- A flying shooting rescue platform game.
From arcade-history site:
The wonder kingdom is conquered by giant gorillas the player controls a hero pilot and your mission is to save the king and the royal family and his aides have been kidnaped and caged you must rescue and release them, dropping bombs on gorillas to knock them and catch with your plane all the characters, maneuvering through the maze stay alert to replenish your fuel tank and avoiding colliding with the environment to clear the stage.
This is from 1981 and it's such a visual treat for a game from its era! It's vibrant and colorful and the sprites are so beautifully cartoony in that way only Nintendo could make them.
this arcade version was never released. Only released on the atari 2600. the game did not make enough money during location testing so nintendo did not release it. parker brothers made the atari 2600 version in 1983
@@jayden6538 Oh, I'm well aware, hon. My comment was simply about the graphics, which were several steps beyond other games of the time.
3:57 "Damn it. I'll escape..."
😮 A bit cheeky for a Nintendo game!
At 9:19...
I heard a extra life tone. Precursors of the pause theme for Super Mario Bros?
A lot of early Nintendo games used that tone for an extra life. Similar sounds were used to denote earning a free guy in the original 1983 Mario Bros arcade game and Popeye, as well as many of the early arcade ports Nintendo did for the Famicom when it first came out in Japan, all of which predate Super Mario Brothers. Also the iconic main theme from Super Mario Brothers actually is based on the short tune that plays on the title screen for the Famicom port of the original arcade Mario Bros, which again, came out 2 years before Super Mario.
Don't sleep on 10:46 either
@@KaneRobot Yea...Donkey Kong arcade lol.
@@KaneRobot And the song at 3:52 is in Donkey Kong Jr.
@@ahrichards5241 More like the theme for Nintendo Pinball on the NES.
I love those death animations because there's stars ⭐ of Red, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Blue, Brown, Purple, White, and Gray! I love it so much! 10/10 right there!
3:54 - Before Nintendo became family friendly.
Remember when the Nerd thought Rambo on NES was the shit for having hell in it? NINTENDO did it first with damn, and nobody even remembers!
nobody even remembers because this arcade version was never released. Only released on the atari 2600. the game did not make enough money during location testing so nintendo did not release it. parker brothers made the atari 2600 version in 1983
3:54 "Damn"? IN A NINTENDO GAME? *FROM 1981!?*
yep XD
I thought that too.
BUT THIS IS A KIDS GAME
Rambo for the NES said "Hell" and I was somewhat shocked.
@@LewisZwarteLeeuwUS only in the first version. Nintendo censorship caught it and it was removed in the revision.
Now on Switch!
David Richard I thought it wasn’t until July?
no its not yet
Will this be revive with the Arcade games Nintendo is bringing? Hope so!
SM742 I doubt it unfortunately it was never released.
Not outside Japan, anyway! Wasn't successful even there!
kleyoni24 u beat me to it heh
haha as you wish
THEY FUCKING DID.
10:44
That theme sounds familiar. From Donkey Kong on the NES??
exact :p
Yes
Totally, and it's like an extended version which is cool!
@@ahrichards5241 IKR??
NES DK didn't come out until 1983 though. The arcade version was out the same year Sky Skipper was made though.
Who came here after learning Sky Skipper will release on Nintendo Switch next month?
kevin12567 me :)
So apparently, this game actually ran at 448p on real hardware? It seems like only the sprites could be hi-res, though.
Why is the background extremely blocky? It's not even 256x224, it's some resolution lower than that.
there was not enough memory for high resolution backgrounds, popeye uses the same graphics style but popeye was actually released in arcades.
the sudden music jumpscares me
and enemies can only be stunned in such an early game, impressive
10:46 also really? donkey kong theme and Damn it?
At 10:43, does it sound familiar?
Superpan21 sounds like an altered version of the song that plays in Donkey kong right before you start a level
0:01: Title Screen and Information
1:34: Game Start
2:23: Life Lost #1
3:54: Round Clear
4:06: Next Round and Round Start
4:26: Life Lost #2
4:58: Life Lost #3
10:00: ????
12:50: Fuel Low Warning
15:34: Life Lost #4
15:55: Round Failed
16:00: Game Over
16:03: Name Entry
The “round cleared” music sounds a bit like the title screen music from Nintendo pinball.
That track was actually arranged as the second loop clear jingle in the arcade version of Donkey Kong Jr. It's not Pinball but I can see why you say that.
Now I want Mr. You! in Smash Ultimate. :P
SaviorGabriel Yes Nintendo finally is bringing this game back
1) whatta charming game!! 2) the 2600 version is awful compared to this (but just okay for 2600). 3) the character says DAMN!! that's naughty!!
this arcade version was never released. Only released on the atari 2600. the game did not make enough money during location testing so nintendo did not release it. parker brothers made the atari 2600 version in 1983
Mario And All Smash Characters (Except Waluigi) Misses That Arcade Character
I feel like this runs on the same hardware as Popeye
Sky Skipper cabs were converted into Popeye cabs, so I would assume so
DodongoVideos Just because they were converted doesn't mean it's the same hardware, most Nintendo arcade cabinets (Donkey Kong, DK Jr., DK 3, Popeye, Mario Bros) are in the same conversion class
I just thought the palette and the fact that the sprites are double thr resolution of the background was similar to Popeye
That’s probably the case, as Popeye uses the same exact graphics style (detailed high-resolution cartoon sprites mixed with extremely blocky and low-resolution background scenery, and standard for the time pixel resolution on the HUD graphics).
you are correct
the gorillas look more like moles or badgers, honestly

I couldn't have said it better
Jeff Neiss I try, I done tried my very best!
Why did Nintendo games always have to have gorillas or something in them?! What's a gorilla doing in this game?!
the deltarune arcade game is rly weird
What a weird game
I am Mr. Me.
It looks fun
How you hitting walls and not dying?
classicgamr he hacked it so that he could go further into the game
debut of Donkey Kong
sure it looks cool but is it 1080 p and 60 frames a second -asking for a sont friend LOL
It's 60 fps, but not 1080p
@@ahrichards5241 thx but I was being sarcastic lol
@@ericdawson1088 i am aware, just letting you know that it actually IS 60fps, most old games are
@@ahrichards5241 very cool appreciate it, I'm not very good at jokes so idk if you knew that was my weak attempt at humor 😂
これお蔵入りになったんだよね…
3:54 😱😂😂😂
I never understand why nintendo did released an unreleased game like sky skippers on the switch online store, i know they want to try to get milk some money out of it but i say, why not put radar scope & sheriff on the switch online store instead???
Because both games were a success in japan .
It wasn't Nintendo, they only give the permission, it's a work of Hamster for their Arcade Archives series.
@@RicDreamlandAvalonwell that’s pretty strange.
dan it ill escape
why the backgrounds are like Atari 2600 graphics :D ?
Because it was made in 1981, during the era of the Atari 2600 (though the 2600 couldn't quite pull this off fully... the 5200 would have gotten much closer)
but look at the sprites they are detailed why not backgrounds ?
Memory constraints. There wasn't enough ROM memory available (for the price back in 1981) for detailed multi-screen backgrounds, so they had to use lo-res backgrounds to fit them in.
:D oh well, ok :)
the background is all text , but what about graphics? So this is contaminated mode text + graphics right?
BTW take a look this game Magi Duck it is very cool all text :) ruclips.net/video/XSl-AcmGbkU/видео.html

This is horrendously ugly, but I feel like that’s part of the charm.
