While many will criticize him for being a whistleblower to sell his book, it is eye opening that many of our favorite players are just as guilty in taking steroids/PEDs, yet Jose acknowledges what he did and wants the others to take accountability.

Jose Canseco and Mark Mcgwire were my heros growing up in the 80's. my first baseball game was the Oakland A's in the late 80's when I was like 6 years old. even though they both did steroids they still are my favorite players next to Rickey Henderson. they all made baseball very fun to watch.

At least cansrco was honest about steroids..unlike McGuire. it's not an unfair advantage when u have to compete with others on steroids.
when he said his friend Ricky told him about steroids i immediately thought of Ricky Hendersen and theres a picture of the two of them together were Hendersen is absolutely shredded.

When I was 15 he was absolutely my idol and I never idolized anyone as much as I did when I was 15. It's complicated but still to this day there is a mystique to this man for me. I cannot shake it and I think I miss that time when I could have an idol and be ignorant of the warts.

He still my idol
I wanted to be Jose when I was growing up. I was angry when he admitted steroid use but as the years went by, I think he might be the single most important person to ever play the game. His honesty changed it forever. He should be in the Hall of Fame for nothing other than being the man that shined a light on the ugly side of the game and setting it back on the right track. He's still my favorite athlete of all time.

I happiest day of my childhood was when my parents drove me across Texas to see Jose play against the Rangers when he was with the Red Sox.
I couldn't find a 33 Red Sox jersey (this was well before online shopping) so my mom bought me a plain Red Sox jersey and got 33 and Canseco embroidered on the back.
During batting practice, Jose looked up and saw my jersey (I had my back to him for that reason) and he gave us a thumbs up. My mom took a picture on her Polaroid camera. I still have and cherish that snapshot. Now, as a 36 year old man, I remember that day like it was yesterday.

Canseco himself doesn't think he belongs and based on is numbers he's right. He was definitely a very good player but injuries and a slightly too short career derailed a HOF induction.
Steroids or no steroids Jose Canseco has always been my favorite player of all time! He might have had his problems but so do I, so does everybody. As a ball player, as a slugger, a base stealer, a human being, I think he's great! Nobody could mash a baseball like Jose Canseco !!

I was a high-school baseball coach during the steroid era. I had all my players on roids.
When i was younger, i used to watch baseball and enjoyed it and remember the 90's baseball. This is a great documentary which shows that in any bu$ine$$ industry, the truth is more of an inconvenience than anything else. Jose Canseco is simply paying the price for exposing MLB corruption, but in his heart, he did what was right and what his father told him to do: "Do the right thing"

Excellent Documentary! I've always admired Jose Canseco for bringing up the steroid issue and having the courage to defend the truth even if he was alone. It hurt his career inmensely, yet he still stands by truth and being honest about his career in MLB. He was a super star and many of us remember him as a great player. I do believe he will have the opportunity to reinvent himself and move on to alternate great things. He is still in great shape, an idol and an inspiration! One of the very best in the late eighties and nineties no doubt. He was spectacular. I doubt very very few didn’t ped so why pick on this individual as much as everyone has? At least he is honest and doesn’t lie about it and to me that’s a true hero. Not only do I want to look up to someone on the baseball field I wanna know off of it they are honest and decent to boot! This man is both. He was great no doubt and the drugs didn’t do that. He had it in him all along. Love you Jose!!

If Canseco would have flown under the radar today, possibly getting away with peds through micro dosing which is how the Tatis, and Cano's of today roll, he would have commanded a massive, 350 Million+ dollar contract. He would be someone around a Trout in earnings. I wish he would have been a bit more savvy when releasing his info to avoid the MLB blacklisting him. Canseco would have made a HELL of a baseball coach today.

I had 3 ruptured disc and a 4.5 " split in my spine and wrkd 8 years on a drilling rig like that to the point the disc were gone by the time i had surgery, i know exactly what kinda pain he had physically, it sux, he was honest and people didn't like it, sounds very familiar!!!!! I once hit (2) consecutive homerun's, one swinging right handed, and the very next pitch, I hit the 2nd swinging left handed. Yes, now that you mentioned it, and a few months later, Palmeiro tested positive for Steroids use and was suspended, and when he came back from Suspension, he was booed so bad, he had to wear earplugs, and was released by the Baltimore Orioles later that season, and Palmeiro never played MLB again!!!

One of Baseballs greatest charms is its records and numbers dating back to the late 1800s. The steroid era affected those records and numbers and that is a real shame.

I saw him play in a few games at LaGrave field when he played with the Fort Worth Cats and he could still launch baseballs into orbit, that line drive laserbeam home run he hit to center field at Dodger Stadium in the 1988 WS was crazy or that one he hit up into the third deck at the SkyDome….not sure if there was anything left of that ball. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are, but he was honest about everything and he’s still blackballed by MLB while all the liars prospered in the hypocrisy that is MLB. Hopefully he gets the chance to be in MLB baseball again because it’s very obvious that he loves the game more than anything, like he said, baseball is his addiction.

I was a kid for this era. Finding out all my favorite players were juiced to the gills turned me off baseball for a long time. I'm back in it now. I'm well aware there are guys still doing it. But as a kid, realizing my heros weren't who they appeared to be was absolutely heartbreaking. It was a great crash course in the reality that is life.

Mad respect Jose! I personally never gave 2 squirrel squirts about the steroid use! I just love baseball. Any great athlete has to deal with the temptation out there no matter what it is, sex, drugs, etc…. At least your drug was baseball. Maybe that compromised some of your decisions but at least it was to be a better ball player! Baseball is the greatest game ever played! You are one of my baseball heroes!

When Jose said he believes McGwire's brother got Mark on roids, that's too far; he's clearly unsure of it. Some of the stuff Jose is saying is false or short of context (like Mark's other brother played pro fb too, not just college)

I remember all the A's coming into the gym I worked at, even Jose's twin brother would come in.. as well as their wives... Jose was actually a pretty nice guy, as was McGwire.. Eck, not so much!
