That's me in the video. My first 1k or so hours were on a trashy laptop and I never really watched anyone play the game so didnt find out about different aspect ratios until I felt like i was too comfortable with my settings. In the 10 years I have been playing more, I have only changed my crosshair once and never my sens. I did try out stretched for a while doing research for the video, but ended up switching back. Can't teach an old dog new tricks haha
To clarify, use the native vertical resolution for whatever your monitor is in 4:3 and then stretch it... not saying you should but it's a better experience unless you truly have a potato card and need a lower resolution.
I've been using this for about a year since playing on 1920x1080 for 11 years. I hit my peak ever using 1440x1080 4:3 stretched lol. Easily best change I could've ever done
The main reason is that the models are twice as wide. It's easier to see when you're looking straight ahead while not being distracted by information you don't need in high-pressure situations - the situations that count in most cases. Microcorrections are thus much easier in a stretched resolution. A higher pov is of course also a benefit, but in a good team you don't need to look at 3 angles at a time, as they should be covered by your teammate anyway. 16:9 is unplayably compressed and 16:10 is OK.
Aggressive entry fraggers should try to avoid 4:3 unless you're just a god like simple, but he also uses a fairly high sens. IMO it makes the most sense for awpers but at the end of the day it really doesn't matter. No new or low rank players should be messing with this. Basically if you have to ask why it might be helpful, you don't need it.
It's worth mentioning, that in cs 1.6 your crosshair looked smaller in lower resolutions. That was the reason i mainly played with low resolution in 1.6.
16:9 and 16:10 coexisted and competed in a pretty odd manner, both were available in the monitor space but 16:9 pretty quickly took over and became dominant in both panels and software support.
I disagree that black bars are downsides only, like u mentioned in the video u get more fps, u get less distraction and all the info is more compact closer in your Peripheral vision, it also makes knowing where the midle of your screen is easier which helps with noscopes and quickscopes, and because its not a stretched resolution u get the upside of people not moving very fast on your screen like it does on stretched. I always liked 16-10 stretched and 4:3 black bars most because 16-10 stretch people are slightly wider, but they do move slightly faster and u miss a littlebit of info, 4:3 black bars is less distractions, more info in peripheral vison. so i combined the 2 by using zowie benq monitor settings, I use 4:3 black bars with 100% scale on the benq monitor settings, and then i use stretched 1260x1080 resolution, which because of the 4:3 black bars i set on my monitor is the equavalant stretch of 16-10. best res i have tried so far. biggest downside with it is that i lose even more information then on 4;3 which would be 1440x1080, but thats also a upside with Cs2 since its so poorly optimized every little extra performance boost is welcome.
why black bars over native: performance. In non-NASA PCs it may give better fps and lower input latency, while still having the same slow moving models as native.
great video. this was literally what i was researching as well the past few days for 1.6 with the same conclusions. i ended up with 16:10 stretched, until i decided to switch to native. now i'm going to stick with it and get used to it. the game just looks better and chrisp.
it's literally just perspective, the only real difference of the FOV difference, 16:9 has higher FOV makes you better at close quarters, 4:3 has lower FOV makes you better at longer range fights. Now, because this is not CoD and we can't just use iron-sights to lower the FOV, we just need to keep it lower in some other way.
Get an ultrawide and play on 16:9 stretched. Genuinely the best gameplay experience I've had in any FPS. All the 'benefits' of a stretched res with none of the typical drawbacks.
I own an ultrawide monitor and still have to put it on the floor and use my 16:9 to play CS. It just feels impossible to fully "lock in" with such a massive screen. But if it works for some people, there's nothing wrong with it I suppose

4:3 felt good in CSGO but in CS2 it felt too blurry. 16:10 looks and feels much better as it's slower feeling than 4:3 but not as painfully slow as 16:9.
Blackbars is dumb. The high IQ move here is to play 1440x1080. Same as 1280x960, but native resolution in the vertical pixels. Or play 16:9, whatever floats your boat.
The same way enemy models move faster in stretched resolution, the sensitivity moves faster as well. Kind of like mouse acceleration, so it feels super weird to switch from stretched to native or black bars cause it makes your sens feel lower.
Ok but you do understand that it doesn’t actually change the sens at all, right? I get what you’re saying but that’s a bad way to describe the feeling. If you ran identical scenarios with a mouse cam in 16:9, 16:10, and 4:3, your hand and mouse would move exactly the same for each aspect ratio
