In Japan and the UK, when a car is dismantled, all removable parts are removed, and when only the body remains, it is put into a press machine. The parts removed from the car are put up for auction on internet auction sites.
A lot of places in USA, when the car comes on the yard it has 30 days. After 30 days whether its picked clean or still fully intact it goes to the crusher. Either way its recycled.
Surprised the city doesn't sell some off, get some money back. Texas I guess is a bit different. I mean the pickups and vans. I could see not selling the Chargers in the cop trim with cop parts. Mind you a base Charger will get you in trouble fast to, I drove one once but didn't get caught(it was a rental)
It probably depends on what the city (or state, county, etc.), decides for surplus vehicles, and my guess is they don’t want the liability, especially if the car was being used for spare parts, if the car was repaired by someone, and something like an accident happened, because of a vehicle failure. I go on a government auction site occasionally, just out of curiosity, and that’s what Philadelphia, Pennsylvania does, they make that one of the conditions, it has to be sold to a dealer with a salvage license, and usually the cars are pretty beat up. Another things is that they’re probably trying to stop police impersonators (people that act like they’re on a police force, but really aren’t.) They are sold at auction, in other cases, and some of the police vehicles end up as taxicabs or as personal transportation. They are also sometimes used in other city departments before they’re auctioned.
I live in Dallas. Even recognize where they made the video (It's out at the Ex-NAS Dallas/Hensley Field, which the City ended up with after the Navy shut it down in the '90s?) Dallas 'does' sell running/driving Surplus Units, these are the 'Deadline' ones. What's odd is that at least up until a few years back the City of Dallas used to pick & strip these things clean of ANY part they could even think of using????
Even in poor shape, those chargers will fetch 6k at government auctions.. If they crushed 200 of them.. Thats a lot of taxpayer money that could have been recouped.
Does Dallas not auction their cars to the public?? Seems like an awful waste! I once bought a good used Sacramento police car, used it for LYFT two years, then sold it to a third buyer.
yep...engines that could be rebuilt, glass, doors, LED lights that a smaller agency would want...all contributes to higher taxes which you and I must pay (unless you still live with your mom)
them ancient 40+ year old crushers would drive us crazy with that low lid height. and they are shorter too. so nice to be able to fit 4 or 5 in at a time. i mean i know too each is their own, but it just feels nice to make and see a giant pack of iron.
ive seen a few videos of young guys buying old police cars for mod projects, and they still find things inside like pepper spray and even a functional handgun....
These are old cars, with v6 engines that aren’t known for being good. They aren’t in demand, or worth much. I don’t know what you’re trying to suggest with tax dollars at work. 🤷♂️
I would be selling those light bars!! 2k plus getting them new and can still make about $500 plus selling used. Or at least sell them to other departments in need, same with the push bars!!
Dallas is a very wasteful city, not surprised at all they are not removing them to at least resell to other agencies like Texas DPS does. They likely only took out their radios and left everything else in the car for light controllers and siren.
@@cvpiDOTnet,the taxpayers should bitch about it ,not even liberal cesspools like NYC, LA & DC waste like this ,the gear is removed, reused, given to other agencies or sold or traded in to the upfitters & all vehicles are sold at auction or stripped & the parts used to maintain the current fleet
I live in dallas And this doesn't surprise me one bit. I've seen so many of these. That shouldn't even be on the road and they sound like complete crap.
I'm very sure part of the thing was he had to crush it all and very limited parting out on ex police cars. They don;t want any of you having that stuff...
Light bars, Light Bars!!! How could you. Dudes I bet part of the agreement to sruch these was to not resell the police stuff they govt doesnt want you to have... Think about it...
Looks like the city of Dallas is very wasteful of tax payers dollars, most municipalities both strip off all the equipment, pushbars & lightbars& either reuse it or sell it to upfitters & sell off all the vehicles... off at auctions, remember folks ,that's your tax dollars going down the drain 💵💵💵, those lightbars are several thousand new & hundreds used ,i use to export those by the pallets used or resell them to picture cars for the film industry, not even wasteful cesspools like NYC, Philadelphia & Washington DC do this ,only true scrap only ,crime vehicles (bio hazard)& untraceable stolen go in the crusher as well as scooters, motorcycles & ATV's with no VIN #
This makes me mad. Very good and expensive Police-Stuff for collectors or other agency's are getting destroyed here. I mean its tax money right? why they don't recycle as many parts they can?
Sometimes used police cars are put up for sale. I've never been able to understand why anybody would buy one, because police cars get the worst slamming around of any cars driven on public roads.

That's how it should be
I agree to. Honestly they can give me those Chargers I'll turn em into hellcats

Dang!! Those lights on top the vehicles are worth some money . I would’ve sold it on eBay . Easy $2k
Not worth the hassle if you're in business.
Why Doesnt the City Take those Lightbars Off And Sell Them On GOV DEALS Auction Like Other Citys ?

Um yea.......... I live in NC. All law enforcement vehicles including the NCSHP are sold in Surplus sales!! Even if they're totaled!
I always assumed Texas was more fiscally responsible than that. There’s no good explanation for that.
Even in poor shape, those chargers will fetch 6k at government auctions.. If they crushed 200 of them.. Thats a lot of taxpayer money that could have been recouped.
That light bar is worth a few hundred bucks. Crazy!
Quite a few lights left on
yeah after sitting online for days or weeks... made more money scrapping it all.
Those lightbars are worth $$$

They do the same thing in Canada with retired RCMP surplus. Doesn't matter what it is, If the RCMP was using it they destroyed it once it's retired.
Is there a known reason why?
A lot of good parts.

You seem to offset the cars when crushing them too, which seems like it would make it easier to fit more in right?
I wonder If the employees stripped the expensive equipment from these squad cars.
ive seen a few videos of young guys buying old police cars for mod projects, and they still find things inside like pepper spray and even a functional handgun....
Motor still in it? That’s your tax dollars at work!
Is that a GMC Cyclone in your pic?
A copy, 350 v8 ford 9”

Why were these junked? I have never seen a marked police car getting crushed like that.
That is so cool love it got some donuts 🍩🍩🍩🍩 got cops 🚗
Surprised thete crushing with light bars

Them bar lights you could of sold them 2 0f 300 made more money bro
Doubtful. They are old, probably been reused at least once already.
Seems like a waste of good parts

You know how you can’t kill endangered species. They need to have laws like that for certain cars.
Its just 2 Dodges, nothing of value was lost
You should get up your job mate
What happened to the police cars they don't work anymore

They're just fine. Taxi companies and liveries buy them up and get quite a few years out of them....
But probably best serviced and maintained cars
Some are bought by private security companies or campus police
At least they weren't Chevy Impalas. Because they're my fav.
They are great with the front bench seats. Too bad the last one did not have it offered.
Or the chevy caprice
