This was like the finale of Wrestling.
I hate that this is true, but it feels about right...
That's so true
For wwf. I’d say WM 20 is when everything got stale
Oh man I know! How the heck does that happen? How are we stale on the 20th anniversary? Ugh it hurts.

Wrestlemania 17 is the Greatest Wrestlemania of All Time!
No doubt about it.
Wm x-seven is one of the greatest wm in history 🔥 The perfect card. You got technical wrestling, the stars, your brawlers, story driven matches & high risk matches. WM X-Seven is the epitome of the perfect ingredients of what draws a wrestling fan, it has yet to be duplicated 💯
Not to mention a prestious Greek Godish logo that has a professional feel. The pirate, not so much.
But you didn't have any women's storylines that went anywhere it wasn't progressive enough and where was the inclusion of multicultural superstars I'm sorry this era of WWE is past a it needs to be forgotten it doesn't speak to inclusion and it's full of sexist and racist overtones
You got that right ... It's not even close wm17 is everything wm should be.
@@REXX399I’m still waiting for the wheelchair bound referees…
This is the peak of wrestling as a whole, and the greatest WrestleMania ever. It will never be this great again sadly. What else more could be said?
I’m my opinion this one and Wrestlemania 3 are neck and neck. Both were the absolute peak of the WWEs boom period in the 80s and the 2nd boom in the late 90s/early 2000s
Bullshit
this absolutely was NOT the peak of wrestling lol. How old are you?
@@earlusmcdivett Im 42, and has wrestling ever been this great since 2001? If you say yes then you are full of crap.
@@reallyretro Ever = since 2001 now does it?
I was 18. I watched this in B&W and ate tacos as I did. It honestly doesn't get much better. An amazing and unforgettable contest between Dwayne and Steve.
I keep seeing greatest Wrestlemania ever but honestly I think given everything, the build, the roster, the venue, the event and the climax, I have to say it's the greatest PPV ever not just the best Mania. Definitely the death of the attitude era
Greatest Wrestlemania of All Time.
@Old Age you’re showing your age
Was true end of The Monday Night Wars and probably the high point of the Industry. It's like King Robert from his rebellion in Game of Thrones; he won the Iron Throne by force of arms, but what to do with it concerning governing the Realm it entails.
Yes. Yes it was.
No it isn't. It might be in the top 10, may be even top 5. Greatest? No way. 27, 25 and 21 were way better.
@Old Age lol stop smoking crack wm 3 is super overrated
J.R. is like that kind, wise old man who gives the morals in a fable
And kinda rambles on abit, and goes off on millennials lol
"The Linda pop" one of the greatest pops in the history of wrestling....
WM17 was the peak of the mountain! Hell of a podcast! Classic JR!
"Ah, JR's back on the tirade, last week it was Andrade and now the intergender stuff, and all 14 of my followers loved it" I laughed so LOUD at this. Love red-ass JR
what's the timestamp again? I like his 1:40:20 rant, "We've got to have dirt!"
i dont have a twitter, really dont see its use
1:17:58
I was in the cheap seat! by my self at 14 yrs old watching this at the astrodome!
I was by the entrance at 14-15yrs old. The pop when Linda got up.. was huge! I can still hear it.
Does it get more wholesome than JR reminiscing about his father saying that the Astrodome would hold a lot of hay? Lol love that.
WM17 is my favorite WrestleMania! :)
Mine2! The WWE is nothing but jobbers these days. Everyone does jobs for everyone. This WM mostly had shoots. At least half shoots. ApA always had shoot matches!
I was 26 years old.. man it was almost the end of the best era ever. A couple more years and I was out. Once Stone Cold left I was basically like, whatever.
Awww mate....poor you!
Said no one.
10 years behind you but I stopped watching around 2002 when Mick Foley was phased out as he was my favourite
I'm 58!
I left after 2005 I think. Was a big barista fan and early cena fan after my boyhood hero Austin had gone. Austin and undertaker was my favourites by a mile so taker kept me going but once cena got over the top dominant and barista faded away from the smsckdown world champions days I was officially done with it and only ever came back when I heard Austin or whoever made a random appearance and that was it I haven't watched the weekly shoe since early 2005 and it's gone to total rubbish ever since
Great show...Jim is too thin skinned about his critics and sees them everywhere...stop worrying about the egg avatars on twitter, JR! You’re a legend don’t worry about clowns.
Reminds me of stuart scott back in the day on twitter. Its unbecoming …
Everyone comments on how great the matches were on WM 17, and whilst true.. shout-out also to JR for the incredible commentary during this show too! The commentary was jointly as impressive and important to the success of that event 👏
I would of preferred King over Heyman
Tbh I thought Paul was very annoying.
Wrestlemania XX (20) had the greatest finish of all time... but WM 17 was, overall, the greatest WM of all time.
I love JR. Love the guy. Greatest announcer ever and absolutely respect everything he’s done for wrestling. His knowledge and passion for the business is unparalleled. He is, however, getting to be a bit of a grumpy old man. He seems to be salty all the time over the modern educated fan and particularly over any form of social media.
JR has been kicked for decades, he's well within his right to kick back or give his opinions just as you are
I can't say enough ,how much I admire n respect. The admiration these men have for one another. Conrade speaks to JR as if he is his father. I have so much respect for him for that alone . Now add the content on top of that ya got a 💵 podcast!
Top 5 WrestleManias ever
1. WM 17
2. WM 19
3. WM 3
4. WM 5
5. WM 23
Those earlier Wrestlemanias are very overrated
I downloaded this Wrestlemania and am going to watch it on my trip to Alabama.
enjoy the trip, best mania imo
You will love it
Rock/Austin X7 never been more hyped for a match I was 11
I was 11 years old and had started watching wrestling about a year prior to this mania.. First event I watched other than a raw or smackdown was kotr 2000 fast forward to this event and its the greatest wrestling event in history... I had a feeling it would age well but I didn't know at the time that it would be the greatest wrestling show of all time.
Paul Heyman is a genius in wrestling but he was the sore thumb at WMX7. 12 year old me wanted Jerry. I popped so hard when King came back on Raw.
I was there! 15yr old.. $75 floor seats near the hardcore ending entrance
I miss these two hour plus podcasts. I know there's more of them, but I miss that "zen", calming feeling of Conrad and company going on in the background.
Been waiting for this one ! The best mania ever
Man I just love this channel 👏🏿 and how honest JR is 👍🏿 conrad doing his faang
It's refreshing. Bruce is so full of shit. Why have a podcast if you're going to kayfabe. Helluva time to honor kayfabe. That's why he got his cushy job back. He lied about everything. Can't even admit he went to rehab.
Get the DIRT Conrad!! Get ALLLL the fucking DIRT 😂😄😂😄 god i could listen to JR all day 💯
Everytime I watch this Wrestlemania, the first shot of the Astrodome reminds me of JR's father's words regarding the amount of hay that could fit inside. I enjoyed JR sharing that with us. Great comments here too, I agree guys WM17 was the peak. Every cylinder the industry had was firing, things were tuned nicely regarding match chemistry, plot writing, in ring performance, presentation, etc. It's such a shame that by the end of that decade the product was unrecognizable. It's sad really, today when the kids and I watch wrestling it's usually a 20 or 30 yr old show and we have a great time reliving the glory days especially when it's still new to the little ones, nothing like the 8yr old witnessing a debuting Kane tearing the Cell door off its hinges to get to his brother! Magic!
A HOF oversight is The Jumping Bomb Angels -- and really going back in time.....Johnny Powers.
What a time I was at college getting wasted with friends. Who was better stone cold or the rock? a mate got into a scuffle and was arrested by the mate who he was were going to watch it with. With the line " I guess were not going to watch the wrestling tonight mate" end of an era for sure this wrestlemania more ways than one .
Lol them talking about Kane should be in the Hall of fame !! A few days later they pick him
He was a jobber. If it wasn't for his first angle he wouldnt be in.
I remember me and my dad bought some cheap seats at a kroger one day and I ended up going with my brother in law. The seats were so bad lol we were sitting behind one of the big screens up in the nosebleeds where you couldn't even see the ring lol. But I could see what was going on on another screen and it was an unforgettable event I will never forget.
We need more people like Heenan in wrestling today. He was amazing.
one of, If not, THE best wrestlemania's ever!!!!!
Great episode!
Gonna create a wrestling section in my man cave. I have a personalized autographed picture from HHH. He was my favorite superstar since the DX days. Gotta add some pictures and artifacts.

Love how JR can shit on something and then tell you how much it pains him to shit on said person/topic. Red ass Jr…awesome!
Wrestlemania x7 was so good that it peaked & after the only way was down
This Wrestlemania defined a generational mindset!!!!!
I would have liked WrestleMania 17 better if Stone Cold hadn’t turned heel. Overall, I still think it was a great show but Stone Cold becoming a bad guy ruined it a little bit. I was a huge Stone Cold fan at that time.
True, but for shock value it worked
Always believed that Vince was haunted by Hulk vs Warrior (Babyface vs Babyface) from WrestleMania VI. The notion of a Babyface walking away the winner in the Main Event was blown away by the Previous WrestleMania (WrestleMania 2000) already. Still could the folks from Stamford could have booked a better way and after Austin/Rock with the latter leaving for a movie?
You’re delusional he needed to turn heel
@@kamfisher1714 Didn't think that they let the Heel walk away the winner in two consecutive WrestleMania Main Events either.
@@MarioLabot Austin heel run was underrated
Watched from beginning to end and my personal favorites are: the hardcore title triple threat, Vince vs Shane and the rock/ stone cold main event; quite possibly one of the best matches of all time also.
I loved taker vs hhh my fav of the trilogy at mania. That HC title match too is mad under rated. Prob the best HC title match in wwe history.
I was there 20 years ago my cousin bought tickets and couldn’t make it to Texas.
More: awesome talk about wrestling
Less: defensive JR complaining about random twitter people and millennials
I love how often he naturally uses the term 'push', realises, then has to backtrack and rant on the word again
@@minechaftgamer288 very true. Seems, it's the word that everyone uses, so he has to use it for what he's saying to make sense to others. But he personally hates it. Do you think it's because of Meltzer or McMahon?lol.
1:58:16 Austin vs Rock with the best promo package in WWF history
Speaking purely from a fan point of view, who DIDN'T love that hardcore title match?! I can get on board with the old timer philosophies on wrestling most of the time but that was pure fun. Kane winning a belt on Wrestlemania alone was great as a fan. And that's good booking to me
Wrestlemania 17 is without a doubt the greatest Wrestlemania of all time. 🐐💯 Nobody can dispute that.
Wrestlemania 3
I would say XIX. Every match was good or great.
@@toogifted6491 Dude what??????😂😂 Name 1 good match on Wrestlemania 3 besides Savage/Steamboat
JR opened the *TV* portion of the HOF in 2007. I guess Bockwinkel, The Samoans, Fuji and The Original Sheik were "dark inductions", and JR, King, Perfect and Dusty were the mid-card/main event lol...
I was waiting for this one.
Jeez look at all the ads bunched together for the first hour
Skip to the end of the vid and then replay it. Ads go away
@@curtispeters7517 never seems to work for me, I normally use iPhone so maybe that’s why.
@@OriginalYS idk that may be the reason? I do it every time and it works. I skip to the end or right before it and let it end. Cancel the option for the next vid and then hit the replay and they're all gone.
@@curtispeters7517 hmmm ok thanks for the tip! I don’t mind some ads but there was one every 3 minutes or so for the first hour, unbearable! Cheers
I would love to see those matches to JR's voice over!
1st edit: so many gems/jewels in this episode
2nd edit: I cant believe Im just remembering this little fact now, but JR had the big interview with both Steve Austin and the Rock, why is he trying to act like he wasnt at the center of it. That limp bizkit promo TIL THIS DAY is so memorable and I can still hear JR's and Paul Heyman's voice in my head.
Wrestlemania 17 was the very first PPV I ever bought. Even though I bought it on a Tuesday replay that is one hell of a first ppv. And to this day when I or I see someone doing something against their nature I instantly hear JR's voice saying "STONE COLD IS SHAKING HANDS WITH SATAN HIMSELF!"
I got say I really enjoyed this one. There have been times where JR has gotten defensive on some things and I get a little turned off by them. But damn if good old JR didn't remind me why he is one of my favorite story tellers.
He has gotten very defensive recently. I guess losing his wife and his issues in wwe really had alot to do with it
@@chrisatkins9195 There have been times involving AEW where I felt JR was a little more defensive than he should have been. But this was when he started doing this with Concard. I know more recently he has pulled back on that stance. But I find myself listening to more Bruce and Eric than the other podcasts Conrad does.
"if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all"
unless it's about warrior lol
Bobby called Gene "Tony" as soon as they sat down. You could hear JR laughing his ass off off camera...
Highlight of the episode: "Hall Of Fame Pisser" hahaha, I love cranky JR!

Bobby Heenan: By the time Iron Sheik gets to the ring, it will be Wrestlemania 38 ❤️❤️
Tommy dreamer was thinking of shooting heyman during this mania
@Nate Amstutz would the crowd chant ecw ecw ecw
On your opening ad, not all mortgage interest is deductible. Mortgage interest is only deductible if the loan proceeds were spent on the home.
The last WM where Stone Cold featured prominently.
His WM19 match with Rock should’ve been the main event.
But 17 was the last time it felt like Austin was on top at a WM.
The WM19 match was supposed to go last bu austin was in the hospital the day b4 WM so they changed it that day
"I'm a Hall of Fame pisser" needs to be a shirt!
How old is this
"That weekend where Chris Benoit had his issues". I know JR knew him well, but Christ...
"Calling the whole show" is something I never even thought of. Wow, to switch back and forth between announcers like they've been doing since the brand extension (they being WWE, pronouns pal), must be tiring! Calling the whole show seems less tiring, ironically, and it's baffling that they (WWE) don't take advantage of that format once in a while. Grats on 100! Here's to 100 more plus!
I'm pretty sure during The Rock's "suspension" he went to film The Mummy Returns. I believe it was, either during his brief hiatus between shortly after WrestleMania X8 and shortly before King of the Ring, or after dropping the Title to Lesnar at SummerSlam, did Rock leave to film The Scorpion King. I say that because it was during his next stint in the company as Hollywood Rock where he'd make a bunch of Scorpion King references in his promos and segments, which were entertaining as hell.
He filmed The Mummy Returns the year before between Backlash and Judgment Day. It did come out while he was on “suspension”. But most of the time during his “suspension”, he filmed The Scorpion King.
Kane is very well in the HOF lol. When did this drop? It was announced on Wednesday
1:31:00 Incoming Vince Mcmahon laugh impersonation by JR. 😂😂😂😂
3rd member of this year's class is Kane.
Wrestlemania 2,6, 15 and 20 are the best to me......
If My Way was the theme for the video package for Rock/Austin at WrestleMania 19 it would have been so much better. The lyrics played in the video package would have been worked masterfully knowing it was Austins last match. Go back and listen to that video package and visualize it being for wrestlemania 19..
I'm sick of Conrad's lack of imagination in his ads. Get a marketing manager
Biggest mistake other than turning Austin heel was not turning Triple H a face the next night on RAW the fans were ready for that and you’d at least have a baby face around what a missed opportunity
Was Bruce with us at the time? ROFL, he *wrestled* on the show, officially...
Imo, meltzers ratings are flawed. He should rate the PPVs as a whole and not the individual matches. For example giving APA, Tazz, RTC half a star is to misunderstand the purpose of that match. Its clearly not meant to be a 30 minute matt classic. It's positioned to be a quick warm up match for the show. Like a starter before a main meal. That's why the Gimmick Battle Royal is so perfectly placed, because it eases off the pedal post TLC and allows the audience to have a break before Taker vs HHH. Otherwise the audience will be burnt out. His rating system displays a lack of understanding of how ppvs are booked.
Wrestling just went all downhill after this. This is one of the last great wrestling events after the Monday night wars were over. Wrestling was never the same and 23 years later we still don’t have that shock value anymore
This Wrestlemania is a Christmas Wreatlemania!!!
I think there was like 7 minutes where you could have fit another commercial
I liked the heel turn. Austin was hilarious during the comedy segments. I didn't know it caused that much damage as far as business.
It didn't, all the kids I knew 'I was 13 at the time' really hated Austin that year after WM, It was a great Heel turn, Angle v Austin was a great rivalry and when he betrayed team WWF in the invasion it was shocking, everyone loved the Rock and hated Austin and the WCW team. It went downhill leading up to WM18, they made Austin a face again but it wasn't the same cuz he has screwed the fans so many times, it didn't feel right. Ignore the WWF version, trust your memory
It really didn't . Austins heel turn was gold. From him and HHH to the alliance. Any of us watching the product at the time was convinced and very entertained.
I think people make entirely too much of a big deal about it. Wahh. Stone cold has done and accomplished everything as a face.
Does the astrodome still exist?
Still standing .There were many plans (or talk) of what to do with but fell through.
My favorite announce team is still Vince and Jesse the Body
'Who the fuck hired Raven?'
I suspect in 20 years we will have Tom Phillips Podcast though what would his podcast be called?
@55:00 "Glen Jacobs (Kane) is not in the HOF, is he?"
Oh, yeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh he is
Someone get Mick Foley a badly-labelled VHS of Rosa vs Britt, stat!
@1:58:15 for the main event
If only HBK/Hogan/Foley/Flair had all returned already at WM17 . Imagine Foley Vs Flair no DQ and HBK Vs Hogan at WM17 added to the already amazing card.
21:30 - JR very badly undersells the card here. There were tons of matches that were interesting besides the main event.
Does JR have a split personality? He did say last week that Andrade's claim to fame is that he is engaged to and lives with Charlotte Flair which is kind of messed up.
Oh lord stop it gheesh 😒🙄
@@goldteethpoohproductions2707 It's fact. He did say it. Listen to the show before this one.
@@freemind6954 He did say that, which is why I thought the same thing. I'm not crucifying JR over it, but for him and Conrad to legit wonder what was said that was so bad, that was the reason.
Who do I watch the shows with you and Jr on camera?
I listen to promoters talk but here's the deal, and I hope someone like you and JR hears this... Hardcore was Over, everyone liked that match between Big Show, Kane and Raven and Crash Holly's pursuit of the title before then. Everyone HATED when you took the hardcore title away; there was a good place for a 24/7 champion. Period. Big Show was also over, for his promos and his comedy; he didn't need to be the second coming of Andre the Giant. All of you failed by trying to book him that way. We all agree about the TLC match, which, in itself, is an offshoot of the hardcore, as well as Shane's Street Fight match afainst his dad, which in itself was also hardcore. There is also a world outside of Austin and the Rock; the Rock was a great heel in previous programs but he wasn't over with the people my age like Steve Austin was. Nobody cheered for his rooty poo candy ass, and some of us hated him (even though he was entertaining). He was probably more over with Little kids and then he was great to watch when he came back and there was no one like him later. Austin could never properly turn heel because he was already kind of a well liked heel. He always got a pop, even when he sang, and you would have to change his sexuality or have him burn a cross before he would ever be booed (and why would you ever want him to be that?) Undertaker is solid and he saved the WWF/E through all of its struggling years. Triple H was cool, and people liked the storylines with the McMahon's and even the Four Way main event of the previous Wrestlemania just for its promotional work. You guys sold a lot of toys and tickets and our parents probably just did not have as much more to spend (I mean that in a kind way). You had the invasion angle coming up next where, technically, Vince at this point should have been turned into a Babyface. You guys started to lay it in sideways and do a lot of things that didn't quite make sense, but that also allowed new stories to grow out of it. I wasn't expecting Ric Flair for instance, and he did a really great job with everything he did in the WWF/E. No one liked the name change either. Old habits die hard. Smackdown vs Raw, the brand split. But amidst all of that you kept on going. The Ruthless Aggression era was better than we knew it to be at the time. Also... Kurt Angle was sold to us as a great heel, and nobody ever fully stopped chanting YOU SUCK!!! Thank Edge and Christian for that.
What did you think of the spot where Rock put Austin in the sharpshooter???
One thing I don’t get is how he got so upset about the Chyna match. It almost kind of seems he was blaming her but wasn’t it booked like that?
Conrad talks about JR/Heyman as if anyone prefers Lawler.
That is truly the only combo people take over jr/lawler
Can you guys do an episode on Backlash 1999? Asking for a friend
JR ripping Chyna for squashing Ivory... um that's not her decision, someone booked the match to be that way. It was meant to establish Chyna as a Hogan or Goldberg style head of the women's division, this was on purpose. It was a squash because that was what the creative meant for it to be.
Stone Cold Stone Cold stone Cold stone cold!
