Great video, thanks. Full frame users should note the 50mm gives a field of view of around a standard 30mm lens. For most narrative work, shooting in tight quarters, etc, the 50mm is plenty wide. The 50mm and the 80mm would cover most of what you need for narrative.
Very much appreciate and I thank you for this! I own a Sirui mft set for my bmpcc 4k cameras, but also have a 6k and disappointed & frustrated they don’t make a full frame EF mount for it! Excited about the possibility with Great Joy by learning more about them before pulling the trigger for the 50mm.
Great video. Please, I need some information. I DO NOT LIKE TOO MUCH BLACK BARS ON MY FOOTAGE. I like the size of the black bars and minimal stretch this lens produced on your RED KOMODO footage. But, I want to buy a RED EPIC DRAGON 6K. I also would like to shoot with only the GREAT JOY 35MM and 85MM 1.8X . My questions are: Will I get the same level of the black bars in your RED KOMODO video??? Which setting do I use on the RED EPIC DRAGON to get the same black bars??? SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME INFORMATION. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the 35mm. Although the way you talk about the 50mm, it seems like you don’t consider the 60mm to be part of the set. Or am I misunderstanding? 😅
Hey Jay! You're right. The 60mm isn't considered part of this set. It was their first lens and I did like it a lot. It seems as though they took what they learned in making the 60mm and adapted/altered to make the subsequent lenses. I think you can still use the 60mm alongside the 50mm and 35mm but it doesn't have the same lens front diameter, the focus and iris rings don't line up, and it's not a 1.8x lens.
What do you think about using the 35mm on a S35 sensor.. i have a Z-Cam S6.., really want an anamorphic lens for it with PL mount.. I'm looking at this.. (35mm) , the Laowa Nanomorph 35mm, and the Vazen 40mm.. (but that Vazen one is $$$) The Nanomorph silver flare, is perfect, just wish it was 1.8x or 2x.. and concave.. The Great Joy and Vazen.. though 1.8x.. are meant for FF.. so im worried if that S35 crop in on the lens will effect any potential anamorphic fall off that i would have gotten with a FF sensor.. I know Vazen has a MFT version too.. but ehh.. I'm not trying to spend that much only to be settle for a MFT lens...lol,, tough choices
This is the first time I will be replacing lens mounts and using shims. Received the 35mm today and want to use EF mount but have never used focus charts to test for distance and focus accuracy. Any quick tips you can impart besides what was mentioned in your video?
How can I use this lens with the bmpcc4k will the mft mount work for me or can use with the speedboster plz help me tell me I am confused to choose Buddy thanks and love ❤️ from India 🇮🇳
Speedboosters won’t work with these lenses on account of the back protrusion. Also, the crop factor from FF to MFT would be pretty brutal. There are other anamorphic lenses made for MFT that may serve you better.
Nonsense. You can shoot a short on one lens. Either 35 or 50. Plenty of films been shot on 1 or 2 lenses. 35 and 50 both great. Don’t get stuck on things like “young need a full range of lenses to shoot of short”. That’s just nonsense and limiting yourself. You just want more gear
Which do you like the look of more, the 35mm or the 50mm?
35mm
I wish they had 40mm...!!!

Thanks for this, great video! Curious as to why you don't upload 4k?
So with the squeeze characteristics of the 50mm, is pulling focus an issue and would you have to keyframe the shot to keep it less funky?
great video - thanks !

Take your time. It’s worth spending a day on it and not rushing. Perfect is what you’re looking for.
35 mm would be my most used. I know as I own a 35mm anamorphic. Second would be 50 or 75mm.

i just can't take a company named Great Joy seriously LMFAO

Neither of them. Why? Because they're called "Great Joy" 🤣 just rent a cooke lens for 2 weeks 🤣 you'll thank me
Which cooke lenses ?
Looking at your channel, I can see you are a talentless rich kid.
