  • Fluid bed concentrator by Green Mountain Gold Trap, review and give away! Joseph from Green Mountain Gold Trap sent me a 23” Paysteak Finder to pay with. He knows in British Columbia, Canada we are not permitted to use anything like this in the rivers due to regulations, So he asked me to do a review of the item, then give it away to one of my viewers. This gold concentrator is like the Bazooka or the Grizzly fluid bed sluices. Although I hear both those other companies are not producing them anymore. One very nice aspect of these fluid be classier concentrators is that material can be shoveled in directly as the sluice classifies as it processes. Gold panning with the aid or river sluices seams like so much fun, too bad we can’t do it here in B.C.

Hi Dan! Great video! I have used this product nearly every day for the last 2 years with the only concern being the distance one must travel. The larger version, the"River Bed Hog," being nearly twice as large, weighs accordingly. While it's still heavier, it is NOT heavy! Soooooo, a shovel, a pan, a sniffer bottle, and a sense of adventure is all that's required! Again, awesome video!
    See you on the "Tube!"

The Green Mountain Gold Trap that Joseph builds in Vermont is an awesome unit, the construction is awesome...With the ability to see right through the unit as it is functioning is one of it's big ticket charms...That and the space age design and material just looks awesome...Really easy to use..and little set up time to get it going...place it in a river, stream, or as Dan did in a man made channel. Get the unit level or as close as one can. Start feeding it until it gets near full...again because you can see through it you can see if the unit is still fluid stratifying...if it isn't it's full...really full. Best to stop before it is totally full...and easy to clean out..it's tough and can take a beating in the field from use. Awesome job Dan. Glad you were capable of doing this review for Joseph...You know with your Icon I150 set up you have a drain channel from your unit to your tailings pond...you can use one of those in the drain channel to catch what flows out of the Icon and catch anything that makes it out of that end of the unit. The Gold trap would make a wonderful safety catch net for that system as it is currently set up...and now you built a channel for it...best to paint that wood though to keep it from rotting in the water...Just an Idea 😉...or plumb up the gold capture end from the icon and run that through the Gold Trap clannel rather than the pail you currently use as a catch...I often wonder if you loose any powder fine gold from that pail due to the water pressure in that bucket from the machine as it runs and flows over the bucket edge...might be an Idea...Thanks for posting this vid...and until your next video...Bye 👍

Nice job on the review, I like seeing new ideas for today's professor's. You can add some led buckshot (painted brite orange or yellow) to your test dirt, for a more accurate test. Note that the buckshot as you already know, is lighter then gold and can easily be shaped into flakes and nuggets for best results and a accurate count. If you can catch led, you can catch gold. Good Luck.

Thanks for showing me how this is done, I'll build a franken-fluid from an old foot-scraper, some old water-pipes and some boards and finally start getting those gold-flecks out of my stream back home. It was all to much of a hassle to pan those odd-flecks of tiny gold out of that icy water, but with this knowlege I can concentrate it with a shovel and the stream and then pan it at home in less cool water. To bad freight and taxes would be a killer shipping to Europe, or I'd go ahead and buy a ready-made one. Fluid-bed-theory was otherwise something I only knew from garbage-combustion...

  • @WheezinGeezerTV
    @WheezinGeezerTV 5 лет назад +3

It looks like an amazing piece of equipment. You show that it catches gold. BUT,.... and you can see it's a BIG but, what I didn't see and would have like to have seen is you pan through the tailings to see what it misses. Looking great (and it does), catching gold (which it did), but if I don't know what is being missed (if any), all I have is "pretty" and catches gold. When someone asks if any gets through,.. I have no idea. It could be pretty and misses half the gold.
Now don't get me wrong. That looks like it'd do an awesome job. I'm just saying the test isn't complete.
Enjoyed the video for sure. Sure wouldn't mind trying that thing out myself.

We can use all kinds of sluices and such here in Wyoming. I think the BC politicians are addled, why would you not run river gravel back into the river??? In running sluices and dredges you actually dislodge river insect larvae into the water and feed the fish... fish love gold miners because a free meal is too hard to pass up. And you know what they say about free stuff... it's worth saving up for!

Very well said @Live Your Wyoming Adventure and very true. If you're looking for fish on a river look immediately downstream from the gold miners and you'll find a lot of fish eating up nutrients dislodged from the gold miners' material.

It's not worth the half a grand price tag though. It's ridiculously priced. As is most anything in this hobby, the only way to make money in prospecting is selling us equipment, or buying our gold outright (given that we could make more money flipping burgers at minimum wage than we do fossicking in most countries due to laws on mechanisation). :(

I always look forward to your videos,
I always learn something and I’m always
    entertained...!
I live in Northern Indiana where all we have
is Glacier Gold which leaves us with some
very small finds, we like to term it “Fly Poop”...!
So having something that can recover the really
small specks certainly comes in handy.
I would love to give this Green Mountain Gold Trap
    a try...!
I’m a Lifetime member of the LDMA and GPAA.
Our members are great for passing along recommendations
for new equipment when we find something that works,
which I would be happy to do after putting it through its
    paces...!
    I’m like you, I won’t ever recommend something that I don’t
    personally use and believe in...

It was good seeing your Son and Dad, need to have them more
    often...!

I built a fluid bed out of wood back in the day, it was a heavy s.o.b, and hard to clean out, but it worked like a champ. I have been looking for one, and couldn't find anything. - thanks for the video

The more angle you have, the less gravity you have working for you. I think the speed may have been ok but I would have raised the tail end until it started holding rocks on the grate, then lowered it just enough to blow them through.

I love your work, I think this Green Mountain Gold trap is perfect for small streams. In Vermont many years ago, in a small stream someone got enough gold to buy property, build a home and barn. This stream was small enough that I would not fish in lol. Thanks for the review, again love your work and information.

This is awesome! I've seen a lot of fluid bed sluices on RUclips, but this is the first in which you can see what is going on inside the fluid bed. Definitely an educational moment for me. Thanks Dan!

That sluce is so awesome. You can see how the it functions because of it's clear plexiglass / lexin construction

cool sluice! I would think that the addition of a small piece of sawtooth mat before and after the grizzly would be a neat addition. I can also attest to your honesty in reviews having been the subject of one in the past. Keep up the good work Dan!
