- NO MORE DEADLOCK CONTENT LOCK LETS GO!
I and a couple others in the community have been datamining & modding deadlock since we got access, this is one of the MANY MANY things we've found. More on the way.
The logo in the thumbnail is not official. The background music is the supposed neon prime menu theme, found in Cadence's files.

kay why ess
This is really cool, but I'm kind of glad they shifted towards 1900-1940's steampunk/retro-futurism. Cyberpunk is the safe pick and Deadlock's current aesthetics are unmatched.
i'm just amazed that they got this far along the art pass before scrapping it for something more interesting. in all fairness though, if there was one company i would expect to do a complete remodeling when the alpha turns out looking Eh, it would be valve lolol
@@turingsghost Fun fact, The artstyle change happend roughly around June or November 2023
Its a shame that the whole map was scrapped, seems like a waste to throw it all into the bin for something that looks finished.
there is almost zero steampunk in Deadlock
@@theploot8230 I dont think it was scrapped, in the game files there is a test map that looks like a chunk of this one but with the steampunk art pass instead. Maybe it will return later as an additional map.
deadlock is obviously a wise choice. the neon colors and vivid light in neon prime tends to focus on the environment and not the characters weapons and skill effects. the tone and theme of deadlock with its semi-desaturated colors make the characters pop and recognizable even in a distance away.
Just like tf2 evrything is clear
from now on and into time immemorial devs will continuously rediscover tf2 and keep being blown away that its as good as a team based multiplayer shooter gets, technically and stylistically
@@gugu5285 olympic level glazing
@@Sly_rim its shiny isnt it?
yeah switching to the current aesthetic of the 1950 somethings with occult/supernatural stuff was the right call, so much more unique than a futuristic aesthetic
Disagree
Agreed. Cyberpunk sci-fi is overdone and generic. Glad we got the current occult noir setting
@@TheRealMrBillyBob to each their own, but there is definitely a saturation of futuristic/cyberpunk games in comparison to the aesthetic the game has now.
i hope we keep everything we possibly can about neon prime archived, love what you're doing here
working on it!
please note the trash can with a logo on it suspiciously similar to the Overwatch logo at 3:13 LMAOOOOO
YEAH ITS SO FUCKING GOOD (and we coincidentally dont have the model too)
that is absolutely wild
Keep reaching
@@mightyfineincredible2252 would you like to elaborate on why you believe this to be a reach or are you just typing random words as a form of recreation
@@mightyfineincredible2252 Bro did not look
I think the current art direction is a much smarter choice, but this map is sooo much more interesting to look at.
they have been gradually changing and updating the building meshes in the game
I would expect by launch for it to have a lot of unique and interesting buildings, similar to in Overwatch. But since they are changing the layout a lot still they aren't doing that yet.
Yoshi (a Deadlock dev who gives updates and info about the game on the official Deadlock discord) has said that the current map is still unfinished and in development, and that it's due for a lot of touchups.
@@spinyslasher6586 yeah that makes sense
The map is starting to look really nice, they add things every major patch
Neon Prime looks so insanely polished. I can't even imagine getting this far along in development and having a change of art style and having to redo every asset.
My headcanon is that Valve last minute realized it just looked like Monday Night Combat and switched artstyles
Either that or Overwatch. Dont get me wrong I enjoy bullying OW too, but you gotta admit the artstyle of that game is good. Neon Prime feels like "We got OW at home" and Valve thankfully decided to completely switch up the style
@@DoctorTheo yea. Concept wise it was good. But it looked more generic at current time. The 40s theme is something we dont usually see and it made it feel more stand out. We got enough futuristic themed games already.
Yeah, not to say the setting and concept was bad or poorly done, but it does look generic and certainly gives off vibes that it would be a mobile game MOBA or some slop that Hi-Rez would shit out
Out of all the improvements the prohibition era artstyle has, I do wish the modern deadlock communicated lane colors as clearly as this version did.
it looks cool but, current aesthetic is much better IMO, plus visibility from daylight theme
1:51 Haze V1 my beloved ❤
Holy shit, the aesthetic shift was necessary
Not bad, but really generic! Love the new Deadlock theme, really refreshing!
I like that the new art style feels more fresh in comparison to old cyberpunk one
Bebop still look like bebop? Damn he fit in so well in deadlock.
i lot of the models are not updated yet, like Talon, McGinnis and Yamato as well
His profile pic is what his redesign is going to look more like
I am so gutted by the fact this music won't be released, this sounds freaking awesome!!
juggernaut at the top at 2:28 LOL
nice catch!
Im soooo happy they changed the art style and setting
So cool to have as an alternative, even though what we have is better, being able to mod this map back in or have skins of the old models is would be insane and awesome, the potential this has for the workshop later down the line….
Infernus got the glow up of the century
What I like about Valve is instead of trying to fix why this wouldn't work, they changed it to something that will work. Valve don't have the fear that holds a lot of devs back from binning large quantities of a game in the pursuit of making the game better.
crazy how bebop dynamo and viscous were the only three characters (that i could see) that got absolutely zero design changes between neon prime and deadlock, makes me wonder if they'll get redesigned too
sure hope bebop keeps the same general silhouette, giant mace arm is cool asf it would be a shame to see it go
Dynamo got a complete redesign between Neon Prime and Deadlock though, you can see at 2:05 and 2:12 that he used to look more like a sumo wrestler than a current professor we all adore
Yamato on other hand is practically unchanged like Bebop and Viscous while Forge got recolor and renamed to McGinnis while Shiv had a slight outfit change along with recolor too
What about Kelvin? Literally same, and grey talon
@@55super55whoops... i see now
@@alexandru5917kelvin's suit is completely incomparable, didn't see grey talon at all whoops
@@alexandru5917 Kelvin got a redesign, he had an environmental suit with a big triangle thing on his back connected to his gun, you can see it in action at 2:08, in Deadlock he now wears a fur coat and has a glowing runestone on his back instead
You are right about Grey Talon, or "Orion" as he was known back in Neon Prime, he was practically unchanged in terms of his appearance, i forgot about him
glad that they've changed
that alpha feels like some indie game
if some plp say that Deadlock doesn't look like a VALVE game, I don't think they have ever saw this
game looks way better now holy smokes
I'm so glad they switched to the current design today. I felt like this environment was similar to Overwatch's maps (flying cars, buildings, robots etc).
Looks like the New York map with a different art pass.
Yeah the map layout stayed mostly the same, theres quite a lot of minor differences the more you look into it though.
YBFs will see this and say "this is SO much better than what we got" without explaining why and that'll be that.
idk what YBFs means but ahem
This is SO much better than what we got
(Ha, first!)
because it looked like monday night combat dude, it's really not complicated
what is ybf
because it looked more like gigantic
Red shirt black pants shiv goes crazy
I KNOW RIGHT
Interestingly, you can see some footages have day time. Was there time cycle mechanic like dota?
The once taking place during day time were made at an earlier point in development
@@titant4748 I see. It still would be cool to have to it eventually
I love miles molares
map looks awesome
It'd be neat to get the Neon Prime skins for the current characters. Kelvin's is particularly sick.
Man, they had alot of work put into it before making the swap. Kinda sad to see all that work put aside, but I do like deadlock's look better.
Do you happen to still have the file for the song? I'd love to have a better quality version than I could rip from this video
Same here!
yeah
I like the current aesthetic but man I like this one even better, kinda sad that this was scrapped. It's also cool to see just how many things are leftovers from this build, like the stamina bar and the shop UI, no wonder I felt like some elements just didn't fit the art style
also I somehow missed that some heroes are also leftovers and remained completely unchanged, I guess they will receive overhauls to make them fit more into the current art style right?
So thats why the base looks a bit off theme on deadlock..
this would be dope as a second map, the map and character skins fully different per map, would feel like playing different games within a game
I think it'd be cool. Sounds like a lot of work, but the idea of playing this version of the map is appealing to me.
they really dodge the concord bullet huh
not really concord was a rip off of starwars with shoehorned DEI, this is a cyber punk setting with robots. id say that a polished version of this would be as popular as deadlock is, because its from valve and valve makes good games.
Hey dude, i have a question
I typed citadel_book_open 1 in console to read the comics, but the pages are not loaded. What do I need to do to see the pages?
the pages dont exist anymore but theres a video of the entire thing somewhere on youtube
@@lamarrite oh ok ty
they made the right call with deadlock, this looks like dog bowl water
People keep saying "cyberpunk is overdone" i think its mostly futuristic they're thinking of, i wish for neon prime as its one of my favorite styles but i love deadlock all the same
imagine Neon Prime...
I know we're all saying it looks worse, but like, of _course_ it looks worse, it was unfinished and unpolished! Though I enjoy the current art direction a lot, I'm still intrigued to see where this would have ended up.
PLEASE tell me people where able to get a copy of this, or it’s still in the file’s somewhere?
unfortunately not :( a lot remains in files though
@@lamarrite We gotta save what we can and rebuild it lol
Would be so fun to play it with updated heroes.
they could sell these old assets as map skin like they do with Dota 2
Do you have any of the placeholder models for the shop? The one with the three runes.
If youre talking about the old deadlock ones im actually not sure. Do you have them?
@@lamarrite Found the name , it's citadel_prop_dynamic(shop_unassigned_1_shop_prop), u can find it by staring map hero_testing.
I was always a fantasy hater because of personal taste and how cliched and common it is. Sci fi on the other hand is something I would always prefer however it is astonishing to admit that sci fi aesthetics are also super cliched and alike nowadays, there's not a big difference with fantasy in that matter. Current setting is really supreme in terms of balance.
is the 1920's really considered "fantasy" now?
@@haiperbus No? I stated the last sentence separately from the previous one. Deadlock setting is neither of those I listed above.
this art style overall looks better than deadlock's current imo, the characters do look off/too cyber-robo in this version but i think if they gave them the quality we see in current deadlock+a new look in general it would be good [i think the horror-esque theme hurts the games look] They should just make it NewLock
Do hope we get a summoner type back
if they worked on a bit more on this setting i think it would work. current one is.. idk. similar valve game style. very similar style with tf2 and half life 2 or even dota 2 to an extend.
Although it looks generic, one benefit of the cyberpunk theme is that there are no restraints on character design, as basically technology can make anything possible. Eg. You can make a traditional samurai, greaser or cowboy work in a cyberpunk world with some sci-fi time-travel magic, but the opposite doesn't quite work in the current aesthetic.
The steampunk occult noir theme of current Deadlock is very unique, but also very specific, which limits the types of hero designs and abilities that 'fit'.
It's not impossible, but it will just take a lot more creativity to continue to put out unique characters that might believably exist in an alternate timeline between 1900-1950.
You can still make any kind of tech with steampunk- it just has to be stylized correctly
@@WilliamWatrousmy point was that you can be a lot more free with style in a futuristic game. For example, one can totally imagine greaser fashion existing in some future subculture (it does in Japan). I doubt we'd have Shiv, Yamato, even Bebop if they had started out with this theme. Anyways I don't even think that's true, Eg. can't make a hacking character.
@@p0ison1vy Shiv and Bebop fit perfectly with Deadlock's aesthetic, they just had to go trough a slight recolor. Now, Yamato is confirmed to get a complete model overhaul at some point, I think Grey Talon too.
@@p0ison1vy Greaser in 1940's magic NYC is so much more beleivable and interesting than another hacking character in another cyberpunk game
But it's the limitation that makes something seriously unique and stylish. Following a different and unique pattern is much better than a generic futuristic game where every character could have come from anywhere. Like Apex, I LOVE Apex, but when you start realizing how random the characters are to each other, it gets kind of dumb.
You look at a neon prime character and he could have come from anywhere
You look at a deadlock character and, oh, it's definitely deadlock.
Some places remind me of Mirror's Edge aesthetic
I want to see what Citadel was like
I don't think citadel went anywhere. It was jus hl alyx assets and dev textures.
@@dr.cheeze5382 it did go somewhere, it became neon prime which became deadlock :3
This is definitely better
I don’t mind a futuristic look and style (it’s definitely overdone) but I think the issue is THIS art direction comes off very generic and there’s no personality. Deadlock feels the opposite
They do a Chinese version of Deadlock?
??
From Neon to London
*New York
What a shame this one got scraped
the visual yes
but it just became deadlock
honestly, they did dodge a bullet by changing its art direction, this looks so painfully generic and overdone that i cant imagine me playing a game that went this way visually, deadlock's current unfinished and early look is miles more interesting, distinguished and diverse than this.
the map itself isnt terrible though, i can see them working it into the current game and working pretty good.
Yeah this shit looks god awful… but they did something most wouldn’t which is realizing it is and changing it… they cooked.
Subjective of course but i wouldnt say god awful, i personally think it looks quite cool. Just not very unique especially for 2024. Deadlock clears.
I think the old artstyle would have worked. The timing was just bad
I'm glad they went with the noire esthetic. This is so generic
Deadlock? beta
music is cool tho, share please
wawa
give me a jackie rn mutt boy on fp us west
idk wat yall on about this version looks so much more visually pleasing with more colors and better lighting
Damn, this looks like some fortnite ripoff, glad they scrapped this uninspired heap of neon
thank god they didn't do this
God I wanted neon prime more than deadlock, rip
As person who loves Medieval Fantasy or Sci-fi, Neon Prime style much more fun than Deadlock...IMHO steampunk/high fantasy sucks
None of what you described is Deadlock's theme...
Wow I would have just ignored this if given free. Appearance wise when you look like everyone else out the gate why should anyone take notice. Also I understand Alpha but even the current state of deadlock is 1000x better then this. My only gripe on the currant visuals is they need to be more refine character wise but aggressively the item shop still feels out of place and sure enough it still looks like it's former self the items need a visual appeal like dota 2 because they all look the same and out of place. I got more to say but this isn't the place for it.
Holyshit this looks ass compared to Deadlock
