On a “stuck” rotor heat it with a heat gun being careful not to damage pick up coil. Pry up even and watch where the heat goes.

I have the same engine on my 99 Mariah and am learning about the engine and what to work on. I appreciate you making this.
Question and it may be ignorant: do you have a shift interrupter? Mine does not and I’m wondering if my issues with stalling are because I don’t have one.

I do have an interrupter switch on mine. Mines been stalling more lately while going into neutral from either forward or reverse. Always when I’m trying to dock lol Mechanic at my marina told me to try replacing that first to see if helps the issue. He said 9/10 times it’s the problem.

    Hey thanks for the video
I’m having a problem with my 1998 with a 5.0 thunderbolt five ignition system
I stupidly remove the wires from the coil without seeing which one goes where would it be possible to make a video of the wiring at that coil?

If you look closely the cap is numbered and the intake manifold is numbered

It’s not easy , just time consuming. Good job.

Curious to know what the underside of the distributor cap looked like. I.e. is there a visual way I could know whether it needs to be replaced?

Dist. Cap is labeled stamped into cap. Use mercruiser firing order.

If it hasn't been replaced in a few years just replace it. You will be able to see noticeable discoloration and wear on each electrode and on the tip of the rotor too. That wear increases the gap and affects performance.

Remove that round gasket from the intake carb, USCG don’t recommend that anymore
