  • I have spent the last 4 days troubleshooting why my DJI Spark won't fly more than 80m before it loses signal and even returned home once. This is MY FIX and has worked for me, i hope this helps anyone else having the same problem.

Here in South Africa the 2.4GHz band will give you a Max spec range in non busy areas away from any interference (open areas), on the other hand the 5.8GHz band is okay for busy areas, less interference on 5.8GHz band, (might not be as good & maybe less range). Take in consideration, open view of the Drone, right positioning of the aerials facing the drone, RC facing the Drone at all times, away from Cell towers & Power lines, buildings with Cell & Radio transmitters/receivers on top of their roofs, just take it the way it is & don't change frequencies unnecessarily unless you really want to & you might risk losing your Drone in the process (RTH or GPS failure?). Enjoy flying your Drone rather in a good & large open space, take note of the above & test your range again. Happy flying & stay away from any interference...

@@DaniD25 I ended up using a USB cable from my remote to the phone which fixed the range issue. For my setup that's a USB-C to USB mini type B. Using Wi-fi to connect to the drone seemed to interfere with the drone's range.

    Hi Dave
So after experiencing the same problem I found out the reason for poor wifi signal. If you outside the USA then the wifi signal changes to CE (as you can see your 2.4ghz range is 1 to 13). CE is very poor wifi as apposed to FCC that the USA and a few other countries allow. (FCC would only show you channels 1 to 11 in 2.4ghz)
FCC is about 3 times stronger and thats why people get 1.5km plus range.
There are ways to fool the drone into FCC. Let me know if you interested.

      @@JohnJohnson-hn9fx
I will try keep this as simple as i can.
So basically you need to fool the spark into thinking you are in the USA to get the Wifi to change back to FCC.
Please note that you do this at your own risk and that it may not be legal in you country.
Watch this video which explains most of it and then go over the steps below it as he leaves out some important info:
      ruclips.net/video/Is7_btFs1G8/видео.html
1.Confirm if you are in fact in CE by seeing 1 to 13 channels as seen at 2:20.
      2. Download fake/mock GPS such as Floater.
      3. Allow Floater to override your real GPS on your phone by going to: settings> system> developer settings> set mock location app.
      4. Open floater and set location to anywhere in USA.
      5. Open DJI GO4 and it should notify you of Wifi region changes. Select OK and give it time it reboot. If it doesn't then check then map. If it still shows your true location then the drone is relaying your location to your phone so then try again but cover the drone to block the GPS signal.
      6. Check wifi channels are now 1 to 11. i.e FCC.
      7. Close DJI GO4 and Floater and turn off drone. It's very important that floater is not running going forward as you now need the true GPS location for your "return to home". Check the map on you phone to confirm the location has changed when you open the app.
8.Turn drone back on, open app and connect. You should see it notify you of Wifi region changes again. Very important that you select cancel from now on every time you connect else it will reset back to CE and you have to repeat everything again.
Note: If it doesn't give you a cancel option then you need to downgrade the DJI Go4 app to a slightly older version. Watch below video to explain how:
      ruclips.net/video/qmGtePu3rkU/видео.html
      I installed V4.3.16 apk
      Hope this helps

UPDATE Well great news, problem solved. My android phone was getting even worse, and on 2.4ghz wifi it would lose the signal, dropt out of wifi, and could not find the remotes wifi, and this on the flying field without interference.
I decided to use my Apple Air Tablet, what a pleasure over 700meters range, no video dropouts or lag, this without OTG cable. So problem solved. DJI is not friendly to Android phones My phone has all the specs that is required for the DJI Spark, it worked fine for a year, not any more.
I am now even more convinced that the Spark is best on IOS, not Android, Android will work for a while and then just give trouble, maybe even lose your drone

The best option is to sell the Spark and buy the Mavic, it has a different control system, not crappy wifi, and in Europe the Transmitter is on low power. The OTG cable has nothing to do with range, just for video connection between TX and phone, that's how low the output is from the TX. I fly RC planes and before flying you do the range check with the TX, you have to push a button on your TX to reduce the power, at that power level your Spark TX work which is nothing. I do not understand why DJI does this, I have cheap Chinees drones that have standard over 300meter range

@@jannevanheeswijk6026 I bought my Spark form a Guy. in Amsterdam, who, on his first flight tried to fly indoors, and crashed it, broke the camera. I got it for 150euro, fixed the camera, and it was fine. Then I bought a combo set that had also crashed, also camera broken, for 200euro, I kept the remote and 2 battery's and sold the Spark for 200 now I had a good working combo set for 150euro. I went to South Africa for holiday and all was fine until I got a update for the Spark, and that is when all went wrong with my Android phone, thank you DJI. Some say you must put the Spark back on the older software, but I am afraid to do that now the Spark is working perfectly on my Apple If you do not have a Apple phone or tablet, see if you cannot lend a phone from a fiend and try to fly on that.
Money for me was also a issue, otherwise I would have bought the Mavic, much better, no wifi

I use the remote with flymore combo. My auto setting just goes to 2.4Ghz after a few meters because it knows the 5Ghz is crap so setting it manually wouldn't change a thing i don't think.
Also congrats on getting 500 meters, but they advertise it as 2 Kilometers. Pretty piss poor IMHO.

Try putting you phone in flight mode or at the least turning off your Bluetooth and wifi options in settings, apparently they don't like any WiFi signal as they interfere with the controller 2.4Ghz signal also If you are near power lines that also affects the signal. But for what it's worth I did exactly what was mentioned in this video, and had no routers or Bluetooth or wifi turned on and I got nearly 1.7km before I lost all signal and it did the whole returning to home thing, I never lost video signal either. Hope that helps a little more. Good luck mate

2000 meters is the max. It is really up to where you are in more remote areas there are less other devices using WiFi in the area. I have been to multiple places on this planet and I got up to 2500 meters in Sri Lanka while only getting 200 - 400 meters in Palma de Mallorca spain. There is some like mirror thing which you can put on your antennas that doubles your range.
