Nakamichi BX-150 Gets Stuck Between Modes - Control (Cam) Motor Failure and Rebuild

- The BX-150 has been my favorite playback deck ever since I got it. For five months, this machine gave me no problems whatsoever. Now, it keeps getting stuck between modes due to dead spots in the control motor.
We're going to tear the motor apart and fix it today (hopefully permanently).

For those curious, a re-measure of wow and flutter on this deck gave me 0.06%. Maybe a touch better than it was, but not by any appreciable amount.
Watched this all the way - well done! It's very satisfying when we do a good fix!
It's working so well now I've stopped trying to talk myself into selling it. It's just too good of a deck. Heads are absolutely flawless.
@@Oklawolf Then don't sell it, it's a keeper - I would not sell it either. ;o) I have some decks that I won't sell, not necessarily 'top end' machines.
I just got through servicing the transport on my BX-150 and re-assembled and it will not run (it did work before the service). I took out the cam motor and noted its position so I could put it back correctly. Upon application of power the capstan motor does run for a very short time. I can manual close the contacts of the cam leaf switch with the Gray wire on the cam motor and it will run a short time and then stop. I have put this transport into a BX-2 which is functional and the transport behaves exactly same. I have checked all leads/connectors and leaf switches and cannot find any “Open” connections. I believe that is a timing issue with the cam motor but I have doubled checked the cam position and it still will not run. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you found a source for the capstan oil retaining washers? Also do you know if the orange caps in this model suffer from OCD?
I haven't found a source for those, no. I've heard sequins can be made to work. These models are safe from orange cap disease.

I'm not sure that's the same transport - this may not work for that unit.
I tried it and it worked. Removed reel motor open thorough cleaning and RX-202 back in business. @@Oklawolf
