I believe by loosing the Drone u actually made a very helpful video as to what not to do with a Drone, compared to what all it can do - something which would be more relevant and useful for a first time user. Great video - Cheers.
You didn't lose it because of a weak GPS signal. You lost it because you didn't wait for the Home point to be updated. When you start up a DJI Drone, you should always wait for it to say 'Home Point updated. Check the Map...' When it lost signal, went up and flew away, it was because it was going to the last HomePoint it had confirmed. If you can imagine a straight line between where it flew off from and the last Home Point (if you can remember it), it will be on that line somewhere
Also, even if it rained the spark still could be OK. I saw some guy who dropped a mavic into a lake, after 5 days got it out, and it still worked. I think it could have survived a month outside.
Also, he obviously didn't read the manual. You can check where your drone is with the record and built-in map so you can walk over to that point and find where it crashed. It'll record the entire flight path so it doesn't matter if the drone is on or off. Complete ignorance with his complaints.
@@RileyBanksWho Your name and comment made me think of one thing ... Inbred dickhead. This is the problem with the world these days - "people" like YOU. SMFH....
I have your drone, Mr. Fisher. It's alive, for now. Whether or not it will stay alive depends entirely on you. I want $50,000,000 in unmarked bills and a helicopter ready to take me to the airport, where I have a jet ready to take me to an undisclosed location. I even smell a cop and the drone gets it.
First place I looked. But it was well above the building's roof when it decided to go on a flight, so we checked for many blocks along the vector. Hell, it could even be on a roof much further away than we searched.
Dude your drone is not lost. I’ve been using Dji drones since the 1st phantom & still own the magic pro, inspire pro ( black edition) & my latest addition the inspire pro-2. This is what I think happened 👉 you took off with a low signal warning meaning the bird didn’t have enough time to lock the home point so the bird try to go back home to the last home lock point which is by default the home pointing of the last place you flew the bird prior to the day you lost it.
Look, if he didn't read any directions or even bother to check a few videos on RUclips or on the DJI website than how would he know that? Maybe they need to program the drones to teach people how to use them before they will actually take off.
I have lost my Inspire1 similar way. But, the map of my controller still showed me the location of the drone. Because after the drone landed at anywhere due to lack of power, it was still in turned-on state. So, my controller could trace the signal (it was about 1km distance) and guided me to spot the point. I found my Inspire1 landed peacefully unharmed on the rooftop of a factory!
This is the best implementation of the ad I've ever seen. it's so relevant that it barely feels like it was an ad. And that's why I like him more than any RUclipsrs out there.
Oh man! I've had a $400 phone slide out of my pocket in a bus (LG Optimus G way back when), lost every single watch I have ever owned and even one time lost a memory card _that was in my hand_. But never have I seen a piece of tech fly away that defiantly from its master. If this is the beginning of the Robot Revolution then Michael Fisher will go down in history as the human who started it all...
I like how you deliver your narrative. Its like one of us for might lose it. thank you for reminding us that drones are not something you want to take for granted. I almost lose mine today but watching this makes me take care of my drone much better.
*Congrats on 400K!* *Your reviews are more like a story which keeps us in awe* *I still remember your interview with MKBHD back on PocketNow where you wanted to start something on your own*
It happened to me but thank God I could manage to stop its runaway and try to get him back. I even stoped listen to the propelers. So blessed, fortunate and relieved
Don't fly over close to the roof tops of big buildings. All the electronic components and elevator equipment on the roof will mess with the compass and make drone act crazy. Ask me how I know. lol
Why does Mr. Mobile have like 400k subs? He should be having more than a million, I mean his reviews are very interesting to watch, honest and professional opinions, and when you're tired from tech talk, he throws in a little sense of humor. This is some fine quality tech content, Kudos to Michael.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] sorry about the drone DJI should have also added solar panel to the top of the drone to help with the battery and a software update to tell the drone to ho back to starting point if it loses signal.
***** yeah nothing that a software update couldn't fix, the signal got lost when its was going up thats when the drone should have descended back to its location.
Wise words. I almost lost my Spark today using the return to home function. I was flying it when the battery got low, and the return to home initialised. I had a good GPS signal, so I thought I'd just let it find its own way back. However, it got hit by a headwind on the way back and obviously decided 'Welp, battery's nearly out, I'm gonna land here instead!' I watched it descend while crying 'Nononono stop that!' It then landed in a bunch of boggy tall rushes and mud because it hates me. To be fair, it did land safely and without a scratch, but I had to vault over a fence and squelch through a marsh to find it. Thankfully, I had the remote, and I could track its position, and I found it fairly quickly, albeit with very wet feet. The kicker? Due to the fact it ran out of battery while filming, the film was corrupt and unusable. Bah. So guys, don't let your Spark get close to running out of battery! It might decide to find another owner!
Yes, you can. There are two ways: if it has plenty of battery, you can use the 'find my drone' function on the home page of the app. This will make the lights flash and the drone will beep. If you have run out of battery, you can use the flight records that you can access under the 'Me' tab. You can replay your last flight and see the last recorded gps position of the drone. In the video above, though, this would not have helped, since they had poor GPS. The Spark was likely nowhere near where the flight records would say it was. If you get a poor GPS warning, bring your drone back MANUALLY and land it. Whatever you do, don't use Return to home with a poor signal.
There is a GPS "find my drone" screen with maps in the app - off the main screen (the DJI splash screen) in the upper right menu. This situation might have been one where GPS was lost. If that was/is the case, bluetooth sure isn't gonna do much good. I do think they should do the audio alarm, but then again in the city that may drive people crazy.
Thx for sharing your experience! I'm about to get one of these and you bring up some great points and tips to avoid the same thing happening to me. You're pretty humble to post this!
Great point. That's one thing I don't think of, is to always make sure you liftoff with a good signal so it can find its way home. I'll remember that. 👍
Maybe they should program the drones to be a brick until you pass an online test proving you know what the hell your doing before you try to review a product your completely clueless about.
There is a feature in the DJIGo app called 'Find my drone'. It gives you a map with your position and the (last known) position of the drone as long as it has battery and you can connect to it.
Really well presented video. I love your sentence construction and presentation skills. Also really great advice. So simple but I never thought about a tile or even putting my phone number on the drone! When my Spark arrives next week I will do exactly this. Great channel mate!
A really really good tip on how not to lose your drone is disable (or don't ever enable/be cautious) of the feature where "Home" changes on the fly wwhile you're moving. I was walking around with my drone and flying and before I knew it when the battery was running low, I sent it to home and i realized it had selected a very new home for me! (Which totally isn't the drones fault. I enabled that feature because it gives me more range and freedom, but yes, that's that's the one con) Be careful and have fun!
Dante Flores ehh maybe. U won't get all that much money from it and it als has better footage (the standard). But it also depends on what u are using it for. If for hobby but still want good footage, phantom 3. If only need is travel and simple selfies, spark.
Got my spark for Christmas. Thank God for cold cold days as I've been watching youtube videos for the past 3 days versus going out to fly the damned thing in the bitter cold. The end result for this 1st time drone owner is, A LOT of useful tips and information collected (oh, and a lot of additional accessories ordered, lol). Nice video.
As I drone pilot myself, I would recommend first buying a cheap drone before getting something as advanced as the dji spark, get some flight time in and learn to pilot a drone, learn how the weather can affect your flight, learn how the environment you fly in can affect the drone etc I noticed several mistakes, flying near buildings and trees, definitely a no no for a novice, wide open park or field and practise practise practise before you get too technical with your drone flight. Also remember your smart phone has next to no range especially in a heavily built up area full of wifi signals, so your drone will easily disconnect, fly out in an area with no wifi signals, you will find much better range even on a smart device, alternatively buy the controller, which is much safer. Also learn about the limitations of your drone, ie range, flight time, and how the gps and RTH works, also understand how to use the app and how to understand the information it is giving you, all the warnings are given to you, an advanced drone will tell you before the signal gets too weak, it will tell you when the battery is getting too low etc it will even warn you that there are not enough satelites for a safe flight! There is a 'find my drone' feature built into the dji app, not sure how that works but im sure there are lots of tutorials online. Enjoy your future flights and look after your new sparky. Fly safe....
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] there is a Find My Drone option in the DJI GO app! Go to the menu button in the top-right corner on the main connection screen, Find My Drone. Just a heads-up for next time :P
Thanks for taking your time to produce this tip! I'll be receiving a new Spark soon, and videos like yours are invaluable for noobs like myself! Seriously, thanks!
Darren Prest They are fun and you can take aerial shots with them. They're pretty cool. Every movie or tv show or spots you watch used drones at some point. Saying they're stupid is like saying onions are stupid because they're used in a lot of foods.
I'm sure whether I buy a D Brand skin or not, they'll be more than able to absorb the cost of this loss one way or another. Thanks for the humility and advise just the same.
U have to contact FAA btw when u crash and or lose ur drone. Other wise they can track ur drone back to u and fine u up to 300000 dollars or prison. (That is not a typo btw). Also if u didn't register it and place ur id number for the drone on it the same could happen. It is just above the weight minimum defining toy aircraft so it must be registered just like a phantom would. Also take his advice seriously. People who are ignorant like him (at first) are ruining this super cool hobby and/or job for everyone else and it really sucks. So pay close attention to the manuals and such and fly in unobstructed open spaces until u are able to fly well. Also don't be an idiot.
wopwopkross I guess they are a little harsh but this keeps idiots out of the hobby so that we don't endanger the public with drones crashing into people due to pilot error. U could say it's the drones fault but I own the phantom 1 from dji (it came out in about 2011 or 12 I believe) and I have yet to crash it. So the rules and laws from the FAA are completely necessary to keep this hobby alive. Thank god they are here bc they put Casey Neistat in his place after all of the fly away he's caused. (In the city that is where there are maned aircraft everywhere along with buildings and people so a flyaway can end very badly.$
Sorry about the lost Spark, but I went to the site for the skin from your link, I subscribed, and I Liked. I'm looking forward to more (and happier) videos.
I think this video would give really good insight for the DJI team to create more complete emergency situation features like you explained. Hope you could regain what you've lost, Michael. Cheer up!
DJI Go has feature called "find my drone" which you can use to locate your drone as long as it is turned on. So yes, it does have a locator built into it.
Great tips - I always put my contact info on drones and I use Tiles, for other stuff. I’m about to get a Spark, so this reminder is a point well taken!
I got a Dronekeeper mini from Nichetek Korea that beeps when it detects no activity/flight weights 6 gm liPo rechargeable battery or wire it to your drones battery. Stick it on with Velcro. Adds feeling of security
That same thing happened to me WHILE USING THE CONTROLLER. Now I’m scared of ever flying it in any type of setting that endanger the gadget, which completely defeats the purpose of having a drone in the first place. So frustrating!
Actually, the Phantom 3 Standard in some ways is cheaper because it comes with a remote, but you have to buy the remote separately with the spark. The spark is definitely newer and has more features though.
First things First: Put your phone number AND a FINDERS FEE!!!(Depending on the price of your drone, since it cost $499, I would put $40 or $50!! AND put a "BEEPER" that'll run on a single 9-volt battery........THIS HELPED ME A LOT, I have it on ALL 12-drones!!
Hey Mike good tips on Drone flying! Just bought for brothers B day. Looking forward to a future review from 50 meters above. Now that will be Fisher Fly By Review!
Bummer dude! Truly it is, especially when it's a loaner, but I just wanted to thank you for doing this video. These are some really good tips, and like you say, it sounds simple, but so many times, especially in a panic, we can forget or ignore those common sense things. I just wanted to say, that I just watched a video with a guy with a spark and he was able to use something on his ap that allowed him to find the drone. Maybe it was a firmware update he had, but you might look into it. It worked for him and he found his drone. Marc.
I ALMOST lost my Spark the same way. I had really bad signal so it returned "home". I found it about half an hour of searching and panicking later. It was hovering above the ground in a park I live close to.
Great video advise! thanks. You should try to stick the LOC8ING iBeacon tag on your next spark - it will allow you to look for it using only BT from multiple phones ( so that few people can look for it at the same time). the detection distance is about 200 ft in open space. i always fly my RC's with the LOC8ING tag as backup for any emergency.
If you look on the DJI app there is a "find my drone" option. In the option you can also tell it to flash the lights to help see it when downed. The drone will send you a GPS coordinates to its location. Its possible you did not have the latest software. Always make sure you have the latest before you fly. Always calibrate the compass if you are flying in a new location too. Cheers.
There is a function on the DJI GO 4 app which has "find my drone." It will show the position on a map and can make beeping noises as well as flashing leds
Thanks for the video. I will be taking the advice to label my drone. I think the tile idea is great. They only weigh 0.2 ounce! I am sure air density and other factors have a much larger effect on the drone from a battery perspective.
Always keep a visual on the drone. Most beginners love to fly the drone out far away until it’s out of sight because, well, it’s cool. But honestly, you don’t ever really have a NEED to take it very far to get the shot you want. Also, RTH is a cool feature but shouldn’t be used in a place with large structures nearby. Or in any populated area. You should always have the ability to fly the drone back without even looking down at the screen. If you can’t do this, you’re putting too much faith in the GPS, return to home, and other smart features. They are designed as a fail safe, not as a crutch to being an educated, skilled operator.

drone makers should put a radius control program in the drone so if a drone tries to run away it won't get out of the defined radius
There is an option in the dji go app that defines the max distance that you allow it to fly.
Nabeel Khan it have the radius distance limit, you can change in the app. But if the gps signal isn't good, it will fail anyway without the rc
It does have this :)

Amaizing
It landed on exactly the spot it took off from. I'm so happy with it. :-)
sorry for the lost of MrSparky, but there precaution for other from losing their drones, nice review and hoping youll reach the 1mil subs soon
Should I sell my phantom 3 standard to get the spark?
This was actually my first drone so I can't weigh in on that! But I'll have more thoughts on the full review.
MrMobile [Michael Fisher] 🤤🤤🤤 you responded. I didnt think that would happen
Dante Flores if you sell it save that money and put some more money into a mavic. way better than the spark. and its just a little bigger.
jr_1322 1322 You can't control a mavic with your hand.
Dante Flores ehh maybe. U won't get all that much money from it and it als has better footage (the standard). But it also depends on what u are using it for. If for hobby but still want good footage, phantom 3. If only need is travel and simple selfies, spark.
I wasn't planning on watching this cause I don't care about drones, but then I saw the title and knew it was gonna be hilarious. Thanks, Mr Mobile! :D
here comes the *robots are better pilots than humans* comment from dbrand
I lost my drone recently but thankfully I put my name and number on it.
i think the spark flew back to the company and now they are going to sell it again
Nice video.
it's on the building roof.
As I drone pilot myself, I would recommend first buying a cheap drone before getting something as advanced as the dji spark, get some flight time in and learn to pilot a drone, learn how the weather can affect your flight, learn how the environment you fly in can affect the drone etc
I noticed several mistakes, flying near buildings and trees, definitely a no no for a novice, wide open park or field and practise practise practise before you get too technical with your drone flight.
Mr.mobile isn't very mobile after all.
Fair and honest commentary. Well done!
Duuuuuuuuuuude. Time to hire a drone wrangler!!!
+ModernDad come on up!
Here's how not to lose one
..
Don't get one.
Anand Rao Why wouldn't you get a drone in 2017?
FAQUERETERMAX Because they're stupid.
Darren Prest tools don't think. Tools are only dumb as the users that are using them.
Darren Prest They are fun and you can take aerial shots with them. They're pretty cool. Every movie or tv show or spots you watch used drones at some point. Saying they're stupid is like saying onions are stupid because they're used in a lot of foods.
Anand Rao nays nays ay luv ze advays
Fisher Congratulations on the 400k!
P.S. I got all emotional as if I could really feel the pain of losing your new favourite toy💔
Lol, they can't figure out how to locate lost planes, let alone small drones!!!
Sa'ad Suleman mh370?
I'm sure whether I buy a D Brand skin or not, they'll be more than able to absorb the cost of this loss one way or another. Thanks for the humility and advise just the same.
captain "twodrones" anyone????
Everytime I get a Mr mobile notification I drop everything and watch
FAA sucks
wopwopkross I guess they are a little harsh but this keeps idiots out of the hobby so that we don't endanger the public with drones crashing into people due to pilot error.

MrYogibehr hmm. But is there a change on punishment for losing a drone and not reporting it?
It doesn't when you get idiots flying drones into apartment windows.
Sorry for your loss. Hope who ever finds it uploads the video on RUclips, would like to see where it traveled too.
Casey Neistat 2.0
Even in utter defeat.. ur script still does NOT fail to impress! my condolences to ur sparky Mr.drone-master!
Incredible video man as always.
Can't you check the flight log to see where the Drone set its home point?
Great tips - I always put my contact info on drones and I use Tiles, for other stuff. I’m about to get a Spark, so this reminder is a point well taken!
I got a Dronekeeper mini from Nichetek Korea that beeps when it detects no activity/flight weights 6 gm liPo rechargeable battery or wire it to your drones battery. Stick it on with Velcro. Adds feeling of security
It probably attempted to fly to the last recorded home point since it didn't have a chance to update the home point.
Great video despite your bad luck! Voiceover is perfect!
You can find the location of your drone using the track location on the app
MrMobile: Drone, come back.
Drone: I must go, my people need me.
In the dji app there is a drone locator that shows you where your drone was last and you can make it make noises and flash lights.
Hey Mike good tips on Drone flying! Just bought for brothers B day. Looking forward to a future review from 50 meters above. Now that will be Fisher Fly By Review!
Good tips. Thanks. We just bought a Spark 2 days ago.
Cheers.
Thank you for this. It really helps a lot for beginners like me in avoiding mistakes just as you did.
There is a function on the DJI GO 4 app which has "find my drone." It will show the position on a map and can make beeping noises as well as flashing leds
Very helpful video! Were you able to figure out why it flew away? Had the home point been set incorrectly?
