My great great uncle enlisted into the Newfoundland regiment in 1916 at the age of 16, he was shot in the upper right side of his face in 1916-1917 where he lost his eye but went back to combat. In 1918, Not long after his 19th birthday, he was hit in the stomach with shrapnel outside of Amiens on April 12th during Kaiserschlacht, it was fatal.
The defence of Mons in 1914 would be cool. It was the first major action of the war and it was a battle where British troops were outnumbered. Although the British had to retreat, they caused more German casualties than their own. Britain had a total of 80,000 men and 300 guns against Germany's total of 160,000 men and 600 guns. Love your videos btw! Most in depth BF1 vids on RUclips in my opinion! :D
Westie is one of the truest BF youtuber out there! These history videos and weapon histories along with his regular contents has a unique flavor! Keep up the good work mate!!
May all the brave British and Germans who's blood has been spilt during the offensive Rest In Peace Nothing could ever come close to reenacting the horrors of the war unless you turn off the hud. Bf1 is the closest a human can get to setting foot on these grounds with gun in hand.
If you want the german pronounciation: Mick (Like in Mickey Mouse) - a (Like in gracias) - el (like the first e in elevator but long). Technically, it'd be Mich a el but I think, as english is your native language, you won't be able to make the german 'ch' sound.
amazing video Westie, truly i love these types of vids. makes playing the game that much more fun knowing the actual history and accounts behind the game. thanx bud!!
If I was a history teacher who was obsessed with bf1, whenever someone says I shouldn't be playing these types of game during school instead of teaching I would say,"No it is not a FPS, it is an interactive history lesson on ww1"
Thank you for acknowledging the history that this game is based off of. Makes me feel as if people really care to understand what was going on back then and aren't just playing the game because it's some cool FPS.
I hope all battlefield titles will implement an Operations mode to tell a story instead of a Campaign mode. Each operation tells a small piece of history and it works fantastic for both gameplay and story telling without being singleplayer. Who agrees? More resources for Operations and maps instead of designing a Campaign mode?
Maybe do a Vid on the Battle of Amiens which followed operation St Michael. It included the first uses of combined arms between the Air and Ground and the use of tanks on a large scale.
what if at the end of every game there was a stat that said how many deaths on each team and overall to show the bloodshed of that round. i feel like it would make sense and go with the theme and be pretty cool
loving the history lessons westie never really heard what happend in ww1 more about ww2 but this game has opened my eyes and your lessons are of great intrest thank you for theese keep it up please
I hope they bring operations like the 1st and 2nd Battle of the Somme; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Battle of Ypres, Battle of Cambrai; 1st and 2nd Battle of the Marne, Brusilov Offensive, major operations of all the Battles of the Isonzo River, etc.
Man, Kaiserschlacht sounds awesome as battle name. Keep it up this series Westie, it's amazing and I love world wars history. Make videos about other fronts, please.
increasing your map size in settings is one of the best things u can do, little tip cause your zoomed in a lot and can only see players (spotted) 20 Meters in front of u.
Just some added info : There was actually a main goal for the offensive ; to split the British forces from the French, surround them and push them back to the sea. Then, the Germans could have sent all their remaining forces against the French. That is why the first attack was launched against the British sector toward Arras and Amiens. When they were stopped by the British and Australians and failed to take the cities, Ludendorff ordered to bypass Amiens to the south ; but the French sent a counterattack and stopped the Germans between Montdidier and Noyon. After that, every other attacks were diversions in the hope the Allies would divert troops there so the Germans could restart their push forward near Amiens. Most of them failed but one. Like against the British in the inital attack, the stormtroopers managed to break through the French lines in the Aisne sector. Ludendorff then thought that if he pushed forward and made it seem like he wanted to take Paris, the French would immediately divert their troops helping the British to defend the capital. But Foch didn't fall for it, they held their ground and the Germans were stopped again at the second battle of the Marne. Now exhausted, with low supplies and no real objectives in mind, the Germans couldn't advance anymore. Soon the Allies would launch counterattack everywhere to retake the lost land and push back the Germans to the Hindenburg line and beyond. This would be known as the start of the Hundred days offensive and the end of the war. (Nota bene, this is during that offensive that some of the American divisions who trained since 1917 saw action for the first time, distinguishing themselves like at Belleau wood)
Hey +Westie, if you haven't already, I highly recommend checking out the book "Infantry Attacks" by Erwin Rommel. Yes THE Erwin Rommel. He was a Lieutenant when the war broke out and detailed the activity he encountered in a journal he then made into a book. This book is still regarded as a standard tactics manual for any army. I'm reading it right now, and it's clear that he was not only a masterful tactician, but a brilliant writer as well. I'm currently reading about his days in the Argonne, and it's fascinating stuff. Give it a look! And please keep up the great vids.
Not really. He said couple of things wrong.Like the Artillery bombartment for example. He said it was 1 Million shells, but the Hun from BF1 says that it was 3 million.
Your history videos are top notch. I'd love see one about the Battle of Caporetto and the surrounding campaign that saw the Italian 2nd Army fall apart.
Samuel De Oliveira trust me verdun in not that interesting really, just a massive waste of german and french lives (ikr pretty much hole ww1 was a waste of lives)
Awesome video as always! I'd love to see you make a video on the third battle of Ypres, or otherwise known as Passchendaele. Its one of those battles that truly shows the horrors of world war one.
I think you should do a video on the events surrounding the Oil of empires operation. The fall of Fao's fortress, the ottoman crossing of the Sinai desert etc.
All Quiet on The Western Front (1979), i highly recommend this film it tells the soldiers story of the German trenches in WWI fighting the French. if you like WWII Cross of iron is also a good trench soldier story. :)
it'd be really cool to here about the battle in the Sinai dessert like historically about it instead of what the game gives us it seems like a huge moment in the war that maybe gets overlooked a bit by the other wars between the Germans etc
Thanks westie, I'm a massive history buff! I am very interested in world war one and knew lots soon after studying for hours... I think its great you made this. you should try the cambrai assault befor the german spring offensive or the battle for ypre, in flanders!
Waddup Westie! I've been watching since the Naval Strike DLC. I actually watch every one of your video's. So, you could say i'm a REALLY big fan! Much love(no homo) -Damy van Delft.
Westie stop calling the British, French etc. the Allies, they weren't called that during the Great War instead being called the Entente Powers and the Central Powers (Germans etc.). In the Second World War they were the Allies and the Axis!
loving the history videos man
BFViking loving* i believe
Dham909 yea auto correct is retarded
BFViking got rid if that john years ago
Are you sick today too?
Best thing about your content is that you don't exclusively use all the op guns and says that every other gun is trash like level cap
Ocean Man, take me by the hand, lead me to the land that you understand
Lvlcap is a whiney bitch exploiting the game's issues to attract 12 year old haters for views, plus his content is wank
Ocean Man I see you everywhere in this comment section
Lol crying about someone crying, how ironic.
so basicly the germans had a bad squad leader, marking no objectives and wasting all the points...
kodemasterx the Austrian Hungarian forces had an even worst leader. Conrad Von hotzendorf. Think that's how you spell it
kodemasterx most accurate comment
Elitist Prince Dizzy ja
Not sure if you're talking about the topic or the gameplay.
Who agress Operation Kaiserschalcht is the best operation map in the game? :D
Tactical Turtle ya definitely
Tactical Turtle I like iron walls
Tactical Turtle iron walls is better

I'm Triggered Well your History teacher isn't very good is he?
Watch the great war channel
XtraGamingHD did you just assume his/her gender
I'm Triggered so true
My great great uncle enlisted into the Newfoundland regiment in 1916 at the age of 16, he was shot in the upper right side of his face in 1916-1917 where he lost his eye but went back to combat. I'm a simple person
I hear Portuguese and I instantly like the video
Keep up the awesome work

I want a video based of the Italian front operation that be cool

When westie real dream was to become a history teacher but he started playing battlefield
May all the brave British and Germans who's blood has been spilt during the offensive Rest In Peace
Nothing could ever come close to reenacting the horrors of the war unless you turn off the hud. Bf1 is the closest a human can get to setting foot on these grounds with gun in hand.
Jacrispy Mitchell Lol... Yeah ok
Edgy British Baby yep Verdun is the most accurate of a ww1 game
Operation michael, if that is how it is spelled it would be pronounced meek-high-ell, just so you know
+Dragonsfire gaming Thanks for the info bud 😀👍
Sorry, but it's completely wrong, what he wrote.
Have a look at my comment.
Have you ever even spoken german?
Not trying to offend you but it's simply misinformation.
If you want the german pronounciation:
Mick (Like in Mickey Mouse) - a (Like in gracias) - el (like the first e in elevator but long). Technically, it'd be Mich a el but I think, as english is your native language, you won't be able to make the german 'ch' sound.
Dragonsfire gaming your a idiot
Your historical videos are my favorite. Keep up the excellent work Westie.
AWESOME!!! Love these battle recaps Westie! Keep em coming!!!
amazing video Westie, truly i love these types of vids. makes playing the game that much more fun knowing the actual history and accounts behind the game. thanx bud!!
This history video was spectacular, please do not stop doing so.. Very well done and I as a history student you were correct on the content.
i love how you pull the history from battlefield 1. so amazing!
Battle of Vittorio Veneto/ The Iron Walls, please?
It's strange how Germany gets so powerful and then makes one mistake and loses an entire war.
a Good theme to talk about a think, as italian, is the italian Counter offensive and the victory at Vittorio Veneto, against the Autro-Hungarian army
Love these little historical blurbs you do m8

MuscledRMH I agree that would be sick

Maybe do a Vid on the Battle of Amiens which followed operation St Michael. It included the first uses of combined arms between the Air and Ground and the use of tanks on a large scale.

I really like how you try to speak these words!
Nice video once again Westie :)
Man, Kaiserschlacht sounds awesome as battle name. Keep it up this series Westie, it's amazing and I love world wars history. Make videos about other fronts, please.
The storm troopers did not get orders they actually decided when they went into the enemy trenches
increasing your map size in settings is one of the best things u can do, little tip cause your zoomed in a lot and can only see players (spotted) 20 Meters in front of u.

Awesome video as always! I'd love to see you make a video on the third battle of Ypres, or otherwise known as Passchendaele. Its one of those battles that truly shows the horrors of world war one.
Love you Westie
I think you should do a video on the events surrounding the Oil of empires operation. The fall of Fao's fortress, the ottoman crossing of the Sinai desert etc.
there is no allies in ww1 but entente vs central powers, ww2 allies vs Axis
Great hearing about the history of WW1 but even better hearing the planet earth 2 soundtrack :D

All Quiet on The Western Front (1979), i highly recommend this film it tells the soldiers story of the German trenches in WWI fighting the French.
if you like WWII Cross of iron is also a good trench soldier story. :)
1930 version was better.
Hipster.
Its All down too personal preference.

HI WESTIE I AM MOVING BACK TO BF4 SINCE I AM GETTING BORED OF BF1 BUT STILL WATCHING UR VIDS BEEN HERE FROM 80K BOI.
Do the Battle of Verdun! if you have not already.
Do the Somme, probably one of the most brutal battles including the development of tanks.
Great vid
This made me want to play battlefield again
A video about the fights in the alps between the italians and Austrians (battle of isonzo) would be nice!
it'd be really cool to here about the battle in the Sinai dessert like historically about it instead of what the game gives us it seems like a huge moment in the war that maybe gets overlooked a bit by the other wars between the Germans etc
Thanks westie, I'm a massive history buff! I am very interested in world war one and knew lots soon after studying for hours...
I think its great you made this. you should try the cambrai assault befor the german spring offensive or the battle for ypre, in flanders!
Hey Westin you should do a loadout series like LevelCapGaming

hey westie, can we learn about the battle of Verdun because of the they shall not pass dlc coming out?
I think you should do one or two of these about Belgium as it was complrtly destroyed by the war
is it me that westie has a historic voice
Ludendorff was dead before the war began. He orchestrated the original offensive on France in 1914
Sam Hargrove football
That was Schlieffen

Wouldn't it make sense if he did Verdun as "They Shall Not Pass" is coming out soon
Do the battle of Verdun!!!!!!! Great video, thanks.
Westie stop calling the British, French etc. the Allies, they weren't called that during the Great War instead being called the Entente Powers and the Central Powers (Germans etc.). In the Second World War they were the Allies and the Axis!
Have you read Journey's end by R.C Stiller Westie? It is set in this moment of time (Kaiserschlat)
Should do Conquer Hell next!!
Battle of Hamel - the turning point of the war
