H/H match update: It's been a while since we heard about the "new rule," but today it got a workout. Gene reminded the returning champion that she couldn't choose Richard (even though they failed to match yesterday). It turned out to be a good thing for the contestant who picked Brett... ... and Brett scores her 14th H/H match, moving a full 2 percentage points ahead of Richard now as far as matching accuracy. The same contestant quickly returned to the bonus round and this time was barred from choosing Brett, so she went back to Richard, and they again failed to match... Here's the updated leader board showing the 11 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy: Orson Bean - 100% (3 wins in 3 attempts). Gary Burghoff - 83.3% (5 wins in 6 attempts). TIE: Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Joyce Bulifant - 75% (3 wins in 4 attempts). TIE: Betty - 50% (15 wins in 30 attempts). TIE: Fannie - 50% (8 wins in 16 attempts). Charles - 45.7% (16 wins in 35 attempts). Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 wins in 18 attempts). Brett - 38.9% (14 wins in 36 attempts). Richard - 36.8% (93 wins in 253 attempts). Bert - 33.3% (5 wins in 15 attempts). *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 479, excluding the lost/missing episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325. (As per MatchGameProductions, these episodes "are nowhere to be found and also aren't in the Goodson/Todman Library. Sadly, looks like they are lost forever!")
Delight's stint of being a contestant on "Match Game" was just about as short as her acting career. There are only two credits listed under her IMDB page. "The Day It Came To Earth" in 1977, and a guest role as "Bunny" on "Happy Days" in 1979. I love it when I can information on contestants on what they've been up to since being on the show.

Paul Valentine (1919-2006) was indeed an actor. He was also known as Valia Valentinoff or Val Valentinoff, but his real name was William Daixel. Go figure. And "Saint Valentine" didn't come up?
During this episode Gene promoted a show called “Musical Chairs”. The show didn’t last very long but it was groundbreaking- Adam Wade, who was a singer and the show’s host (1935-2022), was the first African-American game show host!
By the looks of it, when Brett hugged you...YOU WERE HUGGED!! :) I like that. Not just one of those Hollywood type hugs. She seemed to really like and care about their contestants. :)
RIP Bert Convy, Gene Rayburn, Patti Deutsch, Charles Nelson Reilly, Lynn Redgrave, Brett Somers, and any other celebrity from the panel I missed. Long overdue condolences to all families for your loss :-(. By the way. Delight was a gorgeous woman in 75. I'm sure she's just as stunning today.
Yes, they were. They weren't cheap yet, but home insurance companies gave homeowners a lower rate if they had one/some installed, so LOTS of people forked over the equivalent of ~$500. The 1970s was the boom decade for popularity of smoke detectors.
I have to mention the cool new on screen graphics when the person won the big money... the dollar amount flashed on the screen, and there were little sparkling stars at the top. lol. A nice new touch.

@@mlg1948 Right on! you have no IDEA how many times those poor contestants lot with saint Richard (then again, I guess you would if you've been watching this show)
It's a good thing that the Match Game contestants didn't wear uniforms with their names on the back. Delight Slotemaker DeBruine would have caused big problems.
I remember the theme ditty" Let's play a game of musical chairs and give ourselves a round of applause -let's see if we can remember the words to all our favorite songs".....now, "applause "and "songs " don't really rhyme which kind of speaks volumes about why this show didn't last.
I wonder how much better The Match Game would have been without Brett. She wasn’t funny, she was a bully to the women on the lower panel, and her answers were horrible. Her ONLY saving grace was that Charles was so funny and made her funny (by basically mocking her).
My general rule of thumb is that if a question gets 7 different answers (1 contestant + 6 celebs), then it's a crummy question. Here, it only got 6 different answers (Charles and Lynn matched each other), but I think it still qualifies as a poorly written question. What answer was good? What did the writers have in mind? I still can't think of a logical answer beyond "Help!", but that's not funny or amusing at all, and a really good question offers possibilities for funny and amusing answers.

One woman contestant said everyone believed he was psychic. What I have noticed is that he often says something he's observed about the contestant that helps him guess how they'll answer.
I've been wondering that from the beginning. Anyone who has SEEN this show knows how much he loses for them (but for some reason, they never cared if they lost so...)
