- The one back hand is a beautiful and difficult shot to master. and the open stance is an added level of pressure. In this video I aim to help you make it a little easier. HAVE FUN😁
Thank you for making this video. It’s very hard to find any videos showing open stance one-handed backhands. My daughter, who is a junior player, recently switched to one-handed backhand because she finds it more natural. it’s a work in progress, but we definitely want to learn how to do open stance for when the situation demands it.
@cldsouza74 great call 👍its a necessity
Great video. Being cross eye dominant I have done this at times without really trying to. Its great to see some kinetic explanation on how its done. Thanks again, you're one of the best on RUclips.
Thanks Coach! knowing to shift the weight is a big help ( aside from depending on a slice backhand).
Thanks Will. Good to see you back !!
It'll be like it was before and I'm even adding a few things
Great video coach. Thank you. I hope one day I make it look "easy" like you do 😉
That's why we do what we do
Love this video and the tips. I was always under the impression that doing an open-stance OHBH is incorrect. Going to give it a try ASAP.
It's just a tool like any other 😁 it has its moments
@@ironwilltennis the scenarios you mention are exactly the moments where I struggle with the OHBH, on the run or when I don't have enough time for a closed stance.
I almost never hit an open stance backhand and I still clip my leg maybe every couple weeks or so on a very low incoming ball....not pleasant at all but it is the nature of the shot sometimes. "Beauty is pain" (sometimes).
Gracias Will 👍🏽🇪🇸
Hey Will! hope you continue doing the one minute clinic series, I like it a lot! I will leave one topic in case you decide to cover it.
I noticed I hit most of my flat serves with a bent arm at contact. My toss is pretty high, but the ball drops quite a bit before I finally hit it. I also use a pinpoint stance. Any tips on how to achieve a higher contact point with a straight arm? Thanks!!
Fantastic video! Sorry to bother you and I hope you find a few seconds to reply. Why did you switch from 2H to 1H? I was a 1H and then started playing at higher level and my performance coach changed me to a 2H which I find too UNNATURAL, It’s been 2 years now and of hand fed balls my 2H output is great..I can destroy the ball but in points and when I am moving in real situation points it just feels unnecessarily awk2ard to use the left side of my body. I miss my 1H but it was weak so in a conundrum …revert back and improve it or suffer and get on with the unnatural 2H 2 year down the line. Thank you 🙏
@francescomancuso4960 I played with a 2 hand back hand through all of my professional and college career and the one hander always felt more natural. I just never had the time to commit to practicing it. And being that my performance was what was paying the bills. I had the stick to 2 hands.
I use this when I know I will be late on the shot or for return of serve. In fact, I will shift my weight to my back leg to prepare for the shot as you suggest. It is a defensive shot but it works very well.
Would the mechanics here also be useful for receiving serve (for a right handed backhand) in the ad court if the serve comes fast and one can't shift the right leg into position first?
Yeup it can definitely be applied to that situation
@@ironwilltennis one more question- would there be adjustments to this mechanic if I’m right eye dominant (which I am) versus a left eye dominant right handed backhand?
@@Jsjliao minor in term of head position but I wouldn't get to wrapped up in that
@@Jsjliao That's some PM bs used to sell coaching, just keep both eyes on the ball.
Can you please make a video on returning slow serves for an intermediate player (positioning and shot selection)?
I think I can manage that😁
If you get jammed into the body you can still hit closed-stance BH by stepping backward with the left foot, then push off forward again from the left foot to execute the closed-stance BH.
That is true if you're given enough time. All depends on the situation
hi will, what should be use , closed open or semi on forehand. tnx
Or just slice it, it's still a one handed backhand technically speaking 😊
I was trying to stick to the main request but you are 100% correct that is also an option
