I have very interesting interpretation of Ganesha story: As you know Ganesha is depicted with elephant head and a small mouse down the picture. Elephants are known for their long lasting memory and intelligence. Mice - for their short term thinking. The mouse and the elephant are related animals - one originates from the other; they are cousins. Like dolphins and cows. There are even some species of mice with long trunks. So the elephant head in Ganesha story symbolically represent the Higher consciousness, and the mouse - the normal human consciousness. In order to achieve Enlightenment the yogi needs to remove his/her human head (decapitated by Shiva); he/she needs to leave the narrowed mindset and he/she needs to acquire new broader awareness. Namely - the divine awareness.

Yes true Hinduism is always about detachment from everything.......detachment from material word, detachment from anything which is cmng in ur way to attain pure consciousness.

As an agnostic it can be explained in other words. We become attached to the ideas we have of God not knowing whether or not these ideas are truth. How easily do people anger if they feel their beliefs are disrespected? Yet they're just beliefs. The nature of belief is not knowing. Religion is a great source of conflict, in reality who is it that knows God of all the religions involved in this controversy? Who can convince us to the point of knowing it for ourselves? What he says about Ganesha makes total sense.

Thanks for the teaching. Stop killing animals and create harmony to earth, it is so simple and logical. I started practicing Ganapati Hrdaya after Tibetan Buddhist tradition, because he appears at a prominent place in our lineage protectors-supplication-prayers. The Ganapati Hrdaya was taught by Buddha on two occasions and transferred to Tibet by Atisa Dipamkara in 10th century. Your teaching is very close in essence to what I heard, "Do not attach to the goddess or it will shackle you" (to dualistic experience). I stopped eating animal meat regularly a while ago, even though it could happen out of circumstances, I try to avoid it and now Ganesha has entered into my daily practice and life - helping to avoid obstacles, that's fantastic.

Thank you very much for bringing out the real essence and teachings of Ganesha. As you mentioned, the popular story, which is told for many people, overlooks the enlightenment of Shiva and contains many contradictory elements. The version you are teaching here feels truthful and, especially, filled with wisdom and enlightenment. Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful version of the story. As society we have several lessons to learn from animals.

Hello sir, thank you for your explanation. However, two things in your story contrast each other. You said that 1: Ganesha taught us to not be attached to this physical/material world, and 2: Ganesha taught us to be kind to animals to make our world better. Is loving animals and caring about nature not a form of being atrached to this world? I would love to hear an answer. All the best.

There is no word 'HINDU'' in the arsha bharatha samskaram. It is over 6000 Years and is sure to have been customized a lot. People can discuss and debate about the various knowledge in it freely.
Some invaders called the natives to the east of river SINDHU as 'hindus' because they could not pronounce the 'S'. It is neither a Religion nor an 'ism'. All it says is that I, U and GOD are not THREE but ONE. When we wake up it is 'I' in everyone which is the same, universal. However within moments the 'I' transforms to 'Iam'/'Mine'...which is the indifference boosting factor with his fellow beings. That is...when a child is born , he is only that 'I' (Hindu) , his society programs his mind with Beliefs. Beliefs trigger his Thoughts , his Thoughts > Generate his Words > words generate Actions> Actions determine his Character and his Character, his Destiny. If a child is taught some 'GOOD' about his religion and a guaranteed lot of 'BAD' about others, this HATRED gets stored in his Sub-Conscious mind which is powerful STOREHOUSE, it may be impossible to change his Belief completely and when he grows up, he may take up graduation in Terrorism and such things. Energy existed, it has no start/end points (Einstein said There is no Evolution or End, everything is a State of Being. Energies will keep on changing forms over time. Man is a product of a combination of energies. His BODY is the DRESS of his soul. The soul will change the DRESS and 'Wear another One' (which we call Death). It is Man who created GOD and not Vice Versa. 'Hinduism' concludes that GOD as a third party does not exist to Protect or to Punish people. That god is internal, within YOU, search for him and u will lead a blissful life. (not that there came a Book out a light from sky with mandatory instructions for people to follow or else to face punishment, to go around increase their membership by Conversion, 'Manufacturing 'children etc and then take control of Country/ies, chase away the natives there and make to it their respective Religious State etc. etc). It says the world is one family.'Lokha samastha Sukhino Bhavanthu'. Nothing is yours, you are here temporarily , sooner or later u have to go without carrying even an underwear with you. All u may carry is the invisible, Final Settlement of u r Good and Bad Actions (KARMA). Based on your karma, your Conscious Energy (The SOUL) that leaves u r body will decide u r role in u r next birth. He who has lived the life of a Vandal may get 'promoted' as a Cemetery Keeper in a deep forest and he who has done Good may get promoted to play a better role in his next birth. (This is my personal view and iam not a genius, not the one running after GOD all the time.I strive to do good without expecting its returns ( "karmanye vadhi Karaste Maphaleshu KadaChana") wanting GOD to come after me.Cheers!

I think it means you are doing it correctly, I often feel slightly scared as well when I sufficiently become more aware of the world. That feeling of being lost, I think I know what you mean. Sometimes I get so detached it feels like I don't belong where I am, or anywhere for that matter. Personally, I find that joy is a distraction from my awareness of the world just as any emotion is. Joy may be the best emotion you can have, better than the others, but it is still a distraction.

There is another belief in Maharashtra that Ganapati 's when he goes away from his bhakta' s house he carries with him all the problems and obstacles that the house holder had. And all these problems and obstacles are immersed in the ocean ie visarjan.
And that's why he is also known as Vigneshwara. He is not put up in the house permanently like other gods because he is a brahmachari. So he leaves after a day or a couple weeks and returns back next year. That's why people cry ganapati bappa morya, pudcha varshi laukar yaaa; when he is taken for immersion. People feel sad and they cry when Ganapati leaves the house where the family members and all the neighbours had assembled daily to sing bhajans that glorifies him.
