Ok Michael, thanks to Tom I have found another great channel to watch. I really enjoyed watching you extract those pins from the bucket, and you have a very comical way of talking to the camera as you show off your work! Not only is your work fun to watch, your quite entertaining at the same time! Looking forward to seeing some more of your videos. New subscriber here! Thanks, Adam
Hi Mike--Nice job getting getting the pins out. The next time you talk to this customer, you might want to mention that there's this great stuff called GREASE, and they might want to consider using it from time to time. -Chris
Hi Michael, LOL....great video, really neat to see shop/field repairs. I need to toss my high heat low yield rod and get some of what you are using, nice strong weld!
Hi Mike I love that Hydraulic puller that you have, would be very handy to have around. Also love the videos and keep up the good work. All the best. Peter.
Peter CCR ENG Hi Peter, Yes, the hollow cylinders are very useful for a lot of different applications, Glad you are enjoying the videos, and thank you for the positive compliments ! Mike
Salt is horrible, A few winters ago we had our Zx 200 stock piling salt and after about a month the salt had pitted the boom and stick cylinders. Requiring a complete rebuild... A cool trick that saved the undercarriage is Spraying diesel on everything, Diesel eats the salt .
Your videos are good training aids for folks who aren't quite at that level. Thanks for posting them because there is nothing like seeing a job done before doing it. If you don't already visit the Weldingweb, Miller, Hobart and Practical Machinist forums there are many sharp folks there to swap knowledge with.
Thanks Chuck, maybe we could come up with some sort of clever marketing pitch for a "super-duper-gripper" type welding rod and get rich & famous, available to You Tube viewers, like a preferred stock option deal Ha Ha
Looks like it's been working in the road salt. Sometimes the magnetic drill press method works good but its slow, but a carbon arc method works much faster.
Hi, yes, most of what it does is salt and snow duty, my mag drill has a very large base and would be a pain to have wrestled into a workable position on this job, but have used it many times, had this not worked, I would have exothermically removed them, thanks for the view.
Hi Jack, I don't as long as it's not so thick as to require any additional heat past the normal welding. sometimes if I'm working on a very thick section I will heat it with the dragon torch before welding. If I'm going to be hardfacing I always preheat, as experience has shown me it will peel of like a banana if it is not preheated. Thanks for the compliment ..... Mike
YOUNG MAN , NEED " SPRAY SOAK " LEAD OVER NIGHT FAIL OUT THE NEXT DAY , WE USE SPRAY SOAK ON PISTOL CYL THEY WILL BE HARDHEAD SOME , BUT SPRAY SOAK WORK EVERYTIME
Michael Reggie nothing worse than seized pins but what make it worse is that people dont think like us and try knocking straight through and make things worse seen it happen loads of times
What a great example of total neglect of equipment......I bet those grease fittings havent seen grease since it was sold to this customer. Was the maintenance guy sleeping on the job? I also wonder why you didnt spray a can of good ole PB Blaster in those joints before trying the extraction. I am amazed at what some good penetrating fluid can do to free rusty pins/bolts.
crazeyspivey Hi crazeyspivey, I think you are correct, there was grease, but it didn't appear to have gotten into the area it was supposed to have. The customer had tried all the traditional methods of penetrating fluids, heat and beat, etc. to get something to work, they called me in when none of that would work, and that all led to what you see here. Thanks for the comment ....... Mike
YOUNG MAN , I DON'T THINK THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE EQUIPMENT , I GUESS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS A GREASE GUN IS , I THINK ? NEED A TUBE GREASE PER GREASE FITIING SOMETIME
Too much verbage ! You keep repeating the same explanation over and over . Your vids are interesting to watch but more welding\fixing and less talking .
Sunday morning going through your old work, your doing things we don't get to see most of the time it's just get new parts your doing great
I like your show, It's very informative. And it adds to the evidence that intelligent life exists in New Jersey.
Hello Michael, you are a great welder! You inspire me!
All the best, Edgar

Hi Chris, Thank you for the compliment, I would explain about the grease, but I know it would be a waste of time and words, LOL.
Mike

Nice. Cant wait for the next one. Glad you are busy.
Very well done + well presented. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Jix, thanks for the positive comments, glad to be doing it

Hi Donald,
I think they started out mostly making the quick couplings and I guess the progressed into buckets and other attachments.
nice video like the way you explained how to. also love the rig
Hi Joey, Thanks for the positive compliments!
Mike
Nice work as usual.
Salt is horrible, A few winters ago we had our Zx 200 stock piling salt and after about a month the salt had pitted the boom and stick cylinders. Requiring a complete rebuild...

.
Nothing like pumping on a turbo muffler with an incompressable liquid to extract a corrosion frozen pin. Good work.
Very interesting thanks mate well presented good job
Thank you for the compliment Gary!
Mike

nice job. i like clever people
No, there is plenty of loose dusty parking lot sand floating around which I sweep to the wet areas like speedy dry and shovel up later.
YOUNG MAN , WHEN I WORK FOR I C RAILROAD , I PUT A TUBE GREASE IN THE BOOM PINS AND BUCKET PINS
@ Michael Reggie you do some good work sir...
needed heating on the end of the ram !! thats the bugger which is tight , and of course they never greased the poor ol thing !!!! bloody good video
Hi Pete, thanks for the compliment, it is appreciated!
Mike
Yo "Fleatbite"! Good video!
Thanks Juliet!
great video, love watching the messes you fix. what is that hydraulic cylinder tool you use a hand pump to operate called? thnx
Thank you, I'll do my best to video as I go.

I think a tri-pod would be a big help for your camera work
Michael you have your work cut out for you i do hope you succeed good video
Hi Timothy, Yes indeed, it was a challenge to get this all squared away, but it turned out pretty well in the end, thanks for the comment!
Mike
Michael Reggie Your welcome glad it turned out OK
Are you not worried about the leaking hydraulic oil eating the asphalt ?
beeeeuty. you have to love 7018
Nice!! When dealing with AR metal do you ever concern yourself with pre & post weld heat treatment? Thanks.
Hi Jack, I don't as long as it's not so thick as to require any additional heat past the normal welding. sometimes if I'm working on a very thick section I will heat it with the dragon torch before welding. Thanks, that salt is vicious, I'll remember the diesel fuel treatment.

what is the specification of this hydraulic cylinder?
Thank you, sometimes it's feast or famine
were buying you a tripod for xmas....lol
By default those axels/pins for the hydraulic cylinder should have threaded holes for extraction. But sometimes you don't have a choice..lol
was it a taper pin or ledge pin that only comes out from the top
Hi Andy, it was a straight pin, but only comes out the top, and the corrosion really made it a bad situation
Michael Reggie nothing worse than seized pins but what make it worse is that people dont think like us and try knocking straight through and make things worse seen it happen loads of times
can you do a vid on your sirvice truck and all the gear you got on it
Hi Brandon, I will try to get that together, a couple other people have asked me also. thanks for the view,
Mike

Ok, not total neglect on their part....they tried. I guess the salts were the winner. Great video you did.....I learned alot from it.
