    Headphones are a massive massive security blanket type thing for me because I have to catch the bus and if I don't have them then I overthink my entire existence on the bus like my body language and how my clothes look and how many people are around me and whole bunch of stuff so having headphones helps to take me out of that space for about an hour or so until I get to college. This is a really good video because it's really helpful :)

    I have anxiety about the weirdest things when I'm at school.
    1.) weird pencils. Idk what it is.
    2.) getting my phone taken away.
    3.) assignments in general.
    4.) substitute teachers. The give me weird vibes.

      Substitute teachers are awful! I feel you! They don't know my 504 plan so I get called on (I'm not supposed to be called on if I'm not raising my hand), etc. and it's really scary because they don't know you and you don't know what to expect.

      Cayla Monachino My school gave me permission to chew gum if I don't blow bubbles and other people don't see, and when I have a sub, I get in trouble. They won't let me have my weighted vest and they don't let me go to the nurse to get my anxiety meds, just because they don't know, everyone yells and takes advantage of the sub and it's really overwhelming. When I get overwhelmed, my meds help a lot, and they also confiscate my fidgets saying they are toys, and when I try to argue that I have sensory issues and I need to stim (it's not just an autism characteristic, it's also found in people with sensory issues, and without my comfort objects, I just am on the brink of tears, and I've tried asking for breaks, and they say no, so I have to use my precious passes to get to the bathroom for five minutes. I have considered running out of the room so many times, because it just is so overwhelming and it's hard because I need sensory input and if I don't have access to my meds or breaks, don't tell me I'm being dramatic, because it's actually really hard when you don't have your special needs figured.

      Willow Unicorn your not being dramatic at all it's happened to me before but it's a little different I have anxiety and some teachers have yelled at me for doodling but my mom has emailed my teachers countless times that I can doodle and it's ok for me to do so It drives me insane when teachers don't know that and it's also in my IEP so like can't they just remember that I can doodle

    I get so anxious at school because I don't want anyone to talk to me but if no-one does ten I feel anxious because I feel that people are judging me ugh it's an endless cycle

    i got in trouble for having pads fall out of my bag because a teacher said it was "inappropriate and filthy" :/ the school did nothing.

      my teachers dont get mad at that. its when i start to rip it up as i try to not scratch myself. then they get mad at the paper bits.

    I always bring stuffed animals to school. Saying that, I'm a teenager. But it helps. Having my little friends right there on my desk beside me. My teachers this year don't seem to notice, and my classmates seem to get a kick out of it, so yeah

      I have small plush charm attached to my bag and I love to play with it. I’ve just ordered a squishy charm because it is soooo relaxing to squish them and my anxiety has just gotten so awful since 2016 to the point that it made my suicidal thoughts even worse than they used to be and I tried to kill myself last year so I hope it’ll help lessen it.

    What I like to bring with me at school, is a notebook with pictures of all the persons and things that are important to me. For example, friends, music bands, tv-shows, pictures that are beautiful, lyrics, motivation quotes,... That really helps

      I love that idea! It's great to have something with you to remind yourself of all your favorite things in life so when you look at it it reminds you of happy memories. :)

    School is a killer right now it has me in a noose. Its exhausting with the workload and none of my friends are in any of my classes or lunch so im basically alone. My mom tellls me to make friends but she doesnt know how hard it is for me with all the anxiety. Lately I struggle so much with finding meds that work and therapy which isnt helping. The teachers also dont considerate students needs individually so for me ill be dying inside while the teacher is yelling bc we dont reach high expectations. I try man i try but its tiring and im so sensitive. Im glad to have seen your video.

    I used to write so much in middle and high school because of all the ANGST. I would always bring a journal around with me. I also like the planner, it helps me so much to know what's going on! Although I haven't been using it. D: Lol, this is so helpful! Great video!
    By the way, I have very similar shoes to the ones you showed! Oh Kristen, you have such great style! :)

    I think this list was really cool and did have stuff that was good for mental health, but a lot of it was just usual school stuff. But, that could very well be because we cope in different ways. For example, your journal is incredibly helpful for you. When I'm in school, thinking about my feelings and stressors makes things way worse. When I start to have a hard time, my best bet is to try to distract myself and channel those negative feelings outward for as long as I have to in order to get home. I need to be by myself in a safe space to process that shit. If it's at the beginning of a long day, I try to find someone in my support circle to talk at me for a little bit, at most. So what I bring is all about prevention/comfort and distraction.
    Things I use to help with my depression and anxiety at school: tiny stuffed animal (it can be on a keychain, but I bring one of those little tsum tsum guys because squishy), sunscreen, little snacks, charger, a piece of paper with emergency numbers on it (aka what if I need to call my mom, and yes I am an adult), hand lotion, wipes for sticky hands (I REALLY hate sticky stuff), tissues, PLANNER, a spare pen somewhere that isn't in my pencil bag incase I somehow forget that, sunglasses bc what if I cry, and a sweater during the two weeks it is actually cold in California. Also, your pad thing is a VERY important point. If you get periods or have friends that do BRING PADS. I can not stress this enough. Nothing can trigger anxiety and embassment quite like having your period when you aren't prepared- saying that one from very personal experience.

    I'm going into high school next week and I'm really anxious because it's a new school and I'm scared about my scars showing and being around a ton of people because my anxiety has been so bad these last few weeks. this video really did help and I just want to say how amazing you are and strong you are and how much I look up to you as an individual. do you have any advice for started high school with depression and anxiety. because the time of year where I hit lows is during school.

    I heard somewhere that ripping paper helps relieve stress and anger so a few years ago I got the urge to self harm in class because something made me angry so I began ripping up paper and making really angry scribbles but my teacher yelled at me for "being childish" so after I dug a pen into my leg under the desk (she wouldn't let me leave class), I really hate that teacher

    When I have panic attacks it always helps for me to squeeze something really hard or pull on things. It helps relieve some of the pressure my body is going through. I always thought stress balls were taboo but I'm gonna try one out :) Thanks for the tips!

    I'm a big artist so I always have my sketchbook with me and my felt pens because they work just like paint 🎨 and I always have rubber bands on me because I try not to self harm so I ping them on my wrist. It helps a lot

    I've always taken a sketch pad to school I'm not really allowed to draw in it in class but I do anyway because it helps me calm if I feel anxious as I do quite often I just doodle or write quotes

    a journal helps me a TON, because whenever I was breaking down or something I would just splurge all of my feelings in my journal and it would help

    One thing I do when I feel depressed is I draw eyes in my school books and if I’m stressed or anxious I draw teeth and that somehow helps 🤷🏻‍♂️

    thank you so much for this video! I'd love to see more mental health-school related videos because I am going back in a few days and trying not to breakdown, I am also trying to be more organized because last year I was so stressed out about coursework it really impacted me negatively.

    These are pretty great for work too. I carry a backpack in lieu of a purse and always have earbuds, a sweatshirt, extra meds (my antidepressants...you never know when you're going to get stuck somewhere...I keep a few doses in both my bags, anxiety meds, stomach pills and pain meds), pads, pens, my wallet, my journal and usually a novel. I try to also have something small to eat on me in case I start feeling sick to my stomach...because a snack usually helps.

    I also like to keep some candy with me to lighten my mood slightly when depressed days roll around the bend. It's really good to keep some small hard candies so you can quietly suck on them in class or home room. Always calms me down when I need to cry

    My best friend gave me one of her tank he's and honestly it has helped me so so much. I get anxious beyond belief in school, especially in lessons and it really helps to have something to have your hands moving with.

    Last yr in school was the start my mental health went down for the worst, 8 months later it’s still effecting me even outside of school but no one knows what I’m going through, multiple times last yr I almost ran out of class coz of the amount of breakdowns was destroying, I’m anxious that it will carry on, still waiting for the worst

      You know what's really annoying? When you can't escape drama at school because there's a lot of drama in class and then more from your friends at lunch. I have a lot of problems with a majority of my friend group but everyone else at at school either doesn't notice that I exist or think that I'm an embarrassing outcast. so kind of hard to make any new friends. There are people who talk to me just out of pity for being an embarrassing outcast, but that's annoying because I feel like I'm just wasting their time, I know a pity "friend" when I meet one but they all think I don't notice. I hate school! Man, this comment changed topics quickly.

    Thank you. This really helped me. I too write stuff in books. I have a lot of anxiety that comes with my autism. Although when I write things, my teachers shout at me for not paying attention.

    such a good video!! and this year im going to actually try to use my school planner more so then i dont get stressed that i have forgotten to revise or forgotten to do homework etc! and i aleays have sprays aswell ( dont want people thinking u smell gross) and lol the thing about the chewing gum is sooo true people who dont even speak to u normally suddenly want to be your best friend just to get some gum! :) and i normally do bring a journal to write things down like if i get angry and im annoyed at a teacher instead of saying my rude sassy answer back to them i write it down so then at least its out of my system :) ahh first day back on friday :( where the hell had my break from school gone? it went welll to fast!!

    I’m going back to public school this fall after nearly two years of being in a private school. I left public school because of anxiety and depression, and school is a major issue when it comes to my social anxiety and depression. I hope this will help me, I’m going to keep all of this in mind when I go back to school shopping. :)

    I make sure I take food to school but I throw it out at lunch, because my friends always check if I have food and if I don't then they make me eat and that triggers a panic attack so I basically lie to them

    You are so true about gums haha. When I take out gum just for a second then everybody in my class wants it and my gums gone in a day

    i usually bring headphones and some sort of fidget toy or a book to distract me if i have a panic attack during school, having something you can take your stress or anxiety out on is great, especially when you cant get out of class :)

    Thanks so much for this video! I'm gonna be going to my first year of high school after summer, and there are a few things in here I didn't think of myself. I'm gonna have to narrow it down to basic stuff, though, because for me having too much stuff gives me anxiety, (it sucks that I'm not a very organised person) but I can definitely combine the notebooks into one and just use the one binder for all my subjects. I'm hoping high school will be a fresh start since I'm in a better mental state now. I know I've got this channel to turn too for whenever times get hard again.

    the only time I ever get anxious is during school. I get so scared of turning things in, forgetting things, losing things, drama, ect.

    When I'm anxious I move around a lot and shake so I'm leaning sign language so i have something to do with my hands and it's also a good thing to know incase you meet someone who is set or hard of hearing. If i don't have to take notes I'll copy what the teacher is saying in sign language or do it to whatever song I'm listening to :)

    A note book
    A sketchbook
    A little bag with a blade ;-;
    some kind of candy to scew on (Gum isnt allowed in my school)
    My bandana (in case its hot and i wanna roll up my sleeves, then i can put my bandanan over my cuts)
    2 pencil cases with thousand of doodle items xD
    and my nomal schoolbooks and notebooks

    Loved this video - so helpful! I have to have something to fiddle with so I use a velvet ribbon. Unfortunately many people don't understand and tease me for it but whatever because if I didn't have it I would have probably cried or had an anxiety attack so I can live with a bit of teasing tbh x

    thank u so so much !! this is very helpful, my ADD is untreated, i have no therapy or medication right now and i struggle a lot at school with organization and just keeping motivated and staying focused, as expected, and this is super helpful,,,, and haha i like having pretty things with me too !!!
