Murloc version is only good if you don't play as if you have infinite gold, you just can't be selling your scaling cards multiple turns in a row. The only reason to play the Murloc version is to buff the scalers, so you're not weak in the mid game due to having 3-4 dead slots.

The clunker version is def stronger in the lategame. Tho bubblegunner scales fast, so better immediate power.

I love your content dogdog, but Im just sad murloc is only playable when you only got murkey + brand, if you didnt got thoses, its bottom when you play murlocs..

You can also play for scam. Though I agree without those cards, murlocs feel so weak. But the case about Bran is true for a lot of tribes in current meta imo. Without Bran you can't really play apm pirate, can't play dragons, can't go off with elementals, and even the best mech build needs Bran. A lot of games, I find myself desperately looking for Bran, and if I find it early, I usually win and if I don't, I end up dying.
