was happy to see you pop up on my feed. But after all these years in the solar industry ( 15 ) I can say running a good generator and charging some good lithium batteries is still a hundred percent cheaper a more echo friendly

Hope you don’t mind, I get unreasonably excited when I see your notification pop-up. Good to see you again. Now that you’re in a house what is your ultimate goal as far as your solar plans are going. Are you trying for completely solar to the point that your monthly electric cost is zero? Or just supplemental? I’m looking forward to this series.

Before anyone goes solar, as an MSEE, I advise them to optimize the efficiency of their home FIRST. This include triple pane or better
storm windows. Maximum your homes insulation with as much as you can afford. Optimize all appliances. Then do a power audit by a registered PE to determine your needs. Remember, your needs dictate your requirements.

I was going solar, picked up over 2k in panels an outback charge controller, and inverters, unfortunately my MS started worsening and I never hooked anything up, all new in the box,,ONE day maybe I'll break it all out. Great video Pippi. I have a home work assignment for you. Learn what power transformers do. With this knowledge you can see how high voltage, low amperage applicating such as earth batteries and aural antennas can be put to real use.

I am looking for a second property that I can be off grid in. I will use hydroelectric power and solar for the electrical system and a wood burning range in the kitchen and have propane as a backup. Hoping to buy in the next year in North Idaho or Western Montana. I'd love to collect water and filter it too. But one step at a time. I wish more of us would go independent with power.

I understand all her words but put together I just have a stroke. This is why I haven't really looked into solar too much. My 🧠 just can't comprehend it all.
I'm interested in seeing how far you go with off-grid - if you mean you're fully disconnecting from the electric utility. I'm planning in next few months in going 100% off-grid with solar power as well as harvesting rainwater, growing food garden, cooking with solar & wood, and recycling and mulching almost all waste materials.

Typically panels are hooked into the power grid so that excess power is returned to the grid which lowers the monthly energy cost or eliminates it, at least that’s how I understand it. Curious if that’s how you’re setting yours up?

I encourage Everyone to search & watch videos on the dangers of solar.
Maybe a safety protocol list is needed if things go wrong & a few extra safety products on hand?
If you get a tiny shock while on a ladder or roof (rv or stix&brix) you could fall to death very easily.
Having a way to cover panels in emergency might be wise too!?
Now days Entire parking lots are covered in solar but no warning of electric shock?
