    Digging those trees! I just want to hug them! I'm digging the reviews too! Great job! I'm trying to find sun shirts in larger sizes than you wear. It's so overwhelming looking for something you know you need. But you don't know the first thing to look for! Thank you for sharing your expertise!

      Thanks Kat! I'll keep an eye out for larger shirts. I had hoped to find some that came in sizes larger than I need on Amazon but had limited luck.
      Those trees were so neat, and I'd been itching to see them for years! Blows my mind that they're redwoods!

    The candelabra trees!!! So cool! This video was super helpful, it is so hard to find good plus size clothing. Especially plus size performance clothing. 💜💙💚💛🧡♥

      I'm glad this was helpful! I know that plus-size stuff, especially outdoor gear, is such a challenge.
      And yes, I've been dying to see these candelabra trees for years! I'm so happy we got to see them!

    Another budget alternative is the 32 Degrees brand sun hoodie, it has the hood drawstring, but no thumbholes. They are lightweight and ridiculously inexpensive. I bought them directly from the 32 Degrees website. Hadn't heard about the knee, wishing you a speedy recovery!!

      I've heard nothing but good things about 32 Degrees! I have a couple of items, but I haven't tried their sun hoodies. I'll have to take a look! And thank you- the knee has been quite a journey... 😕

    Looks like some great options!! A good sun block hoodie is great for kayaking, hiking, mowing - and all kinds of outdoor activities! “Keep making memories & adventure on!” ~Karen & Shannon WOY

      I agree! I'm covering up more and more for better protection these days. Keep getting outside! 🤗

    I love the Rei Sahara but it’s nice to know about the other alternatives. Thanks! The trees are so cool!

      Thank you! The trees were incredible, and totally worth the trip! I've even ordered more of those same shirts since making this video! 😂

    I agree on the REI sun shirt - colors and fit. I had to return it. I’m digging an Amazon one “LUYAA Women's UPF 50+ Sun Protection Hoodie.” The XXL is a true 1X I would say!! Great video!!!! Cool trip!

      Thank you! That shirt looks cute, and comes in a lot of fun colors! Good to know it's a true 1X!

    I've been telling folks about this video and this question kept popping up. Is sun screen still recommended while wearing Sun Shirts? Which waist pack are ya wearing? P.S. I love to hear and see you two giggling! It makes me smile everytime 🥾🥾🥾😺❤💛💚💙💜

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  5 месяцев назад +1

      No need for sunscreen under a sun shirt, which is part of the beauty of them! Of course, exposed areas still need it.
      The waist pack is the Osprey Ultralight Stuff waist pack alnk.to/5Q4QlVK . I LOVE it. I really like having a small pocket inside, another outside, and it's large enough for my phone AND selfie stick. I sometimes put it across my backpack straps like a chest pack!
      I laugh every time I watch that part, the two of us just absolutely dying, belly laughing uncontrollably! I had to leave that in! 😂 I still crack up thinking about Emma riding down the rapids like she did!

    Really good information, thank you! I'm glad you included parts of your trip, too. Made me want to get out on a river somewhere; it's been years (decades, actually) since I've done that.

    I just found a zip up city one at Lowe’s. That was very reasonably priced. I love it.

    Thanks for this! So nice to have options!
    Your starry sky photos were amazing - was this your phone or a separate camera? I despair of ever taking good night photos.

      Thank you! I took those with my Canon T7, and am upgrading soon to a better camera. I wish my phone would take pics like that. I may actually start a second channel about my photography, since I've been delving more into it while I'm off on disability.
      And always nice to have options for clothing, and see what they actually look like in use!

    Not a budget option, but I went through a number of options for sun hoodies and settled on the Vorrmi River Run Hoodie. I’ll be on the GR 11 next month and in lowlands it can easily get up to the 90-100’s in mid July. It provides good coverage and is super light weight, but it does seem prone to snags and wear, but I figure better than heat stoke

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  6 месяцев назад +2

      Snags > heat stroke any day! That hoodie looks really nice! I'd love to try a wool option at some point. Good luck with your trip! Have fun and don't overheat! 🙂

    Big point for me is, how stinky am I gonna be after wearing it for a couple days. So for no sun shirt fits that bill.

    • @WanderingSwitchback
      @WanderingSwitchback  6 месяцев назад +3

      So far, the REI shirts have done well on 2 night backpacking trips. I haven't tried these new shirts for more than a day at a time yet. I'd imagine a wool one would have better odor control than synthetic.
