  • Fishing Planet DLC's. They're expensive, but still so tempting! BUT! This is why I don't recommend buying them. But, I still have a few exceptions to the DLC in Fishing Planet.

Me and some guys started playing this game some time ago. And this video explains it all.
We started around 5-6 guys. A couple of them got impatient and bought the Congo DLC and another one bought the Gold Pack.
The one who bought the Congo pack, travelled there instantly, and could not shut up about that level and what was good and bad (almost like revealing the ending of a movie noone else has seen yet), while the rest of us did not buy anything and was only on Emerald Lake.
3 weeks later, all the guys who bought DLCs and abandoned the game because they said it is boring, and the rest of us, are still playing and fighting our way though the levels and missions. :)
    TL;DR
If you like this game. Dont buy any DLCs.
But if you do, then avoid any DLCs that give you access to levels that are above your current level.
Its totally archieveable to reach max level without any DLC or Premium. Its all about playing the game! :D

The first lure I totally recommend buying for club credits is the black 15cm shad. Put it on a 8/0 barbless hook and make sure nothing in your setup is below 20kg, because Unique muskies will brake it!

I've been playing off and on for 5 years and have around 1500 hours played between Steam & PS4. I feel the same way about DLCs, I got the Sports Bundle on PS4 because it was deeply discounted (something like 90% for the entire bundle, it was the holidays 2017), I outgrew all the gear except the hat (4 tackle slots). PS4 version was my first but Steam became my main account and has 1000 hours on it, no DLCs but I currently have Premium and usually do when I dip back into the game. I'm only level 51 on Steam (38 on PS4), I spend a lot of time just playing around the lower level lakes and grinding for cash with OP rods instead of following an efficient path of gaining Experience. I've got most of the missions and achievements done except tournament related ones. I really enjoy the game and don't feel the need to race to the end or waste money on DLCs that I'll outgrow in short order.

I think the Starter Pack is a good dlc. 10 bucks and you get some nice quality of life improvements, such as the 3 rod case, tackle box, and the 7 days of premium and advanced licenses. It really helped me out in the beginning, but I also don’t feel like I was given some crazy good gear and it ruined it for me. I enjoy catching all types of fish, so its awesome being able to bring 3 different rods with me.
I just reached the point where I can buy all of the stuff that I got from it, and I gotta say it was money well spent. Plus I’m still using the prem/licenses.

I bought the Congo and the Amazon dlcs a while back. I did it because I wanted to experience the big fish and have fun. I didn't really do it to level up quickly, but I ended up doing that to lol. Now I'm stuck at level 59 in between the Maku Maku and Marron River stage of the game, which sucks. I'm considering getting the wild africa dlc just to get to Marron River to make Fishing Planet fun again.

I was in there alone with some guy and we spoke for an hour about nothing. He eventually gave me a cheap predator pack as a gift and it changed the game so much. It was a blessing and helped me out for quite a while, but I never purchased any other DLC after this because it really does make the game too easy.

Here is another pro-DLC argument: let's say I want a full blown boat. And I WANT IT IN THE GAME NOW, not 150h of grind later, which makes me hate the game and myself too. I'm an adult. I just left few hundred moneys at the fishing store for impulse purchase of bigbait pike lures. My time is worth more than those 30-something moneys for a DLC.

It was either the Deluxe Pack or the Advanced Pack for me. I don't see the benefit of buying more though, because you would get more of the same. I just bought the lucky start dlc cuz I wanted to target some bass for fun in the game, not to level up or grind my levels but just to have fun. ( am a bass fisherman in real life) and didn’t have access to a casting rod or bass tackle early on. Other than that I have grinded. I still kind of consider myself a free to play player. Going after the bigger bass at mud water set me up good with the mechanics of the game. It’s okay to have a little boost I think. 10 bucks good investment. Also, I bought multiples of the same items over and over again and sold to lower my income so I got rid of the 10k it came with. Just wanted the rod and lires

Ok, here is a different point of view. As na angler, you try to maximize your satisfaction when fishing. Some anglers fish with expensive equipment, buy top class licenses, go on a premium spots to catch the most and the biggest fish. Some fish with lures, some prefer live bait. If you try to make them fish differently they won't enjoy fishing that much. So the truth is somewhere in the middle. Buy smart to enhance your satisfaction, just enough. I bought huge 70kg keepnet and a kayak and the rest will earn. Currently level 35.

For me, best money spent are on quality of life items where you can stack up on everything you dobt need and carry with you, stands, keepnets and ofc premium...but even premium some times get you there faster than you wanted and you realise that when you on top....except you dont enjoy engame but getting there.

I've recently start playing this game, in one week i earned enought to be out of slots for the gear i bought or the freebies received for completing the missions.
Then came the first dilema buy baits or else ?
First i bought the heavy casting dlc, to get 25 slots but it did not suffice. And considering the promo at 50%, i ended up buying the whole Angler Sport bundle for 30$ but i got 200 slots, 10 slots for mixtures and 9 preset slots for the rods. So i will make the case that it's better to buy some dlc even if the gear per se you get isn't the main reason for purchasing it.

Ok i only got 50 slots of free space in the end, but all the stuff in there is for later use and of great value. Makes the game much more confortable without thinking too much of what to get rid off first to make space. I confess i'm collectionnist and love to see lot' of lures and reels...

I think the validity of the Congo DLC is that the game had been out a while, already a lot of high-level players. I see that DLC as geared towards those players. Or for players to get when they have a need for it. I admit, I'd like to have that DLC just for the boat and nothing else, haha. But I think the way people should approach the DLC is either stepping stones to save them some in-game money, get a little quality of life, or to get location-specific stuff when they unlock those areas. But yeah, makes no sense to start at the top on your first week in the game just to get to level 80 faster but then you don't learn anything along the way. I'm still having fun at places like Emerald catching 3 lb Walleye on my original Flagmann telescopic rod with 4 lb line, lol. So far, I've only bought the Rigs DLC because I wanted that backpack, plus having all those dozens of sinkers and rigs saves me money down the road. $6.99 felt like a fair deal for that. Other than that, I buy some premium from time to time just to help move things along plus support the devs too.

    • @Destin65
      @Destin65 Год назад

To explain, I'm not on my starter equipment still, I have expanded with a 6-rod bag. But I do still use that original 4 lb telescopic because it's fun to still bring out and catch smaller stuff while the bigger poles are waiting on bites. Even so, at level 34 that I hit last night, my best rods are a 12 lb float rig and a 10 llb casting rig. Everything else is 6 lb rigs except for the 4 lb telescopic. I'm taking my time, making money, blowing it sometimes but learning a lot along the way. But yes, I'm gonna need better for Neherrin and Everglades! lol

  • @DocFloppy86
    @DocFloppy86 Год назад

I bought the sports pack when I originally started fishing planet. My brother got me into it (he's the real fisher, not me^^). Since I had NO IDEA WHATSOEVER about fishing I thought Okay, let's get some starting stuff because it will fit together I don't have to worry about bying part x that doesn't work with part y and what not. I guess that goal was achieved. I was able to fish with my brother and not being left behind thaaat far.
Not it's later, I know the basics and can actually kinda sorta adjust to a new situation I reeeeaaaally regret the purchase.
First the practical part, I am massively behind in experience. Since I'm only playing with my brother we're going to the same locations of course. So there I am in the beginner lakes with my sports pack stuff and barely getting any xp while he just crushes it with his starter gear and leaving me in the dust in regards to xp.
The second, and more important reason (for me) is simply the progression as mentioned by Bo. I'm lvl 25 (remember, still kinda slowmode due to xp reduce) now technically I still don't have to worry about anything. I would guess the sports gear would get me to 30 bevor needing to think about new stuff.
But here is the thing. I was kind of fed up about the xp reduce and startet ditching my sports gear and setting up some lower stuff and since then it's just so much more fun. Not due to the increased difficulty per catch but due to the whole "hm what kind of rod could I build with that or that and for what". Finally got exited about everything I unlock each level and the options that come along with it. Completly ditched the sports stuff in the storage by now.
To conclude this awfully long rant (sorry about that): Regretting the purchase after the fact BUT I don't think I would have gotten to the point where I can regret it without having it since I probably wouldn't have had the patience to get into all the mechanics.
So if you can, go without any dlc but IF you buy any do yourself a favor and pick a low one that will reach it's limits sooner.

I bought the congo dlc after like 1 day of playing the game, went from like lvl 5 to 50 in a week. It completely ruined the grind from me, now it just feels so boring to fish in the locations that I can since I was able to fish in Congo for the time I had the license from the dlc. I honestly just bought the dlc because I really liked the boat and I wanted it so badly. The rods and everything was just extra for me and I didn’t even realise how long it would’ve actually taken me to get the gear I got from the dlc if I wouldn’t have bought it. Lures have in-game parameters: out of which 2 are most important: 1 - Visibility range and 2 - Fish size compatibility. You can really see that #3/0 Patriot DLC walker gets hit by everything, even small perch and chub, which have low hookup ratio, but they go for it.

Bought a gold pack for my sister, she had just started the game so i bought her that pack for 3 reasons.
1: Keepnet - Without a decent sized keepnet you dont get enough money at the start and your stuck fishing small bass and panfish too long.
    2. Rod stand - So she can put in bottom rods and still use a spinner.
    3. So she can experience a couple of other fishing zones at the start and show her some good spots and fishing methods. I remember starting off and being stuck in lone start/mudwater for much more then I honestly found fun. Granted I spend unwisely at the start and she would not have that problem but still.
As far as the higher level rods/gear.
A 20 or so kilogram rod is perfectly serviceable for a low level area. Just put on a smaller leader to fish for the smaller fish. Casting rods are an exception as you wont be able to cast a light lure far enough but lucky that the pack contains featherlight as well as heavy rods.
It does not ruin the game. A congo pack ofc is overkill.. Even the gold is overkill , if the cheapest pack had a 50 kg net and a 2 rod stand in it that would have been the pick.
But i Do agree that it is more satisfying to have played from lvl 1 and leveled up and ground up yourself. My sister however will probably stop playing the game (entirely) in a few weeks and and want her to have fun while she does play it :D (she is not a gamer at all)

The only things that can be good for dlcs is buying them for either the boats and the fishforts. You can buy them for the rods and stuff but most of the rods in the pcaks you can get in the game free. I'm not totally against dlcs its just for whenever you're like AT the end. The natural progression in any game is a trip best traveled. As far as DLC's are concerned..... In any game most of the dlc content comes with special items. I have been playing fishing planet for YEARS, and with the dlc packs for me personally I love the hats, shirts, and matching gear. I know that sounds a little nerdy, but hey, thats me I guess. I also love the draco boat because of the rod holders on the boat. So buying that boat was a must for me for that reason alone. But buying the dlc just for advancement... That to me is missing the adventure. And that varies from person to person. To each their own... Just enjoy the game in your way, and meet some cool people along the way.

I was one of the people who purchased the Congo pack at low level and I definitely do not recommend doing it, it is very fun fishing there but you lose out on so much of the game you don't get to fully enjoy the game when using DLC's

I agree with you, there should be a cap on DLC you have to be at least 5 levels from the DLC level you can go to. I played for two years to get to the top level, yes I bought DLCs, but I use to be a minimum of 5 - 7 levels from the DLC level I wanted to buy.

Premium is where it's at. I wanted to support the Dev's in some way as this game is just really good. I feel like Premium is where the progression should be if it was just a normal full priced game. Bought $30 days at the start but I'll likely keep it at premium moving forward.

I would actually reccommend the Congo pack to get the boat, as far as I know its the only boat with rod holders.
Myself and a friend picked up the Amazon and the Congo pack as they come out. We prefer to be at max level(yet we aren't but in our 50s) and have everything unlocked and then going fishing for things that we find fun. Instead of grinding sturgeon for 3 weeks to level from 40 to 50 which we do not find fun at all, it's really hard to keep my friend whos in his 50s irl interested as "grinding" is boring. Currently we are in Mongolia fishing Siberian Taimen which we do find quite fun to catch, and as a bonus we have out Amazon and Congo gear to use, and the Uniques still give decent exp even with 40kg gear.

i get your point but i dont necessary agree. Fishing planet is a singleplayer game. What u do wont effect others. And therefor if u dont like grinding and just wanna be able to travel to different lakes catch throphies of different species and doing missions and u find joy in that. But the grindingpart makes the experience of playing the game bad. why shouldnt u buy a dlc that helps with the grinding. my point is why should others decide what makes a game fun for u. if u get joy from grinding because u like the feeling of all those hours u spent in the game getting to the level that u are and thats whats makes the esperience of pleying FP fun thats great. But others might not find that part of the game joyable.
i played the fisherman up to level 42 without buying anything spent hundreds of hours into that game. got tired of it didint played for a year and stopped at lvl 42 didnt wanna gontinue grinding over and over and over . doing the same thing for each level. then i went on f2p fishingplanet and bought congo pack and am currently at lvl 50 after like couple of weeks and for me the games starting to get more fun because i getting more freedom.
