Tribute To The Proud Coal Miners Of Bentinck Colliery.

Subscribe to my you tube channel for 220+ more coal mine tributes and counting. Bentinck began production in 1896. It was the largest Nottinghamshire colliery between 1967 and 1983. By 1981, the two pits were linked and Annesley's coal was brought to the surface at Bentinck.When the mines were amalgamated, Annesley with its two headframes became the main access for men and materials and coal came to surface via an incline drift at Bentinck which had the largest coal preparation plant in Europe. Coal was taken to power stations by merry-go-round railway trains operated first by British Rail and later by English Welsh and Scottish Railways.In January 1999, it was announced that Midlands Mining PLC was intending to close Annesley-Bentinck colliery by the end of the year, due to geological problems and adverse market conditions.I was working there when the colliery sadly closed in January 2000 making me and many others redundant.

I worked at both bentinck and annesly as a deputy. 1984 to 1994. I smashed my leg in 20s scour. Pete Durant and pat spalding helped me along with all my work colleagues. They really were great times. I miss my times there.
