Bernie, we love you. If you regularly get hiccups, please call your doctor and get checked out as regular recurring hiccups can be a sign of heart trouble. We want you to be around for another 40 years supporting us with your great equipment and knowledge!
There's literally nothing bernie doesn't know about anything to do with auto diagnostics. An absolute master in his craft. Its way above my technical knowledge however still great to watch him decipher this technical diag.
Poor Bernie, we need to hook that scope up to him and diagnose those hiccups. They'd probably produce a cool pattern - red channel on his diaphragm and yellow on the pressure transducer in his mouth. I felt every one of 'em. Seriously though, God bless this good man. He's a national treasure.
Just the way he navigates and commands the scope is impressive. It’s always great when I see another Bernie video released. The understanding of the data shown is mind blowing, there truly is only one Bernie Thompson, no one comes close to reading scope data. I love my Escope, it’s super rare here in the uk. I hope your health is better than all of our genuine concerns Bernie, as others have said, better get it checked.
Great find..! I'm a retired mechanic, and I can tell you that you really need to understand how this system works to make a proper diagnosis.! Congratulations to Bernie, and Wayne..!!!
I love how well you know your scanner/scope and how you make it look easy to find out what is going on. I really like the ATS computer and how it can show so much information at the same time.
FYI for the viewers: Bernie misspoke at 13:28 by saying "The white is the UD solenoid." This is actually the OD solenoid. I am not criticizing Bernie in any way, I am trying to save viewers the 30 minutes of head scratching I was doing trying to figure out whether the tranny was in 3rd gear or 4th gear.
We love you Bernie! Your wisdom, your software, and your dedication get total respect and thanks! I hope you have a wonderful protege to take over making videos when you start your well-deserved retirement.
Excellent diag! Some of these electric transmissions definitely get confusing when having to decipher what is happening with the fluid when things are happening. The hydraulic diagrams and knowing how to read them are necessary! Great job explaining it!
Amazing how Bernie analyze the problem and show us how things work. I appreciate your work and dedication to show us how to get the real data of a problem.
In my place people like Bernie Thompson are called "IDAN". Thanks for All you do sir, I pray God prolong your life and in good health and wisdom. Pls give us more Transmissions Videos sir. Thank you sir.🫡🫡🫡🫡
Thanks BT you are a legend !. With the newer ZF transmissions that use the mechatronics built into the transmission case there is no way to hook up a scope to them making them way more difficult to diagnose.
Excellent Video 👍. Would love a follow up, at least on community page. Sounds like BT had several hours invested in this diagnosis; I wonder if he charged real time for this diag?
I’m usually satisfied with all of your diagnoses. Been watching you for years. I’m not so sure I’m satisfied with this one. Why would this leaking plug be intermittent and taking two plus hours to show up?? A follow up would be great. Thanks
That’s what I was thinking. Thought for sure it would have been a harness issue. Maybe two different pressure switch signal wires touching intermittently. Especially with multiple transmissions.
I miss the break out box. Hey Bernie how about a pc based break out box for pcm and ecm . Pc can arrange the pin routing based on the program for each pin
Very interesting video and very informative. One question; How do you differentiate if this was actually an intermittently grounding wire going to the pressure switch? We see that type of problem more often than you'd think (mice-itis or shafing/pinched wires). Thanks in advance.
I must've missed something... So, the valve body was defective? I mean, after the first rebuild, you tend to think this would've been replaced, or even better, the valve body would've been replaced first. I have to be missing something. Help me out.
@@Ponchofan400 Actually, I have seen codes take hundreds of miles to reoccur (2006 Corolla P0420). There is another youtuber called scannerdanner that had one take over a year to come back. A year! I believe temperature has a lot to do with it. Heat soak. And the pcm strategy is if it sees something on it's latent stage of failing, it will continue to test it till it either passes it or fails it. This is exacerbated if it is a two trip code. What I don't understand is why the valve body wasn't replaced in the first place? It is commonplace to replace it, especially if a rebuild didn't fix the concern.
@@clampingdiode I get a code taking time to set. I have an issue with the scope not seeing that pressure switch come on for over two hours with a leaking plug!! Get what I mean?
@@Ponchofan400 Ah yes, I now get what you mean. Maybe it took 2 hours for it to fail? I dunno. Yes, the scope capture is the whole point of this video. I went to the video again and saw what was 'most likely' leaking. So, based on data, it took 2 hours for the plug retainer to leak and cause the concern. If it leaked constantly, the scope would've shown it, and it would've had the concern (code and limp mode) much sooner. Be interesting to know what this plug retainer is made of. Bet the engineers revised it for the future models. Edit: and I wonder if there is a TSB pointing to this? Maybe not as I think the other shop(s) would've caught it. Update: did find a TSB for this code (P1776), but it was for a reflash which would've been done w/ the new TCM module. Edit #2: I am going over the video again to see what I possibly missed, and sure enough, the 'solenoid pack' was replaced. It still brings up the question...was this in conjunction with the valve body??? Far from being a trany expert. It was hard to follow.
@@clampingdiode Thank you Sir! I hope we get an answer. Is it the plug or not?? I wanna know if it’s truly fixed or not! Sounds like a ton of money and time has been put into this car.

very true we need Bernie around for a long long time..The Best!
@bobjoseph8819 Hi Bob,
I remembered that as well, hence my decision to send the message to Bernie. I do hope he reads it.
There's literally nothing bernie doesn't know about anything to do with auto diagnostics. An absolute master in his craft. Its way above my technical knowledge however still great to watch him decipher this technical diag.
My cardiologist brother said the same thing!
Y'all need to focus and keep any comments that aren't diagnostic related to yourselves before he shuts down the comment section for good

Fixed L/R pressure switch codes many times by repairing the switch valve yes they get lots of wear. Multiple companies make repair kits.
Great video Bernie!!

Bernie go to hospital your hiccups could be serious!!
Me and my nvg 3500 siting here watching this video laughing our ass off.

That’s what I was thinking. Thought for sure it would have been a harness issue. Maybe two different pressure switch signal wires touching intermittently. Especially with multiple transmissions.

Good day today Bernie teaching
South Main sent me over, great video. Did they get the jeep fixed?
You too can get these results in your shop. Just dial 1-800 ATS.
Hey Bernie! If I only knew what you forgot over the years…..
Did the trans shop fix the trans issue after the diag?
Thanks again Mr. Bernier, I hope that you are weel and safe 🙏🙏.
any follow up from transmission shop on the diag?
I wonder why did they guess so many times???? Diagnosticly blind as a bat I guess great video 👍♦️🅰️🇺🇸

Hi
I thought you said the dealer replaced the valve body with a new factory part
I think it was just the solenoid pack and not the complete valve body.
👍👍👍
My brain just went into default mode!
Bernie please visit the doctor these hiccups could be fatal
Should have just put a valve body in it and problem solved
the other technicians dont use a scope so its a shitshow to say the least- long live the king!
Uffffffffff🥋💯
Your equipment is for a certain market maybe you can get the price point down for the masses
Those hickups arent normal, id definitely get it checked out by a doctor very soon
Bernie, Sorry to hear about what the covid vaccine did to you! The automotive industry cant afford to lose our smartest tech!!
That's why your the master..
