      Same in KY... as much as I love bluegill they’ll get tossed out for some catfish but crappie go in the fryer

    Old timers around, always said crappie was the best flathead bait around. I've never used any tho, I like black(green) perch, skip Jack's if I can find them, and creek chubs. Love your videos.

    I hang my cutting board in the water, more scent in the water and helps clean it off a little. Here in Arkansas crappy for bait is a no no, I'm jealous lol. Really like your videos, Merry Christmas!

      You may want to check out the Buck Perry structure fishing book series or the Don Dickson RUclips channel. Both are excellent resources on learning how to read a contour map and understanding how fish will use structure.

      Jon Doed Structure is the bottom of the lake that is different in some respects than the surrounding bottom area. All bodies of water will have some type of structure. If you are serious about learning, the Buck Perry book series is going to be your best resource.

      I always like to have a bigger size bait out but I do tend to get bigger fish on smaller sections of bait once our water temps dip into the 40’s.

      I typically use 8oz when I am suspend fishing. Keeps my baits directly under me in 0.5mph current that we usually have here.

    Finally found a place out in Oklahoma that sells frozen gizzard shad. down in the part of taxes I live they are so scarce it's hard to find them. going to be trying them out day after Christmas.

      If gizzard shad are scarce, then they aren't the mai. Food source for your cats and you probably won't have great success with it. Figure out what bait fish your cats are eating and present that to your fish

    I notice all you use is the ugly stik catfish is it really a good rod?? I had two and the reel seat on one came unglued or something but I noticed i have a chad Ferguson whisker seekers rod and it looks like its built exactly the same plastic reel seats and everything.

      There are certainly better rods on the market but for $40, ugly stiks are hard to beat. I have a couple that are over 15 years old and still going strong after hundreds of trophy size fish.

      Kayak Catfish i paid almost a hundred dollars for my whisker seekers rod but, the one uglystik i have has caught fish the same size and bigger. do you use the 7 foot 1 piece or 8 foot two piece? Btw just got introduced to your channel and I absolutely love it!

    Always great videos but had a question I love suspend fishing, but up here in west Virginia kanawha river water temp is around 40 s .. seems like they quit hitting on suspend any tips

    Great trip for you, congratulations. I went out a yesterday and got shut out. Having trouble getting bait so I bought a 1/2 pound of live goldfish but no takers. We can't fish with game fish here so I need to find some gizzard shad to fish with or maybe crappie fish instead

      You can just look for obvious places like river bends, creek mouths, points, and flats. Those are always productive areas.

    Do you really need to be that deep? I just recently started kayak fishing for cats. I’m used to paylakes and do a lot of solo fishing and don’t feel comfortable anchoring out in the deep open water because of boat traffic

    The fish is saying, anytime you get a hook in your mouth and don’t get to eat.... it’s a bad day. Lol. (Except for that blue that got your bait anyway). I can’t believe you are using crappie for bait and not eating them. Tell me you at least kept one crappie to eat? Lol.
