It will certainly and very likely go thru 1" thick of mild steel. There's a video on RUclips of someone shooting thru 1" thick steel, however most likely mild steel. Unfortunately cannot find that video anymore, maybe the person removed it.
I personally know people who had shot thru 1" steel with .50BMG API. .50BMG API won't go thru 1" AR500 steel but it will go thru 1" regular mild steel though.

1.5" thick Grade 5 Titanium. MUCH MUCH lighter and will stop everything as well besides the .50cal SLAP rounds.
