DECLUTTER my ENTIRE house with me ROUND 2! | downsizing to move + minimalism

  • After researching the costs of moving across the country twice, even with just a U-HAUL, we discovered that we could MORE than replace all of our items with the money we would have spent on moving! So we are decluttering everything we own and only taking what will fit in our van and our car. In this video, I'm sharing round two of minimizing and decluttering as we are just a few days out now from our big move!
I hope it gives you lots of motivation whether you are moving as well or just wanting to minimize your possessions.
Stay tuned for my upcoming moving day video!

I’d suggest filling your pantry storage containers with clothes or smaller items wrapped in clothes. It could save some space and give extra cushion. Love watching your videos!

Great idea! If they won’t take it (sometimes they don’t because it is considered a medical device and there is a liability with that) you could offer it on facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or in a mom group for free :)

We moved a couple states away last month and did a shipping cube and then loaded our car up with immediate needed items and drove. I had been planning on taking my beloved spider plant with me in the car, but when it came down to it it didn’t fit and I had to rehome it. My ONE “decluttering” regret. I miss it 😢

Wow ! Excellent job !! I’d now add : “Good luck with your Move!”, but I’m here ten months later so ... All the Best in your new Home ! And now, your new baby is here, tooo !
I have moved / downsized a few xs. And raised two ( now grown) terrific kids. I am pretty good about getting rid of stuff, ESP when I move ! I’m almost 62 now & STILL have more to do ! So you’ve inspired me. But ugh : I am so stubborn about my books! Happily, 1/3 or 1/2 have gone over time. But ideally, another 1/2 ( at least) should go. Annnnd .... oh no ! Old cassettes of rare stuff ! I neeeeeeed to transfer them to digital . But I’m “lo tech“ and don’t quite know how to. Was reading up on it yest tho. Itz GOTTA be done! I have a few shoe boxes filled w cassettes ! I’m so over them ! ( but NOT enuf to toss ... music is huge to me, esp off-beat, non mainstream stuff) . OY ! Thx 4 this vid ! I’ve gotta get rid of another “onion layer” of stuff. And yes ! Heels ! I cant wear them anymore. Last week I donated four pairs of shoes , and sixteen pieces of clothing. Feels great & I don’t miss them one bit ! Cheers from Buffalo, NY ! Liz

If an item hasn’t been used in 3 months, we donate. If it is broken or damaged, that calls for immediate throw away. We have a difficult time getting rid of the crafts our kids make and clothes they wore at the hospital, etc. For that, we are blessed with an attic. That is where we keep those special items and collectibles. This way, it isn’t in our day to day living space, but we can always remember those memories. ❤️

I love this so much! We have a goal to move out of state eventually and I started minimalism about 2 years ago. Yet, I have been working on getting down to just the minimum of items so when we do want to sell the house and take the leap it will be an easier process.
After moving how do you feel now on letting go of items that seemed harder at the time? Any regrets moving out of state?

Family of six here. I don't have a single water bottle in my cabinets. I have three and each of my kids has one insulated water bottle. They are filled and stored in the fridge. This encourages them to drink every day. (I have three bc I'm too lazy to refill it three times a day and bc my kids will often sneak my water bc they may have been too lazy to refill theirs...)

I suppose you have the same in the US, l would list the bed and the breast pump in a kind of "l'll give it if you come and pick it up" Facebook group. I gave a whole old kitchen, a bed and 2 sofas that way. Most clothes donated to charity shops are sadly thrown away ( I volunteer in one) either because they get too much stuff or because they are very dull and worn in. So l really think we should buy less and use more what we have instead of just donating and buying again.

@@HeatherMitchellxoxo You’re welcome! Also, since it sounds like you’re moving to a cold climate for potentially the first time, here’s a pro tip from a Canadian on selecting a good winter jacket -> Check out brands like Nobis, MooseKnuckle, and Canada Goose. Even if you don’t buy from there, read the descriptions, see how they describe the parkas, check out the materials, try them on, etc. Look for breathable, wind resistant, water resistant, and a good quality down fill (not all down fillings are created equally!). A good synthetic is harder to find, but feasible if that’s your preference. A high quality winter coat if getting a proper winter makes ALL the difference between hating winter and loving it. Good luck with your move! 🍁
