  • Some Tips and Ideas how to quieten your nitro car and keep you rolling despite the haters
I did some live testing back to back, see what you think for yourself about the results.
Videos of the test are in the second half,
Test Engine s a Force .21, Vehicle is a HPI Savage.
    Pipes tested are:
    Kyosho Cast Alloy dual chamber
    Ansmann Plastic Dual Chamber
    Team Losi lightweight

Thanks for doing this test, Be fun to see how the Traxxas 2.5 and 3.3 plastic muffler would perform on your test, thanks!

This is a real frontier, not just for RC but dirtbikes fast cars etc most "fun" things.
With an ageing population in the west who are more than "triger happy" to call the authorities this information just needs to be spread to keep nitro alive.
There are personal benifits too, you get to play more, and focus on setup and driving
It is also just common courtesy.

I read somewhere that the intake baffles that on-road cars use help A LOT. ...Because a lot of sound is emitted there as well. I have never heard, in person, a 1/8 on-road with one of those intake baffles.
I did watch some races on TV, where the cars seemed noticeably more quiet. I know those cars use tuned pipes that work differently (high rpm). ...But isn't the EU cracking down on sound more? I mean... those cars seemed to be much quieter.
I wasn't there in person, and I understand how I am hearing a recording.
I watched one on-road video in Finland where the law (wherever the track is located) won't let them run past a certain time in the evening. (Obviously, the track is close to people or a neighborhood or whatever) ... But still.

It seems that if certain weed whackers can be MUCH more quiet, then surely there is a technology which can substantially decrease the dB level. The 2 chamber cast Kyosho does okay. ...But surely there is a way to do better. ...And I understand that some performance will be lost. For the dB lovers, there is the ECRM pipe. Excellent performance! And deafening! I have tinnitus. My ears ring 24 hours a day... every day. Why??? Exposure to dB levels that were too high, too many times. I wish I understood the science behind the 2 stroke pipe better. With all of the experimental pipes and weird internal spring gizmos... you'd think that someone would have figured something out by now! A "Flowmaster" 2 stroke pipe. ...Because it really is not fun to have to drive somewhere just to run your dang vehicle! Even with a performance hit... it would be very beneficial as a stock/factory pipe. Or! A quiet pipe.
Tasty B tested a name brand pipe labeled as a Quiet Pipe, on his channel. That was good to watch.
Do 3 chambered pipes reduce dB levels better?
I mean... we landed a man on the moon a long time ago. And we can't design a better mousetrap for nitro exhaust?
I watched this on my TV, but cannot comment there. So I DID watch the entire video... I really appreciate your work here!

Also I wonder if you put some sound insulation on the underside of the rc car body if that would help a bit Or maybe wrapping the exhaust ? . Im sure they make some kinda adhesive stuff you can try out!

Yes just what I had been thinking too a body shell sprayed with bed liner or similar ruberised paint inside would go a long way to distrupt crankcase sounds. (shoe glue even)
I have some heat wrap here so may try that also
