The career and life of Frankie Muniz is a pretty good counterpoint to the "never retire in your 20s" argument. Muniz rose to fame from Malcolm in the Middle and quit full-time acting in his early twenties. He now spends his life racing, being in a band, and the occasional movie cameo. You can retire at any age, you just need to have both the wealth/income to sustain your preferred lifestyle and to have a lifestyle that gives you meaning.
My father retired from the military at 25 due to breaking his back. It usually turns out this way if you aren’t family oriented in my experience. Focusing on raising a fam and continuing to work on things kept him busy
Such a weird conservative take Clearly, the point of my comment went over a lot of yawls heads because when I was pointing out was saying that it only works if it’s family oriented, which is the weird conservative take. A lot of you’ll need to grow up because you can’t take on a disagreement.
You can tell how poorly her self image was fr considering she kept calling everyone around her ugly, not only is it just her projecting her feelings of being ugly onto others, but clearly she thinks that being ugly is the absolute worst thing and makes your opinions irrelevant, and makes it so you cant check someone into a hotel. For her, being ugly is the worst possible thing someone can be and she wants to convince herself she is not that. 😢
She has bipolar disorder and IIRC the period of calling everyone ugly and declaring what cosmetic surgery procedures she wanted was during a manic episode. Her perception of herself and others was skewed due to the mood episode
I’m a woman who went through and passed that phase myself, and I can 100% vouch for the fact that it’s projected insecurity, speaking from my own experience of doing it myself. It’s sad
Ive been called ugly many times and treated horrible just for not being pretty, then i had plastic surgery and im traditionally attractive now and let me tell you, the world is a different place... People are really nice, ever door opens, men give me attention, people want to know me and what i have to say, i get health care... Before that i never had that. So, being ugly is actually maybe the worst, but most people are not ugly and they dont realise it has such an impact
The double standards from all you sexists is sickening! Man does drugs and calls a woman ugly--total jerk! Woman does drugs and calls a woman ugly--poor thing has mental health issues and needs rehab! Best wishes! 🤬💀
I have a friend that retired at 24 and he's 34 now and doing completely fine. He has hobbies, reads a lot, goes out with friends and his girlfriend. This isn't about retiring early, this is about drug abuse.
I think it's more about having no purpose in life. She was fine and sober each time she got herself a purpose ie fashion school and her boyfriend... but once those are gone, she relapsed. She should find a purpose in life that makes her happy, and keeps her busy everyday
Yeah I know someone who retired at 29 and he was fine, but after calling friends to hang out and getting snubbed because they were working and he was eating cereal in his underwear he decided to open a couple businesses. It's about keeping busy, whether that means working or hobbies
I think early retirement is fine. Just….you know, don’t live beyond your means, do SOMETHING with your time, stay away from substance abuse, and be careful who you let in your life.
Yeah I work for a local government agency. Our saying is: people need hobbies. And we mean that shit because even 70yo's who are retired need them. Otherwise they act out (drinking all day every day/bitching about anything and everything)
Yup… retirement is a death sentence for some people. My boss retired and moved to Florida. 3 weeks later he returned and simply said. If I retire I’ll drink myself to death, but if I work myself to death I’ll see my grandkids grow up.
It's not really tragic considering she's such a shallow, immature, nut job. She's a grown woman tweeting random women calling them ugly, then whenever someone speaks the truth about her, she's says their opinion doesn't matter cus they're ugly. Someone like that doesn't deserve adoring fans and recognition.
I watched the Amanda Show on Nickelodeon as a kid and watched pretty much all of her movies...I was and still am so sad about what has happened to her and I keep trying to stay hopeful that each stint in rehab/getting psychiatric care will help her get out of this awful spiral she's gotten herself into. Only time will tell, but I really really hope she gets the help she so sorely needs and continues to get it so she can stay healthy and find happiness.
It's entirely possible. I am around the same age as her and have had similar addiction and mental health problems. I was an absolute train-wreck in my 20s and even until my early 30s. I only got sober around 3 and a half years ago. I now have a great life, am married and have a fulfilling career, but most of the people I knew who went down my path (I.V. drug use) are either dead or are still fucked. The challenge she faces though is being in the public eye, which I believe makes it 1000X more difficult than people like me.
@@manne8575 Generally, young actors feel pressured to maintain that same level of success for the rest of their life and that the public will forever define them by their fame and the character they played
It's the downfall of a pig who can't resist temptation. But honestly she's obviously mentally ill. People get on adderall and then they get addicted to meth and then they stay up for 6 days at a time and of course their brain goes completely south without sleep, and it just spirals downward from there.
I retired in my late 20's from the military after an injury... it's not a living hell at all. Amanda Bynes turned her potential heaven into her own real life hell. If you don't make dumb assed decisions you can live a pretty nice life just taking it all in. Being caught up in a career often times numbs a person's ability to connect with what's really going on... which is, almost everything we do is based on an imagined purpose created to cope with the cold reality that, beyond keeping the species going we really have no other purpose. Life doesn't have any goals, it only has purpose... just existing is good enough, a lot of people - most people - forget or never understand this about life and end up wasting their time on a job they took too seriously. Time you will never, ever get back for any amount of money or prestige.
Everyone saying it’s not about the retirement. People don’t realize how important consistent work is for your health. It’s why I think it’s better to be born poor than born rich. Less motivated to work hard since you already have access to the things you need/want.
Which is why I'm happy for former child actors who turned out OK like Mara Wilson and Lisa Foiles. They're exceptions that unfortunately prove the norm.
Exactly, they have never been children, working from the early age, usually being pushed by their parents and the managers. By 24 they have worked 14+ years.
I know Justin bieber is not an actor but he had a similar upbringing but even thought how bad people made him look, he still didnt do as bad as Amanda.
It's honestly really sad to see such a misguided girl end up like this... she just needed help :( Edit: I mean that everyone has a starting point and I feel bad for anyone who reaches the point where they deny all the help in the world
People tried to help her, but she responded to everything with either attacks or total denial. You can't help people who actively refuse it, at least not without having her sectioned which to be honest was probably the only thing that would work at that point.
Truly one of the saddest examples of a child star hitting rock bottom. She was so talented and could have gone on to be one of the greatest performers of our time. It’s so tragic what mental health problems and substance abuse can do to a person so quickly. If she continues the way she’s going I wouldn’t be surprised if she dies before the age of 40.
I really do hope she can get sober and stay clean. I've never met her of course, but my heart goes out for the pain and misery she must be going through, not to mention how terribly she has embarrassed herself on a national stage. I just hope she can get well.
Literally if you just occupy yourself with a hobby or something to work on whilst retired, you can avoid these kinds of issues. She went on the drugs leading to her awful mental state because she was bored if you boil it down
Can't help but notice her go-to is to say she doesn't do things that she clearly does. She doesn't seem to realize that people can see more than just what she says. This is pretty common with narcissists, since they can't imagine that they're not outhinking everybody.
As a 29 year old who watched early 2000's Nickelodeon religiously through my childhood its absolutely heart-breaking to see what's happened to Amanda. Hope she can get better.
Being under stimulated and having a lack of purpose is unfortunately how a lot of problems start. Being directionless, you stop caring and just want to numb out. Hoping she finds peace some day.
I've been working my whole life. She's literally just 24. That doesn't equate to a whole life. This is what happens when you have no family to guide you. Just a young girl that has too much money at a young age and no purpose in life other than being nothing.
Marijuana triggered schizophrenia for her. It's happening to a lot of young people now, especially since the weed and vapes are so much stronger than they used to be. This happened to my cousin. He smoked a ton of weed (smoking all day, every day) when he was 15-18, and then he went crazy. The doctors surmised that his intense weed use at such a young age triggered psychosis. He's doing better, but he's on a bunch of meds that can make him seem out of it. Go easy on the weed, kids. You never know.
Its not the weed. The problem is sourcing it. It's likely your cousin and Amanda had smoked some laced marijuana along the way. Weed laced with something like PCP or a strong substance could absolutely induce psychosis. I'm not gonna say that weed is harmless and that it isn't habit forming. It is. In lots of people, it lowers drive or desire to be more. Makes you lazy. Also anything set on fire and inhaled is not good for the lungs. Its a waste of money. I smoked for 15 years, recently quit but there were times where I easily spent something like 500 a month smoking. I always had very reliable connections, and was only ever duped into smoking something laced when I was 13. Hit a bowl laced with cocaine. Again, i think laced weed is to blame for psychosis.
I’ve smoked all day everyday since I was 14 and have still been able to hold down a normal 9-5 and smoke on my breaks and I mean I can smokeee but it really does depend on the person. Im now 26 still smoking daily and still able to go about my normal life you’d honestly never know I smoked but my neighbour on the other hand is a 34 year old man who smoked from a young age and he ended up with psychosis because of it and has now been sectioned so again it really does depended on the person. I still think alcohol is worse.
Yeah, the exact same thing happened to my mate. He was a chronic weed smoker throughout his entire teens then lost the plot when he was around 17/18. I always remember he would tell me crazy things like how he got in a fight with Mike Tyson and stuff like that. He even got sectioned at one point.
This girl was put through hell as a child behind the scenes at Nickelodeon - evil things. She never had a chance by the time she got to her current age. It makes me so sad to see her now.
I wish her the best man, to finally overcome what has been burdening her. It matters not how many times you go through hell, as long as you find your way out. Stay Strong Amanda!
This is a terrible take. Given the full story, the early retirement was just one of many effects of being an addict. It wasn't the cause of all the problems.
I absolutely love Amanda Bynes; She is so hilarious and sweet. I still remember saying to a friend that I loved Amanda Bynes, and how unproblematic she had been. That's when they told me to look her up. I was crushed. I was so excited when I found out she'd graduated fasion school. I thought she was on her way back. I'm yet again crushed by this video. I want peace for her more than myself at this point. Exploited potential.
video essays like this are so cringe and have zero compassion for the topic, the title is so obnoxious and low tier. dont quit being famous in your 20s or you will find your way into one of these videos, yeeeeesh.
Crazy to think that stories like this really show that as a child actor, life can be extremely difficult if you do not have the right support or people around you. Kind of gives me Shia LeBeouf vibes but at least he is doing well in some way.
No omg he was at my friends place of work in Edinburgh last month and he was in a state. He was running around extremely drunk and high and verbally assaulting people. He was dry humping the stage and then got kicked out and broke into a fist fight with someone in the street. He’s doing terribly and keeps getting fired 😭😭😭
I personally couldn't picture myself retiring and less as such early age. I think you should always have a vocation in your life (not necessarily a wage job or something like that but even that in some cases work), something that give you some kind of motion, purpose and conflict. Give up that by surrebder to your own vices and desires is only going to wreck your life. A life of idleness and hedonism only will end up destroying your body and mind.
@wilhelmorangenbaum2 it's not about having a lot of money. it's about working like a machine for ur entire life just for money that people earn in a day. I'd much rather earn 5 million in 4 years then retire and blow it throughout my life than work my entire life then die in a broken, dusty death bed
@@ashenzenden If you had seriously read my comment you would have seen the "not necessarily a wage job but even that in some cases work". Earning money or "working like a machine" was never the point of my comment, I was talking about vocation and conflict in life.
@wilhelmorangenbaum2 right my bad. I actually didn't even read ur comment properly and started yapping. Now that I've read it I'll admit I mostly agree with what ur saying.
It's mindblowing how she didn't serve a single prison time. She was caught high while driving, assaulted a security guard, lit a person's driveway on fire and many more illegal stuff and not a single arrest. A guy would get 10 years minimum for even touching a girl inappropriately and an average person would spend years in jail by doing any of those crimes. HOW IS THIS JUNKY NOT IN JAIL?
Because white women in the west this day and age are the most privledged group of people in the history of man kind. Imagine an african american women did what she did lol, or a latina?
My grandpa retired about half a decade ago, and soon after decided to join a group of volunteer firefighters/medical officers/radio operators. He told me that you need to have something to do once you retire, otherwise you become a boring, old man
I'm getting a hint of mental child abuse. She kept calling people "ugly" when they clearly weren't letting me think she was maybe always told she was ugly and was continuing that cycle.
It's really important to feel like you're doing something of value with your life. I feel like she would find value in separating herself from the environment she's in and spending time doing some soul searching, in a place that nourishes her soul. She's clearly miserable, with no other way to cope or occupy her time. She's a charismatic young woman, with incredible talent. Maybe the limelight just isn't a healthy environment for her. I'm sure there's ways she could make great contributions to something incredible, and also avoid scrutiny on a grand scale which she cannot cope well with. If she had a core group of people that cared about her well-being, I bet she'd be golden.
I think you are miss characterising Amanda Bynes “retiring” - she is struggling with mental health issues and (maybe still is) struggling with substance abuse issues. People say things they might regret later, or be out of character, even more so when you are under the stress of a break down.
Drugs can amplify an underlying mental illness, especially things like ptsd. It's not like the movies where you see some 40-50 year old dude whose mellow and still taking drugs and has a full time career. Reality is it will cost you everything.
Poor woman, you don't get that way on your own. She needs family, friends and sobriety. Unfortunately number three on the aforementioned list needs to come first; and that's the hardest part as (contrary to popular belief) it's a solo effort.
I was a huge fan of amanda. I watched so many movies with her in them, And I absolutely love her an her acting. I tried finding out where she was now, and more movies with her in it. When I saw the way she looked now and everything that had happened, my heart absolutely broke.
It's incredibly difficult to witness the undeniable demise of an incredibly successful, beautiful, kind, witty young lady and how horrifyingly she was treated by the entirety of the media, scoffers & so called friends and family, and I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that there was something far, far more sinister at play that was the reason for such a catastrophic spiral of unnatural proportions in this young ladys life, and all played out on the world stage for the stupified masses to revel in her demise. It was one of the most unpleasant events to see unfold. I wish her every success & hope she finds the peace she so richly deserves.
I’ve retired in my 40’s. People ask me if I’m going to “do anything.”? I reply that the only reason people work is money and that working even one second longer for someone else is just unacceptable. It pisses people off because a young retired person is a living reminder that work is really something none of us want to do.
Regardless of drugs and mental illness, 6 million is not that much money to retire on at 24 years old….Is it doable?…Yeah, if you live on a “normal person” budget of $80k-$85k a year….She was clearly spending way more than that though 🙄
You're thinking of just spending $6 million. If you have that kind of money you'd be advised to invest it and make it work for you; property, high interest bank accounts etc. Howrver, it will last an addict about four months.
This breaks my heart everytime I'm revisited with the fact that this was what went down. I remember when I was a child and I used to watch 'The Amanda Show', always found her remarkable in more areas than one. I remember watching Hairspray at the Cinema and wowed because of how beautiful she was.Good acting ability, charm, very beautiful. Infact, I used to think she was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen then boom a massive decline.. She doesn't even seem like the same person remotely anymore, her face changed, her expression changed, her personality seems different (not that I knew her) and even her voice has changed.
My thoughts of retire early is to spend more or almost time on hobbies and adventures, personal plans so you even have to work harder and there's less time for vices. Cause you don't have to worry about money no more
It's not this. Imagine if you went through sexual abuse and trauma your whole childhood and had no one who cared enough to stop you from trying to escape all the pain? Of course she turned down the path she did. Anyone who lived through hell and back is going to find ways to cope. Its time we get together and #SaveAmanda We saved Brit.. now it's Amanda's turn
@Sillimant_ Does that change anything? No. Because not everyone who goes through trauma also turns down that path. That's the thing about humans, can't really lump them all together.
I completely agree with this video. It's important to enjoy your youth and live in the moment, but retiring in your 20s is not the answer. Amanda Bynes is a prime example of someone who retired too early and it didn't end well. Let's learn from her mistakes and focus on building a stable future instead.
Top comment is literally called her rude and entitled behavior and after I scroll a few comments found yours call her down to earth, which one is the truth 😂😂😂😂
We all had people like Amanda in our lives. Denying the truth, always telling that they are right, even if they are not, supporting only their truth as the only truth. But her condition is to the extreme. My advice is get those people out of your lives, no matter how much love or care you give them, it will never be enough for them and it will turn into a toxic relationship.
You hit the nail on the head. You know who actually is most vulnerable to this? Not the druggies and the addicts ... but the ones with gender dysphoria.
I know one. Not as extreme of course, and happens to be a dude. Never wrong in his mind, even if presented with facts or when people confront him about his obviously childish behaviour. Hopping IT industry jobs because everyone else is an idiot, loser and wrong about everything. Also, a functioning alcoholic. You can't change a person like this, and probably should not get too close. This is kind of sad for them personally as they're very adept at burning people and bridges, and many instinctively avoid their company. Maybe they'll figure it out one day, maybe they don't. As a bar acquaintance... entertaining to listen to for a while, but tends to get grating eventually.
Going to second what Smith said about idle hands. It wasn't her being retired, it was her having absolutely nothing to do and deciding to party all her money away. Honestly the thought of actually "retiring" and sitting around doing nothing sounds like hell to me. I don't enjoy my current job but at least its giving me something to do in life.

early retirement wasn’t the problem. it’s early drug usage at the age of 16 her frontal cortex isn’t fully developed which greatly affects the decision making. From there, it all falls onto personality. You can tell Amanda was always proud of herself for not living a glamorous life. The moment she started doing drugs it ruined her self-esteem. You can see this in how she talked about herself, how she lashed out to those who were successful, and how she coped with more drugs. She probably could’ve started drugs after age 25 and have turned out fine - or better yet just don’t abuse any drugs.
A not fully developed frontal cortex does not mean one can’t make good decisions. Saying that one shouldn’t take drugs until the age of 25 is way too extreme in my opinion. I have been taking Adderall (prescribed) since the age of 6, I’ve been fine.
While I agree don’t retire too early, Amanda Bynes’ downfall wasn’t to do as much with her retirement as much as it did with severe mental illness and drug use, I’m pretty sure. I feel bad for her.

For her, being ugly is the worst possible thing someone can be and she wants to convince herself she is not that. 😢
100% agree

How tf did he retire at 24?
Was he the one selling drugs in order to retire at 24? Cause like I would like to know this amazing secret

Amanda Bynes is such a tragic story. She was one of my favorite actors, and it hurts seeing her fall so far

Buddy if I'm minted to the point I can support my family for the rest of my life I will retire right then and there
This is true but in her case the problem seems to be she had too much time on her hands which led to a downward spiral.
Doubt it. She’s one of those people who are their own worse enemy

What did you do while retired?
Everyone saying it’s not about the retirement. People don’t realize how important consistent work is for your health. It’s why I think it’s better to be born poor than born rich. Less motivated to work hard since you already have access to the things you need/want.
This happens all the time with former Child performers. Honestly, it’s kinda sad.
Because they learn nothing about life during most crucial years when that needs to happen. Everything is on 'easy mode'.
It’s not retiring early that does this. It’s a lack of discipline.
...and a substance problem and possibly being molested or worse by Dan Schneider as a kid. Oh, and Godlessness.
It leads to a lack of discipline.

Steady on, nothing indicated she would be one of the best of our time.
She was far from talented. She was a 1 trick pony and not a very good actress.
She was pretty talented she was compared to Carol Burns. Dan Schiender just b heels her rise to fake so he destroyed her, starting her downward spiral
I really do hope she can get sober and stay clean. I've never met her of course, but my heart goes out for the pain and misery she must be going through, not to mention how terribly she has embarrassed herself on a national stage.
I just hope she can get well.
This shows that boredom is a demon and if you don't deal with it, IT WILL DEAL WITH YOU!!!
Idle hands are the Devil's playthings, as they say.
You might end up on the internet, putting emphasis on things with the caps lock.
Early retirement is amazing, BUT only if you are responsible and make mature decisions to handle your actions.
I wish this was spread more than just "Nah man. Weed isn't an addiction" shit.
@@Saltedroastedcaramelwhy would you want made up bullshit spread around?

You can't change a person like this, and probably should not get too close. early retirement wasn’t the problem. it’s early drug usage at the age of 16 her frontal cortex isn’t fully developed which greatly affects the decision making. From there, it all falls onto personality. You can tell Amanda was always proud of herself for not living a glamorous life. The moment she started doing drugs it ruined her self-esteem. You can see this in how she talked about herself, how she lashed out to those who were successful, and how she coped with more drugs.
