Cool video:) I am an ex Renault mechanic and I fitted a performance exhaust to one those in 2001 and I will NEVER forget the road test I carried out. It took me a good half hour of driving around to make sure I'd done a good job of fitting it!!! The sound was out of this world, as you said a pure naturally aspirated beast of car. Good memories, thanks:)

I remember driving up the A42 around 2010 on a late Sunday. I was in the right hand land over taking.
All I seen was someone flashing me from ages away.
I move over, next minute a V6 Clio absolutely flys past me.

I have never actually seen this car in reality its a rare little beast. Not for driving everyday as the mpg is ridiculous. 🤔

My first car was my mum's 1998 clio 1.2 the same generation as this and she had it from new. It was black, I put rims on it and springs. Thought I was so baller in it.
I regret selling mine in 2014. Absolutely my favourite car and I’d have another tomorrow if I had the £25k needed to buy another.
I snook one out when I valeted for renault reg vardy when I was 17. Smiles per gallon priceless 😂

These Phase 1 V6s are the best looking in my opinion.
An amazing car that just wasn't. It's a car every car guy wants to drive but not own. Somewhere between supercar and hot hatch. Love to see this and a clio sport of same gen on track.
For me it would be the face-lift version in Blue. Good choice

One of these drove past me a few years back, I was in a Polo GTI (1.4 twin charged). Naturally I tried to keep up but failed miserably. I googled it and found out it had a v6. I thought it was a clio 182

Stop saying it’s rear engined, it’s rear MID engined for fucks sake. I.e. the mass of the engine is in front of the rear axle line.

This Clio is as rare as a snakes ass, you can't see this gem as most of them are now garage queen in collectors storage.

It s a supercar not a hot hatch. Rwd, v6 in the middle, 2 seats and very wide body.

I prefer the look of the phase 1 but the phase 2 was just a much better car all round. The phase 1 has the air of a kit build project almost. The phase 2 felt screwed together better. It came fully loaded with kit, they made a raft of changes, engine was sweeter, suspension refined, they even altered the wheel base. They were still extremely heavy for their size and the turning circle was ridiculous. I have had cars with 12 metre turning circles and felt they were stupid, this thing has a 13 metre turning circle. A Lamborghini Diablo which is ungainly has a slightly better turning circle! You can't park it well or do a three point turn, it makes you look such a bad driver at low speed 🤣🤣
They are great cars, I love mine, jamie you should come and try my Renault 5 turbo 2

If this really is a holy grale car then you really do need to drive a phase 2.
The phase 1 was not a good chassis but the 2nd generation was a completely different car to drive.

I have a phase 1 and it is a piece of shit but in a good way.You need to see it like a project car/kit car. Build quality is french.My escos and 911sc are older but the build quality is way better.People just ask silly prices for them now.

Calling this a "hot" hatch like you call that dreadful fiesta st thing a "hot" hatch is wrong! The Clio V6 (developed) by TWR is the original Hyper hatch (bar the Metro 6R4)
I prefer that focus RS mk2 behind the V6
