Love Letter I sketched this song at 26, completed it when I was 28, and “even” gave it to another artist. It was the first time ever since I started composing that another singer sang my song. [T/L note: Previously IU only wrote lyrics for others’ songs, like Cherry B’s “Her” and Jung Seunghwan’s “The Snowman”, Seulong’s “The Moment” and Sam Kim’s “When You Fall”.] Last year, I went on KBS ‘Sketchbook’ and sang this song, which gave me the opportunity to work with Jung Seunghwan, who is a singer I admire. When we were working together on this song, I briefly explained to Antenna and Jung Seunghwan about (my plans) to release this collection of my pieces and earned their consent to release the song. I wrote the lyrics based on the scenario of one half of an elderly couple leaving the world first and writing a final love letter for the other half who is left behind. If Jung Seunghwan’s version is more calm and refined, I wanted my version of ‘Love Letter’ to be delivered in a more straightforward manner. The arrangement of the song is fairytale-like and lovely, but I tried to make the vocals sound solid and the song was comparatively easy to record. I also tried to vary the ‘da-o’ part each time it was repeated throughout the song. The last part of the lyrics, ‘I am still there, remaining in your heart, more than anywhere else’ became the seed of the last track ‘Epilogue’ in my 5th album ‘LILAC’. It’s also something that I want to tell my fans that I am grateful for, who have known me for a long time, know me (for who I am) and continue to want to know me better. In between a novel and a letter, with this ‘Love Letter’ that I pressed my sincere emotions into and wish to send to those who love me, I close this collection of my (music) pieces. the lyrics are on another level, I have a feeling this song is gonna make history, but not only this one, the whole album gonna make history, to me, this is a perfect album. It's perfect all lyrics are WWWwoooooooowww and all the melodies are so ear-pleasing the title of every song is Wwowwww, sculpture as a title for the album is perfect. I love that she put them in one album, it makes the songs become whole.
i feel that this is the type of album that the mass public doesn't appreciate enough right now...but as time will pass they'll realize the importance of it all
I literally screamed when I heard this because she finally released it! Fell in love with this song when she first performed it in sketchbook. HUHU my heart is fluttering. I love you so much IU-nim!
For any Korean who is reading this, please help me with this question. Why is IU writing, for example 있다오 instead of 있소? I understand that these lyrics were written using 하오체, an archaic (nowadays poethic) speech level. But, as I understand, when using 하오체, vowel-ending verbs are followed by 오 (like we see in 기억하오). But, for those ending in consonant, I see that the rule is 소. So, I would expect to see 있소 or 없소. Then, my question is, why is she adding the 다? It is for the sound, so that everything rhymes better? In advance, thank you
@@Lily.0623 It is a grammar from old korean, but this style (politeness level) its named 하오체. Hanja are just words that have chinese origin and might be written in chinese characters (these are abolished in the north and sometimes used in the south for additional clarity)

She actually wrote this in old korean, so this not the current korean grammar. It is called Hanja as far as I know.
