hi! big six of crows fan here, and i SO get dnfing it!! it was one of the first fantasy novels i read and finished, but i didnt understand anything until halfway. and even then, i barely followed.
i recently picked it up again and reread it, after reading the shadow & bone triology as well, and it was so so so much clearer. BUT! this reading of All the books was AFTER watching the 16ep netflix show, and it made following the world and fantasy aspects so so so so SO much easier. watching the show first does spoil some details, with the whole plot of the triology and many character relationships heavily established by the end (and sometimes rushed for the sake of show timing), but it IS a rewrite of the original triology to work in the SOC cast and also adapt it easier to a television format, so the spoilers don't ruin the experience.
tl;dr is you can watch the Shadow & Bone show on netflix to skip reading the entire grishaverse if you just want to read and enjoy Six Of Crows (and Crooked Kingdom) because it while it may spoil a few relationships and dialogues, it honestly just makes it so you can jump right into the duology without having to read the other trilogy.
