It would be great if an average golfer that hits around the clubface could test these irons that are made for the average golfer so we can see how these irons perform. This robot dude test would be good for like .000000001% of golfers with a consistent swing like this. Keep the test videos coming, really enjoy them!
I just purchased Marvrik Max irons, feel is great and first time used in a round missed a hole in one to 4 inches on a 185 yard hole, par 3. Never had that happen before. Easy to make 200 yard fairway shots, very happy with irons..
Bought the Mav Max this year. 63 years old, 7 handicap. Coming from Calloway x22 Tour. I’m getting older and just wanted to find the sweet spot a little easier and l little distance help. First three games had to get over the SGI look with the big top line and offset. Second three games......hmmmmmm....these might work out. After.......oh baby! Once I started hitting them with confidence my distance control was fantastic, proximity to pin on approach shots was 33% better and rarely hit a big offline shot. Handicap is now 5.5. 👍🏻
58 and taking the game back up after a four year layoff. I don’t quite have the distance with my Calloway X22 tours. That’s why I’m checking out RUclips. Last time out I hit a couple of shots with my friends Taylor Made M6’s. Smoked them.
(Following Ben's comment) I consider myself a mid-handicapper (hcp 16-17) and I do appreciate very much this video! It's a rare chance to see so many irons relevant to my play being tested and compared together with concrete data. Thanks to Thomas' consistent swing, which I could only dream of, I think I got quite some good info about those clubs' performance under 'near-ideal' situation. I don't care so much of the extra distance due to stronger loft, but I am very keen to understand spin, peak height, decent angle and carry dispersion with similar swings (meaning similar club head data). This video provides lots of such info! Thanks! I think I understand somehow the difficulty to test with mid-handicappers commented by Thomas. Look at the trajectory and landing of my own shots on Trackman or GC Quad. It's typically a mess! However, we don't need to create a nice and neat trajectory pattern. What I care most is the percentage of good and ok shots I can produce! For example, my 7-iron club speed is just below 80 mph instead of over 90. I can only occasionally deliver an 'ideal' swing. If I hit 7 iron 10 times on course, I might got 3 good shots, 3 ok or mediocre, 3 bad ones plus 1 disastrous. I don't expect any club to fix my shank or duffed shots but I do hope to know which clubs may improve my good shots and raise my percentage of 'OK-shots'. Golf is a percentage game! I have for long time envisioned that someone can make series of 'mid handicapper tests' like below: - An average mid handicapper (15-18?) with more or less balanced skill set, e.g. 7-iron speed
Jian, your comments here, which we appreciate, and many of the others highlight the value of fitting, as every golfer would have different experiences with these irons. Why we like using Thomas to test clubs, be it pure blades or game-improvement irons, is that the quality with which he strikes the ball can help a wider audience possibly identify trends within a sample size that they might not have otherwise had the chance to see. Yes, Thomas wouldn't play a full set of one of these irons, but he provides data comparing launch, spin, distance that would be more consistent than having a higher-handicapper conduct the same test. And our goal is to pass along that objective data, as well as input about look, sound and feel, to a wider audience in hopes that it might help those golfers feel like maybe they can narrow their choices and then go about the process of getting the perfect fit for their game. Anyway, it's not an exact science and there's no perfect solution that will make everyone happy, but we believe that what we're trying to do will provide value to the widest audience, which is why we've chosen this approach. Thanks for checking out the video!
I really enjoyed this mega test. So many good iron brands to choose from makes it difficult to make a choice. However, I was most impressed with both Callaway irons and the Cobra Speed Zone. It is also entertaining and instructive to watch such a consistent and mechanically correct swing.
Thanks Chester - we appreciate the feedback and kind words! Callaway definitely does a great job of delivering playability in this category, and everyone that hits SpeedZone seems to like it. Cobra did a great job of building on the F9 irons, which were also very good.
I hit the mavericks today. Not the max but the regular ones. Not the pros either. It felt so pure was getting around 209 total distance with 7. I think I might get those
Great review, but you needed the Wilson D7 for a complete comparison instead of just the popular. I was shocked when I was told to try the Wilson D7 when comparing before my new purchase. Behold I bought the D7's and never looked back. I'm a eight handicap and Love the consistency and especially the distance.
Looking at the dispersion of the test you really didn't touch on the T300 which going off this test was amazing IMO.You pulled one slightly left. And the stats match anything there & better.
Great stuff! Its so good to have someone that can hit more than two decent shots in a row doing these comparisons and other club testing. My preference would be to see more than 5 shots for each club but understand time constraints there are. One thing that I'm not sure you cover (more club review than comparison) is the number/type of shafts and upgrades are available for respective manufacturers.👍👍👍
Thanks for the feedback - we appreciate your thoughts and we will try to do a better job of discussing some of the different shaft options for the clubs we test.
So much Mavrik love and very little Cobra love until the end as it was actually the best club tested. No one who uses these should be concerned on how well they can draw the ball. If they are, they should buy a different type of club. For these clubs it is about getting the ball up in the air, getting some distance and HITTING THEM STRAIGHT. If you take out the one right outlier with the Cobra, you have one of the top east/west dispersions circles (it goes straight!) and you have pretty much a top 2 distance club without having bottom 2 spin. Perfect! Another thing not even talked about was north/south dispersion which Cobra was best at hands down. Even with a pro hitting here, look how bad the Mavrik was at inconsistent distances. On green approaches, maybe the best and most important factor of all, the Cobra wins here. No one wants to have one shot land short to have their next shot fly the green, always a complaint of the super game improvement iron. Great comparison, just think you left out out some important info. Too much talk about workability for this type of club. People who need these types of clubs have no business worrying about how much they can work the ball. Forgiving clubheads, that give some added distance, fly dead straight and have decent spin should be the focus. Cobra wins in my book. Still a great video.
This is the benchmark method of club testing for the video audience. Great job guys. Latest hybrids next please, drivers, then fairways. Yikes, perhaps a lie down after that. 😀
Man Thomas !! Good thing your Peter is not long enough to keep you at home , or we viewers would not see such a clear and explicit evaluation of these 2020 game improvement irons bud !! I’m in the market for replacing my P790 irons and after watching this review I believe I’ve narrowed down my choices to the T300 and the callaway Mavrik irons. Great job fellas
Thanks guys, I enjoy watching your videos. If possible can you guys spend a few minutes on Jumbo Max grips, I switched to them 3 years ago in the 5/16ths size and I love them, what a feel.
Great effort!. With this “indian”, any arrow will do its job. From what I’ve seen, the most appropriate for me would be the Titleist, although my heart goes to Mizuno and Srixon.
Great video. Good selection of sticks for the everyday golfer. There are a lot to choose from. Just make sure that you an see a fitter and compare numbers on a launch monitor to see the right iron for your swing.
Thanks D, we are getting a lot of feedback regarding the Wilson staff D7’s. We will be sure to include them in some of our future videos. If you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe and you will get an alert when we do provide videos on them!
We couldn't be more excited to share this ultimate testing video with you. Be sure to subscribe so you can get alerts for our next #fitter friday video and don't miss another premier. Master fitter Thomas Campbell will be available to answer your burning questions on comparing today's top game improvement irons. If he is not able to answer your questions during the premier be sure to leave them in the comments section and he will be sure to respond there.
I've just changed from TM PSI TOUR FORGED to Srixon Z585 but due to lockdown havent had the chance to hit them in anger yet. I'd appreciate your thoughts on what difference I may see and feel? Thanks Mark
Hi Mark. You are shifting from a players iron to a players-distance iron, so you should get some more forgiveness and some more distance. One other note is that the lofts of the Srixon Z585 irons are stronger by about three degrees, so that will also add some distance on each club. One thing you will lose is workability. It will be tougher to move the ball left to right or right to left, depending on your preferred shot. Hope this helps!
Great video, thanks I currently play Callaway Rouge pro stiff steel, 10 handicap I have lost distance and sweet spot harder to find lately Which club fits my club profile but would have distance forgiveness help
Go with the Mizuno Hot Metals...Not only clearly the best looking but forgiveness beyond belief...Like the ad says "Nothing feels like a Mizuno" Absolute game changers for me...
Great review good to see so many models keep them coming. What about the Cobra T rail versus the Wilson Launchpad and Cleveland HB Turbo. What difference against the best super game improvement traditional irons?
i remember the last time i got fitted was 2007, and at the time i was considered a long ball hitter, and i hit my 7 iron 162 carry lol and driver 286 average. But after a 2011 injury i quit golf for 6 years. I think it may be time to take golf seriously again !!!! wish me luck
I can relate to this. I completely stopped playing around 1994. My back was in such bad shape I couldn't play nine holes without being in pain for a week afterward. 12 years later I slowly got back in. 4 years ago I got fitted with all new equipment and have learned to use a golf swing that is much more "lower back friendly". Loving the game again! Playing twice a week pain free and having a great time competing with the guys!
Yeah same as my old mp30 set. Would love to see them get out on a hard course and stop their shots onto an elevated green. My 5 flies 190 yards pured. I know the flight and that is what is important not the distance
hopefully you are saying that just out of curiosity and not for the purpose of potentially buying. I'm a beginner, I started playing 1-2 times a week this year with hand-me-downs from the 90's-00's. before that, I had a semester I took a golf class in college back in 2016 and maybe played 1 time a year since then till now. My average right now is about 104 - just under double bogey golfer. I got fitted 2-3 weeks ago and some of these game improvements irons I just couldnt get the right characteristics. I hit just about all of these and the only 2 that really were within an acceptable range were the t300 and jpx921 (which I ended up ordering the latter). ping and maverick max i couldnt get to launch high enough even after hitting everything really well. My fitter is a certified top 100 best club fitter in the country (sticks96 wichita ks) so i know he was providing me with the best setup for each clubs possible.... tldr each player is going to hit them differently and have different results that cant be measured by seeing how others hit them. maybe at best you can get lucky and see if *most* people hit them well you might too if your swing is like those *most* people's
Nice review guys. Thank you for the comparison. I’ve been looking at the Srixon 585s and the Ping 710s. Both performed well for you. I’m thinking of going to graphite as I’m getting older and not as flexible. Thoughts???
i love your channel but given game improvement clubs are for people that don’t hit the sweet spot every time or have perfect swing paths etc what does this tell us?
Hi Joe. Thanks for watching our channel. You may also be interested in our Ultimate Game-Improvement Iron Test Pt 2 video. We had an employee join us who did need some more game improvement that Thomas needs: ruclips.net/video/KPbPE29kqcE/видео.html The challenge we find when completing these tests is consistency. Thomas's swing is very repeatable which provides the best way for us to produce unbiased tests.
Is it just me or does Thomas take every opportunity possible to just stare through your soul? I mean the camera lens probably had to look away at some point!!! 🤣 great video though
How are those smash factors possible? 7-iron should be around 1.35. Is Trackman working properly on a that short indoor space? PGA average is 1.33. They play mostly with traditional lofts but still 1.4 and even almost 1.5 seems impossible.
It's because of the stronger lofts that irons in this category have. Those stronger lofts lead to significantly more ball speed, as in some cases you're going from what would be a traditional 7-iron loft of 34 degrees down to as low as 27 or so. But these 7-irons are all still 37 inches in length, so regardless of whether the loft is 34 degrees or 27 degrees the swing speed will be about the same. And when you calculate smash factor given those dynamics you're going to see some big numbers, especially as solid as Thomas hits it.
Hmm, in the other video you tested Srixon Z585 as a Player Distance iron and in this video it is a game-improvement iron Which category it really belong?
Hi Phoenix, thanks for watching! The Srixon Z585 could be categorized either way -- we wanted to get Srixon into the mix for this test and Z585 was the best fit for both tests.
@@2ndswing Thanks for clearing that up. I used to play Srixon I-701's but changed to Ping G400 and I'm missing that forged feeling every day. That's why I wanted to know. Just maybe the Z585 will find its way to my bag
Thanks Joseph. That's what we're trying to do - provide some objective data to help you guys with the decision-making process. We appreciate you checking out the video!
Hi I’m in market for game improvement irons so thanks for the great video I would like to be able to get a copy of the stats to help me make a smart purchase
Very nice quality of test, but Question: How is this testing the forgiveness of game improvement and super game improvement irons when the guy hitting them is basically flushing almost every shot on the sweet spot of the face? As an example, looking at the Srixon Z85, how the heck is a club with that thin of a top line and that narrow of a sole a game improvement iron? With that narrow of a sole in particular a high handicapper will likely be digging that thing into the ground hitting fat shots constantly if they are really a high handicapper IMO.
I think it would be a much better test, with a decent mid handicapper, with a swing speed of around 80. I know my 7 iron swing speed is about 79mph. Plus you are going to get a few more mishits and can judge how much forgiveness there is.
Hey Steve, We do have some videos coming down the pipeline with mid handicappers so be sure to be subscribed and be on the look out for them. Every golfers game is different and it’s our goal to provide consistency with our tests and comparisons.
Joe, Thomas finished 2019 and has started 2020 with a blended set of Callaway irons. He plays the Apex MBs in his 7-PW and the 2018 X-Forged irons in his 4-6 iron with Project X LZ 6.5 shafts. Thanks.
Q: why the back spin # are so low? A: Hi it's Thomas Campbell. Yes the backspin numbers are lower partially becuase they are game improvement irons. When there is less loft on a club the ball will spin less and the 7irons are stronger than more players category irons. Also I do hit a little draw when the ball curves to the left it will spin less, curve to the right will spin more. Good news is the irons are designed to fly higher so that still provides stopping power on the greens.
Bad news for most mid handicap is that the peak height could be much less (typically 20 meters) at 80 mph club speed for a 7-iron than the height of over 30 meters at 90 mph. Combined with a spin less than 5000 rpm or even 4500 rpm, the stopping power is a problem.
Hai that's great video review, i'm high handicap, im playing golf juat for fun, could you recomend to me from all iron you alread tested, which one the best super game improvment and most forgiving iron? Easy swing thank you
If you want forgiveness above and beyond all else, we have gotten very good feedback from our customers about PING G710, Callaway Mavrik Max, and SpeedZone. When we shot this video, the new Titleist T400 irons weren't available yet for us to test. They will be in stores in late March and will offer a forgiving, lightweight design that help players swing more efficiently. Those will be worth a look as well if you want forgiveness and something easy to swing. XXIO also makes great irons for what you are describing. Thanks.
Love the tests and data ,but why o why do you do this with a very low handicapper , as these irons are designed as game improvement aimed at mid to high handicap golfer ,would like the test repeated with a more real world swing and swing speed along with the inconsistences that would bring then we would have a more realistic comparison ,, ??? btw great content on other vids and you have a new subscriber
Depends on the irons. I played Ping Eye 2+ irons for 20+ years myself. 3 years ago i finally upgraded to a modern iron. Titleist 716 AP1's. If you hit them out of the center, you are correct, not much difference. But hit your Ping's from the toe and you lose 20+ yds. Modern clubs are much more forgiving, by a long shot.
@@johnnypenso9574 That's not what the testing showed. It also depends on who is hitting the club. Go and take a look John Daly's first win. The USPGA at crooked stick, he was using Ping Eye irons and hitting them further than many tour players can today. The differences are marginal. Especially when you consider that the Eye 2 was made 30 years ago, and you pick up a set for £60.
John Daly? GTFOH lol. You have to compare Daly hitting both clubs, not hitting the Pings in his prime vs. another player dumbass. Your 36 degree Ping 7 iron is not going to go as far as a 28 degree 7 iron, that's just plain physics.
I like the reviews but to have a skilled ball striker hit game improvement clubs don’t tell us anything.. get a 18-28 handicap hack some of them..that would prove more info then a great player hitting them.
dexter d , I’ve just ordered them so I haven’t hit them outside yet. During my fitting I hit the mavrik, g410, king cobra, TM 790 and the sim max...actually hit the 790 the best, but I couldn’t justify the difference in cost. The sim max OS were bulky but I didn’t mind that. You could feel the weight low in the club. Feel was really good...surprised how soft they felt. They had one of the highest ball speeds and smash factor. I’m looking forward to playing them!
@@jimthompson6955 Ok Jim; I hit the Sim max os 7 iron and I liked it, I do not hit a 7 iron 175 yds normally so I was pleased about the distance and feel but the height and soft landing put a smile on my face. I'm sure when you walked out of there you were pleased with your choice pick as it usually it is best to go with what you actually like then try an convince yourself because the other one went a little father. These look like nice clubs, sound nice and go high and far but land soft when hit right.Perhaps after youve hit them you can give your brief review-'Dex"
Nice review guys, but ya missed one that is every bit as good as any of those tested at a far better price point. Drum roll please.......Cleveland Launcher HB irons & the new HB Launcher Turbo irons. I've been gaming them for the last couple years, and ya, they are pretty much point and shoot. I'll bet if you factored in price, the Clevelands would win hands down every time .
Appreciate the feedback Freeman and that is a great way to look at it. We try to remain as unbiased as possible and focus on performance so that consumers can factor in pricing at the level that affects them.
Always test with 7 irons. However Game improvement irons do have a stronger loft and the 7iron loft is the equivalent loft of my 6 iron blades. - Thomas
+200 yard 7-iron shots? Okay, if you are going to test GI clubs, you should use a hack player that actually needs GI help. I have trouble relating. You kind of invalidated the test for me. Great effort, though.
Hey TD hawk, thanks for the feed back. We do have some videos planned with high and mid handicappers. Our ultimate goal is consistency in our testing and comparisons which you will find with Thomas.
Hi Willem. Thanks for watching our video. P790's are considered in the players distance iron category. From TaylorMade the SIM is considered more in the game improvement category.
If you like hitting a draw the jpx dose not draw well I bought them and I definitely didn't like them because I like to hit a draw I have 2 years old forged version and they stay on a shelf .
Can these “game improvement “ irons hinder you game improvement since you can consistently hit the ball off center and not pay a real penalty for it ??
That's an interesting perspective! That said, as someone swings more consistently over time, they'll "grow out of" game-improvement irons because they should gradually find the center of the clubface more often, which is why manufacturers release iron models with different levels of forgiveness.
I always wonder why people testing game improvement irons aren’t the ones who need game improvement irons. I have never seen anyone who needed GI irons hit a 7 iron 200 yards. Maybe you should use a weekend hacker who can barely break 80. If said hacker hit those irons 200 yards without changing his/her swing then you can call them game improvement irons.
Hi Joaquin, thanks for the comment! We have Thomas hit the irons just because his swing is so consistent that it offers us the best chance to get feedback through Trackman.
@@2ndswing I can swing consistently bad. LOL. On a serious note, I love what you guys do. My wife does not because I end up spending more but whatever. Keep up the great videos and reviews (or keep making her miserable).
Completely agree with your comment. I have been shopping for GI irons and have been watching tons of these comparisons, and the majority is by someone who doesn't need GI irons. Having said that, great job with the video, very thorough and detailed.
Maybe the ultimate game improvement club should be swung by the player that really needs the "ultimate" help. Seems that would be more helpful than this.
Hi Kevin. We definitely understand that point of view and have a game-improvement test in the works with someone who better fits the profile. We like having Thomas hit the clubs because consistent ball striking allows us to see the performance differences more clearly and efficiently. Thanks for watching!
Nope. I play the Mizunos. 6 iron > Gap is 26-50 degrees in 6 clubs. 55 & 60 degree wedge completes the top end. Add in a putter and driver and you have 4 more clubs for 3w, 5w, 7w, hybrids, driving iron or whatever you prefer.
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Of course, testing with the exact same swing every single shot would be ideal. The closest thing we have is Thomas -- and his swing is pretty close to the same every time!
MidLifeBiker - uneducated reply - A pro or low single handicap player can hit any iron consistent, which would show little difference. That is why it would be a more accurate test to have an mid handicap player do it. Being much less consistent would actually show the help of an game improvement iron.
Keep in mind that these heads are all designed to help fit a golfer into optimal 7iron windows with generally extra forgiveness. Yes the lofts are also stronger but CG is positioned differently to still provide height
Yawn ... I'll tell you what's worse than "jacked-up" lofts. People who whine about them. There are plenty of golfers out there, me included, who need stronger lofts to get more distance and the ball speed they need to launch it higher and stop it on the green. You might not be one of those golfers. And if you're not, why do you care?
A repeatable swing provides us with reliable data to use in a smaller sample size. But you're right, most likely, those models will not be played by lower handicap golfers
No disrespect meant since you two guys seem genuinely nice and well intentioned, but having a guy who swings his irons faster than 90% of the golfing population swings a driver test game improvement irons when he's obviously played blades or player's irons his entire life is about as useful for those of us seeking reasonable comparisons for our skill level and swing speeds as Lebron James showing us how to dunk on a 12 foot rim. You don't have anyone who works at 2nd Swing who would be more representative of the speeds and types of players who would be playing these types of irons?
@Thomas Campbell Rick Shiels' "Mid handicap test" might be the one closest to real average golfers but Rob's swing is still way more consistent than many of us (hcp 15-20) and Rick has not produced any new "Mid handicap test" for long time.
@Ben Hoganblades When it's done as a comparison with similar irons I don't have a problem with a robot hitting them. I actually want a robot hitter. Ofc these irons aren't geared to the tester but that's not the point of the test. The point of the test is to see how each of these irons measure up to each other. There's alot of useful info in this review. Case in point the Mavrik Max. If I know someone who has trouble getting the ball up and need forgiveness that's the perfect iron. What's the point of having all that power in an iron when you can't get the ball up in the air? This is why a robot is good for these tests vs a mid-hi handicapper who isn't as consistent in their shot making abilities. It wouldn't even be a good test for forgiveness because the mid handicapper will hit some shots better than others which may or may not have anything to do with the iron. Without club data we just won't know. That's Useless. I as a viewer am not interested in how well or not well a golfer hits these shots. I am interested in how these irons perform. And the best way to do that is take out the variables in golfer ability. Now if instead there was a female pro with SS more in line with normal middle age golfers that might be ideal. Sophie from golfalot comes to mind, very consistent and swings in the 80s. She is basically the female robot version of Thomas. They're very rare tho and I don't feel anything is lost with a robot hitter like Thomas here. Not to mention it's always a treat watching Thomas hit be it with GI irons or blades.
Mid handicappers don't have a consistent swing or strike pattern and their results are all over the place. I play off 10 but I would never do one of these because I am not consistent enough to produce meaningful results. Now a low handicap 70 year old guy or a strong woman would be a good test in terms of hitting the same distances most of us duffers do
I to really appreciate the in-depth review that you guys did when testing these game improvement irons. However with such a great swing and such a great golfer this guy always has the sweet spot. Most of us average golfers do not hit the sweet spot. I think a better test would be to have him actually try and hit off-center shots. Then we could actually see the game improvement effect of the iron.
@@SanjuroCA I agree with you. I'm not going to learn anything about how these clubs compare to each other watching someone like me hit it all over the face.
Thanks for watching. We have had this feedback from our viewers and we are adding more higher handicap golfers for testing game improvement irons - Thomas
Thank you for watching! We like to have Thomas hit shots for our club tests because he is the closest thing we have to a testing "robot" that the some of the manufacturers use to test their clubs. Plus, on those rare occasions where he does mis-hit the ball, he can provide the insight on forgiveness and we can see right away how the rare miss compares to the other shots that are hit in the center of the face.
2nd Swing Golf that is a silly reply. An average golfer who needs more help than Thomas and has many more misses would be a much better test. Plus Thomas swings faster than 90% of golfers which affects results as well. For us mid handicappers you test serves no purpose
Nice! Mavrik Max looks like a really good iron for 2020. Glad to hear they're working for you!
58 and taking the game back up after a four year layoff. I don’t quite have the distance with my Calloway X22 tours. That’s why I’m checking out RUclips. Last time out I hit a couple of shots with my friends Taylor Made M6’s. Smoked them.
Well that gent hitting the shots certainly doesn’t need game improvement irons
The Clubs you tested back in 2020 are the clubs to buy in 2022/2023 Slightly used. You can save a lot of money and still have High quality Clubs.
Wow, You are a machine, that is some seriously consistent hitting! awesome video.
I have for long time envisioned that someone can make series of 'mid handicapper tests' like below:
- An average mid handicapper (15-18?) with more or less balanced skill set, e.g.
Great Job !! with that Robotic swing- No need to look at clubs!! Maybe We all Need Lessons, more than equipment!!!
I think I might get those
Most consistent swing I have ever seen! Perfect for comparisons
Thanks Shai - that's why we use Thomas to test/compare clubs. He's our robot!

Thanks Paul - we appreciate the support and we'll keep the videos coming!

Great video as always guys. Very informative.
Thank you so much for the informative response. I look forward to them improving my GIR which is key for me. Cheers Mark
Great video, thanks
I currently play Callaway Rouge pro stiff steel, 10 handicap
I have lost distance and sweet spot harder to find lately
Which club fits my club profile but would have distance forgiveness help
Go with the Mizuno Hot Metals...Not only clearly the best looking but forgiveness beyond belief...Like the ad says "Nothing feels like a Mizuno" Absolute game changers for me...

i remember the last time i got fitted was 2007, and at the time i was considered a long ball hitter, and i hit my 7 iron 162 carry lol and driver 286 average. But after a 2011 injury i quit golf for 6 years. I think it may be time to take golf seriously again !!!! wish me luck
Good luck! Love to hear that you're considering picking up the game again. Let us know if we can ever help with anything!
Wholy smokes...the Maverik's "7 iron" loft is the same as my Mizuno MP5 "5 iron".
Yep...standard lofts are changing! That's why it's important to pay attention to them.
Yeah same as my old mp30 set. Would love to see them get out on a hard course and stop their shots onto an elevated green. My 5 flies 190 yards pured. I know the flight and that is what is important not the distance
id like to see a review where a beginner golfer is used to review
We're working on arranging that for this winter!
hopefully you are saying that just out of curiosity and not for the purpose of potentially buying.
@@Dashdedeh I said that because thats my opinion. I care not for your opinion about my opinion.

i love your channel but given game improvement clubs are for people that don’t hit the sweet spot every time or have perfect swing paths etc what does this tell us?
@@2ndswing I understand that but 1.45 smash factor is 3-iron smash factor on the PGA Tour.
is there a ranking here? I didn't watch the end, kind of skipped around, but I feel like I have no idea which one to get after the 10 different sets
Hmm, in the other video you tested Srixon Z585 as a Player Distance iron and in this video it is a game-improvement iron
Which category it really belong?
Hi Phoenix, thanks for watching! The Srixon Z585 could be categorized either way -- we wanted to get Srixon into the mix for this test and Z585 was the best fit for both tests.

Nicely done... Thanks for this. Timely!
Thanks John!!
This guy is so consistent....is he a robot?
Pretty close! Thomas is a pretty darn good professional player
Don't know it you noticed but the cobra had the second highest smash factor.

It has to be asked- Thomas, what iron set do you hit as your gamer?
Joe, Thomas finished 2019 and has started 2020 with a blended set of Callaway irons. He plays the Apex MBs in his 7-PW and the 2018 X-Forged irons in his 4-6 iron with Project X LZ 6.5 shafts. Thanks.
Now I know why I fade my 919'S so much. Thought it was there midsize grip
they said that was because of the lie angle. I got 919 hot metals and was fitted 2 deg. up. no problem drawing mine.
What irons for beginners? I have Wilson Di 11s atm and want some never clubs. Could anyone help?
Q: why the back spin # are so low?
A:
Hi it's Thomas Campbell.
Thanks.
@@2ndswing hemm really tough to make decicion, and how your opinion like yamaha or honma beres IS ?
Love the tests and data ,but why o why do you do this with a very low handicapper , as these irons are designed as game improvement aimed at mid to high handicap golfer ,would like the test repeated with a more real world swing and swing speed along with the inconsistences that would bring then we would have a more realistic comparison ,, ??? btw great content on other vids and you have a new subscriber
OMG. 27 degrees on a 7 iron! My set has stronger lofts than my previous and 27 degrees is my 6 iron. So a few years ago that would be a 5 :-(
John Sadler all in the name of ego...
My Ping Eye 2 irons perform similarly to all these. They are 25 years old. Iron technology hasn't moved much.
Your Ping 5 iron would not go as far as most of these clubs in a 7 iron.
One thing's for sure the average handicap hasn't changed in decades.
John Daly? GTFOH lol. You have to compare Daly hitting both clubs, not hitting the Pings in his prime vs. another player dumbass. Your 36 degree Ping 7 iron is not going to go as far as a 28 degree 7 iron, that's just plain physics.
have you tested any of the Tour Edge 2020 product line
I used to watch Drew on the Vikings Territory videos.

Please add Srixon ZX4 to this test
I like the reviews but to have a skilled ball striker hit game improvement clubs don’t tell us anything.. get a 18-28 handicap hack some of them..that would prove more info then a great player hitting them.
SIM Max - "The average curve was nothing". Sure, on average. But ±14 in consistency, way more dispersion than the others. So not really zero, hey.
Just bought the sim max OS iron combo set with USB recoil shafts. Turned out the best for me...85 swing speed high handicapper.
Nice! How are you liking them so far Jim?
Jim, As I have been thinking about getting the sim max os ,can you give us your unbiased review from a guy your level.
dexter d , I’ve just ordered them so I haven’t hit them outside yet. During my fitting I hit the mavrik, g410, king cobra, TM 790 and the sim max...actually hit the 790 the best, but I couldn’t justify the difference in cost.
So we’re you guys hitting a 7 iron or 6
Always test with 7 irons.
Great effort, though.

totally agree - i got nothing out of this review
Why did you not include P790's?
Hi Willem. Thanks for watching our video. P790's are considered in the players distance iron category. From TaylorMade the SIM is considered more in the game improvement category.
no wilson D7 test??
What about p790's?
If you like hitting a draw the jpx dose not draw well I bought them and I definitely didn't like them because I like to hit a draw I have 2 years old forged version and they stay on a shelf .
All 7 irons?
Can these “game improvement “ irons hinder you game improvement since you can consistently hit the ball off center and not pay a real penalty for it ??
That's an interesting perspective! That said, as someone swings more consistently over time, they'll "grow out of" game-improvement irons because they should gradually find the center of the clubface more often, which is why manufacturers release iron models with different levels of forgiveness.
2nd Swing Golf thank you for the info this gives me more confidence in my next iron set purchase 👍🏻
Calaway mav looks strong
what kind of adidas shoes is thomas wearing?

Damn. My 7 is 32 degrees.
Mine is 33. Though my clubs are 9yr old Clevland forged blades. Its crazy what theynare doing with loft now.
How do I get a swing like that? 😆
I think Thomas would probably say it's from lots and lots of practice!
Anyone that plays jacked up lofts better carry 5 wedges or more to cove gapping and better be awesome at short game

Unless every ball is hit with a machine the numbers mean nothing ,,
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting! Of course, testing with the exact same swing every single shot would be ideal. The closest thing we have is Thomas -- and his swing is pretty close to the same every time!
Prov 1 x no high handicap player should be playing those balls wtf.
Why don’t you have an mid handicap golfer try these? Having a pro hit them helps nobody.
Stay tuned!
Its shows that there isnt much between them and price / availability and looks is a big factor. Some may be brand loyal too.
MidLifeBiker - uneducated reply - A pro or low single handicap player can hit any iron consistent, which would show little difference. That is why it would be a more accurate test to have an mid handicap player do it. Being much less consistent would actually show the help of an game improvement iron.
It should be illegal to mill a 7 into a 5 iron and cut off a inch or two from the handle.
Keep in mind that these heads are all designed to help fit a golfer into optimal 7iron windows with generally extra forgiveness. Yes the lofts are also stronger but CG is positioned differently to still provide height
The lofts actually make me feel ill.
Not sure what there was to learn here given that you're having a scratch golfer hit game improvement irons. Not the most meaningful of tests..
Need an average golfer hitting these for a valid test....
Thanks for watching. We have had this feedback from our viewers and we are adding more higher handicap golfers for testing game improvement irons - Thomas
Why not have someone test these who needs a game improvement iron. Having a pro is useless.
