Jose Canseco and Mark Mcgwire were my heros growing up in the 80's. my first baseball game was the Oakland A's in the late 80's when I was like 6 years old. even though they both did steroids they still are my favorite players next to Rickey Henderson. they all made baseball very fun to watch.

Great interview. Love how Canseco doesn’t BS and doesn’t dance around the questions like all of his former teammates and former friends. While many will criticize him for being a whistleblower to sell his book, it is eye opening that many of our favorite players are just as guilty in taking steroids/PEDs, yet Jose acknowledges what he did and wants the others to take accountability.

Canseco himself doesn't think he belongs and based on is numbers he's right. He was definitely a very good player but injuries and a slightly too short career derailed a HOF induction.
I wanted to be Jose when I was growing up. I was angry when he admitted steroid use but as the years went by, I think he might be the single most important person to ever play the game. His honesty changed it forever. He should be in the Hall of Fame for nothing other than being the man that shined a light on the ugly side of the game and setting it back on the right track. He's still my favorite athlete of all time.

When I was 15 he was absolutely my idol and I never idolized anyone as much as I did when I was 15. It's complicated but still to this day there is a mystique to this man for me. I cannot shake it and I think I miss that time when I could have an idol and be ignorant of the warts.

I happiest day of my childhood was when my parents drove me across Texas to see Jose play against the Rangers when he was with the Red Sox. I couldn't find a 33 Red Sox jersey (this was well before online shopping) so my mom bought me a plain Red Sox jersey and got 33 and Canseco embroidered on the back. During batting practice, Jose looked up and saw my jersey (I had my back to him for that reason) and he gave us a thumbs up. My mom took a picture on her Polaroid camera. I still have and cherish that snapshot. Now, as a 36 year old man, I remember that day like it was yesterday.
When i was younger, i used to watch baseball and enjoyed it and remember the 90's baseball. This is a great documentary which shows that in any bu$ine$$ industry, the truth is more of an inconvenience than anything else. Jose Canseco is simply paying the price for exposing MLB corruption, but in his heart, he did what was right and what his father told him to do: "Do the right thing"
I remember meeting you at a Card show in Buck County Pa in 1989 while you was recuperating from your hand injury. I got an autographed copy of you from the cover of Sports Illustrated from that year. I still have it to this day. You are still my Hero Jose. Love ya!

Excellent Documentary! I've always admired Jose Canseco for bringing up the steroid issue and having the courage to defend the truth even if he was alone. It hurt his career inmensely, yet he still stands by truth and being honest about his career in MLB. He was a super star and many of us remember him as a great player. I do believe he will have the opportunity to reinvent himself and move on to alternate great things. He is still in great shape, an idol and an inspiration! One of the very best in the late eighties and nineties no doubt. He was spectacular. I doubt very very few didn’t ped so why pick on this individual as much as everyone has? After watching this documentary. I have a new understanding of Jose. I love him and respect him for what he did. It took guts and bravery to speak out. I heard a lot about jose when I was younger. But now that I’ve heard his side of the story. My opinion has changed.

I had 3 ruptured disc and a 4.5 " split in my spine and wrkd 8 years on a drilling rig like that to the point the disc were gone by the time i had surgery, i know exactly what kinda pain he had physically, it sux, he was honest and people didn't like it, sounds very familiar!!!!! One of the best of all time especially for being honest!!!!

I saw him play in a few games at LaGrave field when he played with the Fort Worth Cats and he could still launch baseballs into orbit, that line drive laserbeam home run he hit to center field at Dodger Stadium in the 1988 WS was crazy or that one he hit up into the third deck at the SkyDome….not sure if there was anything left of that ball. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are, but he was honest about everything and he’s still blackballed by MLB while all the liars prospered in the hypocrisy that is MLB. Hopefully he gets the chance to be in MLB baseball again because it’s very obvious that he loves the game more than anything, like he said, baseball is his addiction.

First of all, if you read Ken Rosenthal's article that broke the story in the first place, electronic sign-stealing was a "league-wide" issue. The Astros just got singled out because of Mike Fiers; he went to the media with a smoking gun. Other teams were doing it too. Why weren't they also investigated? Hell, the Red Sox got busted using Apple Watches the very same year the Astros were using a garbage can. That the Astros got singled out is what is actually the real scandal here as it pertains to electronic sign-stealing. It's not like dozens of other major league players from Chris Bassitt to Joey Votto to Steven Souza to Anthony Rizzo (I could go on) haven't said that it was happening all over the league. But when honest guys like those mentioned do this, idiots like yourself put on on this ridiculous "see no evil, hear no evil" act. You don't want to know the whole truth the way Canseco told the whole truth about steroids. The same way all those steroid users were pretending it was Canseco and only Canseco who did steroids, you want to pretend it was only the Astros stealing signs with tech. All despite the mountains of evidence out there that make that notion that only the Astros cheated with technology absolutely risible. I think one day the whole truth on all this will come out much like Canseco eventually got the whole truth out about steroids. You're just not perceptive enough to see that, I guess. The media can play you any way they want. Also, electronic sign-stealing doesn't give you nearly the competitive advantage of steroids. No one ever just quit taking steroids or performance-enhancing drugs the way the Astros decided to abandon the sign stealing on their own in 2018 due to the relative ineffectiveness of the scheme. There are even players that say knowing what pitch is coming messes them up. Who would ever say that steroids diminished their play? Finally, there are players like Ken Caminiti who have DIED due to baseball turning a blind eye and incentivizing steroid use. No one died from electronic sign-stealing. Congress wasn't investigating electronic sign-stealing. They were investigating illegal steroids. It's obvious that the steroid scandal towers over any scandal you want to pin on just the Astros (even though it was most of baseball) that came from electronic sign stealing. You simply have no sense of perspective.

One of Baseballs greatest charms is its records and numbers dating back to the late 1800s. The steroid era affected those records and numbers and that is a real shame.

Great interview. Love how Canseco doesn’t BS and doesn’t dance around the questions like all of his former teammates and former friends. While many will criticize him for being a whistleblower to sell his book, it is eye opening that many of our favorite players are just as guilty in taking steroids/PEDs, yet Jose acknowledges what he did and wants the others to take accountability.

Canseco himself doesn't think he belongs and based on is numbers he's right. He was definitely a very good player but injuries and a slightly too short career derailed a HOF induction.
I wanted to be Jose when I was growing up. I was angry when he admitted steroid use but as the years went by, I think he might be the single most important person to ever play the game. His honesty changed it forever. He should be in the Hall of Fame for nothing other than being the man that shined a light on the ugly side of the game and setting it back on the right track. He's still my favorite athlete of all time.

I happiest day of my childhood was when my parents drove me across Texas to see Jose play against the Rangers when he was with the Red Sox.
I couldn't find a 33 Red Sox jersey (this was well before online shopping) so my mom bought me a plain Red Sox jersey and got 33 and Canseco embroidered on the back.
During batting practice, Jose looked up and saw my jersey (I had my back to him for that reason) and he gave us a thumbs up. My mom took a picture on her Polaroid camera. I still have and cherish that snapshot. Now, as a 36 year old man, I remember that day like it was yesterday.

When i was younger, i used to watch baseball and enjoyed it and remember the 90's baseball. This is a great documentary which shows that in any bu$ine$$ industry, the truth is more of an inconvenience than anything else. Jose Canseco is simply paying the price for exposing MLB corruption, but in his heart, he did what was right and what his father told him to do: "Do the right thing"

Excellent Documentary! I've always admired Jose Canseco for bringing up the steroid issue and having the courage to defend the truth even if he was alone. It hurt his career inmensely, yet he still stands by truth and being honest about his career in MLB. He was a super star and many of us remember him as a great player. I do believe he will have the opportunity to reinvent himself and move on to alternate great things. He is still in great shape, an idol and an inspiration! A truly brave man to talk about his mom like he did in this interview! ... Thank you so much for posting this video.

One of the very best in the late eighties and nineties no doubt. He was spectacular. I doubt very very few didn’t ped so why pick on this individual as much as everyone has? At least he is honest and doesn’t lie about it and to me that’s a true hero. Not only do I want to look up to someone on the baseball field I wanna know off of it they are honest and decent to boot! This man is both. He was great no doubt and the drugs didn’t do that. He had it in him all along. Love you Jose!!
If Canseco would have flown under the radar today, possibly getting away with peds through micro dosing which is how the Tatis, and Cano's of today roll, he would have commanded a massive, 350 Million+ dollar contract. He would be someone around a Trout in earnings. I wish he would have been a bit more savvy when releasing his info to avoid the MLB blacklisting him. Canseco would have made a HELL of a baseball coach today.

I had 3 ruptured disc and a 4.5 " split in my spine and wrkd 8 years on a drilling rig like that to the point the disc were gone by the time i had surgery, i know exactly what kinda pain he had physically, it sux, he was honest and people didn't like it, sounds very familiar!!!!! One of the best of all time especially for being honest!!!!

I saw him play in a few games at LaGrave field when he played with the Fort Worth Cats and he could still launch baseballs into orbit, that line drive laserbeam home run he hit to center field at Dodger Stadium in the 1988 WS was crazy or that one he hit up into the third deck at the SkyDome….not sure if there was anything left of that ball. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are, but he was honest about everything and he’s still blackballed by MLB while all the liars prospered in the hypocrisy that is MLB. Hopefully he gets the chance to be in MLB baseball again because it’s very obvious that he loves the game more than anything, like he said, baseball is his addiction.

I once hit (2) consecutive homerun's, one swinging right handed, and the very next pitch, I hit the 2nd swinging left handed. You're crazy. Or just so stupid and gullible that you fall for some sort of recency bias. You're definitely ignorant. First of all, if you read Ken Rosenthal's article that broke the story in the first place, electronic sign-stealing was a "league-wide" issue. The Astros just got singled out because of Mike Fiers; he went to the media with a smoking gun. Other teams were doing it too. Why weren't they also investigated? Hell, the Red Sox got busted using Apple Watches the very same year the Astros were using a garbage can.
That the Astros got singled out is what is actually the real scandal here as it pertains to electronic sign-stealing. It's not like dozens of other major league players from Chris Bassitt to Joey Votto to Steven Souza to Anthony Rizzo (I could go on) haven't said that it was happening all over the league. But when honest guys like those mentioned do this, idiots like yourself put on on this ridiculous "see no evil, hear no evil" act. You don't want to know the whole truth the way Canseco told the whole truth about steroids. The same way all those steroid users were pretending it was Canseco and only Canseco who did steroids, you want to pretend it was only the Astros stealing signs with tech. All despite the mountains of evidence out there that make that notion that only the Astros cheated with technology absolutely risible. I think one day the whole truth on all this will come out much like Canseco eventually got the whole truth out about steroids. You're just not perceptive enough to see that, I guess. The media can play you any way they want.
Also, electronic sign-stealing doesn't give you nearly the competitive advantage of steroids. No one ever just quit taking steroids or performance-enhancing drugs the way the Astros decided to abandon the sign stealing on their own in 2018 due to the relative ineffectiveness of the scheme. There are even players that say knowing what pitch is coming messes them up. Who would ever say that steroids diminished their play?
Finally, there are players like Ken Caminiti who have DIED due to baseball turning a blind eye and incentivizing steroid use. No one died from electronic sign-stealing. Congress wasn't investigating electronic sign-stealing. They were investigating illegal steroids. It's obvious that the steroid scandal towers over any scandal you want to pin on just the Astros (even though it was most of baseball) that came from electronic sign stealing. You simply have no sense of perspective.
