Tech Nirvana I seriously doubt that fan is giving the engine any more air to grab. Most likely the engine is already pulling more air than that fan is supplying so it's probably restricting more air
Well yes we have all agreed its not having much of an effect, I doubt its restricting the airflow in any way seeing as that fan sounds like its spinning ridiculously quickly, fan blowing air down a pipe while you suck on one end vs sucking air down a pipe with just your lungs which is more restrictive??
From an engineering standpoint, that's actually more like a centrifugal type supercharger as opposed to a turbocharger since it's running off of an electric motor and not exhaust gas heat and pressure. While the compressor housing and fan resembles that found on a turbocharger, the centrifugal type supercharger also uses a turbo style compressor housing and fan as well.
It's amazing he probably got that on Geek website where you could Double your turbo out point by installing a Turbo whistler that you hook on the exhaust. There's where real HP is made.
From walking speed to running speed very cool! And the push button turbo sound maker....far out dude!! I put one of these turbo's on my push mower, it made the turtle run like the rabbit.
That was entertaining while sorting out my old bolts bin at 02 AM. You remind me of me doing crazy stuff when I was younger lol. 6v power wheels for my son? No way! We have a 12v lawn mower battery that isn't doing anything! Later at the ER my wife "explained" to me why I'm not a real engineer....
Might actually be worth subbing the channel so a few years from now when he gets a license and a car you can be entertained by him working on a crappy civic duct taping electric ebay super chargers and slapping GTR badges on it lol.
It wouldn't run lean because it's a carb so the higher pressure that goes through the carb the more fuel it'll add up to a certain degree to compensate, it's how a carb works...
Lewis Hall Yeah. That might be realistic when have the turbo before the carb and sucking through it. Now youre pressurising the carb and pushing the fuel out of the jets instead.... On a engine with a fuelpump you typicaly hade a progressive fuelregulator hocked up witch senses the boost and raise the fuelpressure above the boostpressure.
Michael Rodgers not necesscelery, its not injected, you’d blow the crank seals, and totally snuff out the vacuum diaphragm fuel pump, so it wouldn’t run at all. The inly benefit from boost on that engine is from minimal pressure & high volume, it counters the restriction of the stock filter, other than that, without a reed valve and a custom engineered exhaust port, expansion chamber/pipe, built and function tested, you’re on a snipe hunt with a paper bag, an air horn and a hat with a bright red and blue blinking beacon!
Lewis Hall 100% wrong. Fuel feeds into a walbro carb through a pair of paper thin flapper valves that operate by cycling vacuum surges, boost higher than the .5 Hg vacuum, back to atmosphere is what operates the pump, the carb is a pull from, not a push through, so the fuel pump has to supply a pressure greater than the boost forced into the carb, to function and it had a paradox without enough vacuum from somewhere to equally oppose the boost. Newtons law applies here, and even if it by some divine luck did manage to function normally, the air fuel charge would be blown out the muffler when the piston clears the exhaust and the piston’s downward movement via the bottom side is pressurizing the intake charge in the crankcase that had the mixture drawn into it on the previous cycle, since the pressure above and below the piston are factors in the design of the porting, with the elimination of the reed valve, the power chamber has the intake exhaust and crankcase pressure breather all open at the same time allowing the boost and fuel air charge to depressurize before being compressed by the piston, causing a lean condition across the board, unless proper counter measures are implemented, it will cause fuel starvation and boost pressure to push fuel from the bowls overflow, (CV carb,) or simply blow the diaphragm out (walbro)
Has anyone noticed the impeller blades are going the wrong direction? They are trying to scoop inward, fighting the centrifugal force. Amateur mistake by the Chinese designer. People taking this too seriously tho. Just have fun and make stuff. I used half a 1liter bottle and a plastic flexible gas can spout to make a ram intake scoop for my moped when I was a kid. Looking back now I'm sure it didn't work but it was fun and no RUclips to post it on for some assholes to hate on it.
Steve M .....I think you mistaken....at 38 seconds of the video pause the frame and you can see that the blades are curved the correct way.... However he should have installed a 1-10 lb. pressure gauge on the tube and see if it did create any turbo pressure.
I though carburetor engines couldnt be force air injected. But if they can, try and edf from radio controlled planes, those turbines make from 1 to 13 kg of thrust, now that will actually give you some serious boost
an electric turbo doesn't have the torque to make any pressure, it just gently blows some air in your intake but if it doesn't compress that means it doesn't give you any extra ponies but you already knew that?
this does nothing, it's a fan, if you want power, install a quality big bore kit, learn to tune your carburetor and variator setup to use that power, that 50 could have gotten you a genuine Keihin carb which you can tune properly
@David Snyder this is a pocket bike and he was having fun. It's not a tractor truck or race car. We all know this wouldn't work but you don't have to hate
He would have seen boost as well as shortened life span(piston) if he files his exhaust window a midge at the top. Works great on all us 2 stroke scooters. The limit output by de-tuning our engines via low exhaust port hight.
Don't forget while watching this video , Hector is gonna be running 3 Honda civics with spoon engines and on top of that he just came in Harry's and ordered 3 t66 turbos and a motec system exhaust
Technically it could be considered a relative to a centrifugal super changer, only separated by it having a stand alone drive that is not inducing parasitic loss or dependent on RPM as a classic example. Being that it should theoretically raise atmospheric pressure to some minute degree, it is "in all of it's pathetic attempt" a supercharger. A fan only moves open air.
Tuffenough4u it dosent create boost though boost needs a compresser and its not near enough vokume to do anything becides acually lower performance on the engine
I think it could work better on a reed valve intake controlled 2 stroke engine to inject compressed air or Nos with fuel into the Crankshaft housing. The reason why this should be more effective is that the reed valves close the crankshaft housing. Then the piston go down and pump fuel mixture throuh channels into the cylinder. If you inject compressed air or nos you through a nozzle you can really reach some kind of extra boost pressure.
Great video Dylon! I love seeing that Turbo setup fit so nicely. This bike is gonna be one sweet ride when you are finished! Thank you for the shout out! I really appreciate that. :) Can't wait to be in future videos! #over9k
level1samurai exactly snd that plastic piece of crap aint making any boost my brother just got one the other day were going to stick it on my son 4wheeler just for the look. Donate 50 to some homeless person would be a better way of wasting your money lol

1) the battery leaks if it's not upright. 2) that battery is what? 20 amp? 10 amp? I'm sure that motor draws way more than that, that motor is the size of the battery lol. 3) that motor is probably spinning so slow because of the tiny power source that the suction of the intake is probably spinning the motor faster than it can spin itself. It's probably generating electricity. It's probably charging the battery, at the cost of making the bike slower.
I broke my collar bone on one of those little pocket bikes in Germany. My buddy and I each bought one from a gas station for like 250 euros. We were having a ball riding them around on the back of our Army base at night when it is deserted. Unfortunately I was hauling ass and didn't see some undulations in the pavement from tree roots under the road. The lack of suspension caused be the wreck bad. Destroyed my watch, a sleeve on my hoodie, the leg of one pair of my pants, left laserations on my head and broke my collar bone from the impact on the pavement.
if the bike went faster its because you leaned out the mixture if that blower actually pushed more air through without leaking you have to add more fuel when adding more air to make safe power same with the nos too
Ok, richen up the carb or better yet find a different carb a few mm bigger and get a header then adjust the carb at full throttle with the wheel and blower spinning while it's on a stand. Then you will know if it did anything. You want the spark plug to be slightly tan and you may need to find the next hotter plug to keep it going. They use offset keys to adjust the ignition timing.
You could use that little hole in the intake pipe for a vacuum/pressure gauge. It looks like the impeller is the wrong shape for the casing... its spinning the wrong way
Yes I just added 50 horsepower to my pocket bike with a plastic fan, some electrical tape, a 12v battery, and some zip ties! Whoda thunk that electricity has the power nessicary to not just move air but compress it too! I wonder why car manufacturers haven't caught on to this! We got bested by a kid and some electrical tape. I really like the line of tape you put on the turbo. Really gives it that proper heavy duty seal too.
For anyone still interested in this electric turbo I put the updated link for it in the description.

markfothebeast lol I use a similar turbo as a heat gun

markfothebeast, yes that comment just made my night lmao hillarious! and so, soo true haha
