- Welcome to MojoPlays, and today we’re ranking the Yakuza series. For this list, we’ll be going over every main game in the Yakuza franchise that was released in the west and ranking them from worst to best. We’ll be focusing on the latest version of each game, so that means the Kiwami versions will take precedence. Our list includes “Like a Dragon: Ishin!” (2023), “Yakuza Kiwami” (2016), “Yakuza: Like a Dragon” (2020), “Yakuza 0” (2015) and more! What’s your favorite Yakuza Game? I'm PC only and going from Kiwami 2 to Y3 was a hard experience in terms of Gameplay. It's very dated, especially the graphics. But I can see how good it was when it got released... Except the constant blocks
And the story, for me it's one of the best in the series
I went 7,0,K1,K2, and just survived Y3. Y4 is already a refreshment.
With Judgement serials and Ishin, we got yakuza games for days.
Yakuza 0 was such a fantastic game ❤️
Its combat system isn't very deep or anything, but its story is one of the best I've ever seen.
The minigames were the cherry on top of an already delicious cake 👍
Also, Majima is one of my favorite videogame characters ever 🔥
Sure it's not the deepest combat system but it has some advanced tech. It might not be Dmc or Ninja garden or anything but it has more to it than a lot of other action games.

Yakuza combat can be complex and pretty deep if you want it to be.
Lost Judgement at 8? Seriously? It's arguably the best game in the franchise. Also there seems to be no actual reasoning for the games being given their spots for many of the entries. Poor work.
Poor work, indeed. It almost feels like they didn't play the games well enough. I appreciate the work, but it feels half-assed at best.
I don't even think they even got pass K2 and they got information about the rest of the games from wiki and Facebook groups.
Like, in term of combat and gameplay alone, Judgment already surpassed 0, let alone compared to LJ.

I love how they used blurry footage from the original Yakuza 2, when talking about Yakuza 3, it shows real passion for the games from Mojo.
By the way, the OG Yakuza 2 is superior to Kiwami in many ways.
@@backupschmliff1156 I like both quite a lot personally, and I don't really have a clear favourite. But there was definitely some weird decisions and missed opportunities with K2.

I was just about okay seeing Judgment that far down the list but having both games so near the bottom of the list is utterly insane.

I personally think the judgement games is RGG studios best work yet. The story,gameplay, visuals, and side content are all really good.

Fr. Yagami became such a likeable protagonist for me immediately, and the first game has one of my favorite storylines from an RGG game. Also, the judgment games have probably some of the best combat, as Yagami’s fighting styles just feel so fluid and style switching is seamless. It makes me hype for Like a Dragon Gaiden, because I just want to be able to play as Kiryu in a 60fps dragon engine game
0 is definitely my favorite but a case could be made for 2 and 7 as well, as they all offer so much!
I just bought yakuza 0 because it was on sale but damn this series became my favorite of all time.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon got me into the series. I have played Ishin Zero kiwami 1 and finished kiwami 2 like 5 min ago. I loved ishin and kiwami 2
ah yes in lost judgment, kaito's the one who solves all the mysteries at seiryo high. starting out the yakuza 4 segment with a final boss is wild, too.
Yakuza 0 has one of the best stories i have played in a game
It legit feels like the narrator only played 5 minutes of each Game and Read the plot off of Wikipedia
I played Yakuza 0 a few years back. I couldn't find the English Dub. Idk if it had one but I was frustrated. That's until I realized how great the story and side content was. This game is definitely Goated 🐐
Yakuza 3 at 11 is INSANE!!! Story wise it was a breath of fresh air and I love the location of Okinawa

Watching this definitely makes me want to get back to playing through the franchise. Especially Y5. But it's ALOT! And there's already so many games I'm trying to play at once!

Playing Like a Dragon Ishin now and really enjoying it. But my honest favorite is Yakuza Like a Dragon. That remains of my all time favorite games ever. Yakuza 0 would probably be my second favorite in the series.
Just finished the judgement games first, I don’t know how any will ever top that.. but 0 so far is also incredible
I'm still glad I chose to start with Kiwami instead of 0 cause it's a more condensed experience of the Yakuza formula. Yakuza 0 has so much content it can be intimitading when you want to try.

Except for Dead Souls, there is no a “bad” Yakuza game, only the less better but which remains a good game.
I just finished 4 and i'd say it is a "bad" Yakuza game. Aside from Akiyama everything was bad in it after 3 for me.
My absolute favorite series, but the best stories that RGG has ever written were the two Judgement games. That said my favorite is Yakuza 5 and then 7. Loved Haruka’s section too.
I liked the first Judgment but the main plot to Lost Judgment was weak. I almost lost faith in RGG right until I played Like a dragon Ishin and my faith was restored.

Let's be honest. Judgement is alright but isn't the masterpiece everybody is making it out to be. At that whole Lost judgment school side content was awful. Yakuza 4 is OG and is goated. Plus it's the introduction of Akiyama one of the best characters in the Yakuza franchise. Ranking judgement higher would be an insult to Yakuza
I've only played yakuza's 0 through 6, but if I had to rank them from my least favorite to favorite, it would be:

@@mikefink7548 I agree, not only Haruka's parts, but Saejima's too. The whole prison and vilage section were not fun at all for me. In general, Yakuza 5 is too slow paced, I finished it, but don't to want see that game in front of me no more.
Yakuza Zero, Kiwami and Kiwami 2 - these are the titles for which I will buy PlayStation 4 PRO. In 2012 I bought a PlayStation 3 Super Slim for God of War 3 (plus remasters of early parts from PlayStation 2 and PS Portable) and all the Uncharted series. I've never been disappointed. I suspect that buying Yakuza and PlayStation 4 will not disappoint me either. 😉

I hated Yakuza 3 because of the chase sequences and the antagonist’s motives didn’t really click with me
My best to worst is: Yakuza 0, Kiwami 2, Yakuza 5, Like A Dragon, Kiwami, Yakuza 6, Lost Judgment, Yakuza 4, Judgment, & Yakuza 3!! All great games though👍
What makes dead souls good? Majima’s version of “Get To The Top”
Being honest, Yakuza 4 is my favorite game in all the franchise, the protagonists, the gameplay, the ost, the ridicolous moments and the finale make this game, FOR ME, the best Yakuza game

The list is incomplete without Yakuza: Kenzan! How can you ignore RGG's take on Musashi Miyamoto's story. The game is crazy good and I'd put it above Ishin!
Moreover, the Black Panther games on PSP are amazing. RGG Studios don't miss.

Newcomer here, so if I want to experience the full Yakuza story my go to games are Yakuza 0, Yakuza kiwami, Yakuza kiwami 2, then yaku 3,4,5 and 6 right?

I am in the middle of 5 right now. After 6 I will play Gaiden, then both Judgements and after Ishin I will try 7 and 8
The best by far, not even close is Yakuza 0. The cast of villains is unforgettable, every single one of them has personality, a reason for why they are the way they are. They had me going from hating their guts to respecting them.

@@mrdarkwing9747 yeah i can see that like the finale bosses except Daigo and The akiyamas boss. But i liked kido and i think that he should have fought Tanimura and saejima someone else entirely and Tanimuras original boss(eew) shouldnt even be a boss.
This is a terrible list. As someone who has 100 percent completion in all mainline titles, I’ll say that Yakuza 3 is way better than 4. Judgment also features better mechanics and a better story than 4 and 6 at least.

Yakuza 0 is classic but my favourite yakuza game is lost judgment
5 is way too high and the judgments are way too low
Yakuza 5 is very unique, it goes to all sorts of places. It basically fixes most of my problems I had with Yakuza 4. But Haruka and most Saejima sections kill the replay experience for me.
Yakuza 0, it's perfect. Yakuza Kiwami 2 is good, just not as good as I wanted it to be after playing the rest of the series.
Yakuza kiwami 2 is actually my favorite Yakuza game imo but doesn't have the harm if y0 tho and lost judgement too bloated even tho I really like it it has the best fight system and side content in my opinion but the story is the absolute worst in the series I still haven't beaten lost judgement yet too bloated and complicated once u get farther in completion in the game
At the time I played 5 it was the last Yakuza game for me to play in the series, and rumor was 7 was going to be a new protagonist. So I wanted to milk and enjoy my time with 5, and I heard how good it was. Yakuza 5 was the only game in the series that I thought about quitting half way through. The Saejima stuff was F-ing horrible. The prison sucked, the hunting village sucked, the city sucked, his combat sucked. It annoyed me that he didnt care about the "death" of his Aniki.
I understood and didnt hate the concept of the Haruka arch, but the execution was bad in my opinion. They made her way to stupid and naive. I understand them portraying her as a pillar of innocence, but after her childhood???? No way she should have been such a deer in the headlights to the BS she kept cowering from.
That said when Kiryu made that final push on that final mission and that music kicked in, all sins where forgiven and I enjoyed my time with 5.

Judgment series is underrated
I would put judgment and lost judgment 2 places higher, y4 below it. Kiwami 1 is on par with judgment. The rest i fully agreed

I honestly love judgment the most. Might not have variety but I love the wacky extracts, side content, cast, sound design and story. Bosses also aren't damage sponges and pose a threat for once which is what I loveee

I didn't play the others like 3 4 5 or the new rpg one wich I don't like for a yakuza game
I 100% understand the reluctance to the new RPG and crew with Yakuza 7. Trust me I HATED it when I saw the direction they where going. I did play 7 kicking and screaming and holy shit did it win me over. Like all other games it starts at a snails pace slow, but when it gets rolling around chapter 3 or 4 its solid.

It would have been nice to include some commentary on why the rankings were given. You giving low rankings to the judgement just doesn't make any sense in the lack of any reasons.
Something I can't get over is Naughty Dog's disgusting practice of remaking or remastering the same games over and over. The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 were some of the best looking games on their consoles. While the Last of Us remastered made sense because of the lack of backwards compatibility, the remake is just disgusting. Yakuza 0 was a PS3 game nd it still looks and plays phenomenal. I can't imagine a remake of that game.
How can you play every Yakuza game but still pronounce it that way?
