    Another great video - and really timely for me! I think the only exceptions to the Ameldung registration requirement for expats residing in Germany would be: those staying/living an extended time in Germany under the rules of the Geneva Conventions (this category doesn't even need a passport, or visa, to enter Germany); those traveling on an official government (non-tourist) passport (applicable to persons only from certain countries); or, those with a diplomatic passport from any country which Germany has an acknowledged diplomatic relationship. (You would know which countries these are because those countries have an embassy somewhere in Germany. In the US, for example, we have no North Korean emabassy, because we currently have no diplomatic relationship with them. Also, from 1961 until 2015 we had no diplomatic relationship with Cuba, but do now.)

    Well, it's not actually illegal to use your phone as a Wifi hotspot, it's more that this is usually excluded/limited in the terms of the usual plans offered by provider (voice + data). Most providers also offer data-only plans (originally meant for use in tablet or netbooks), which are less restricted and/or less expensive. As these are meant for data, you can usally use these sim-cards as secondary SIM in a dual-SIM phone or in an old phone to provide Wifi coverage (of course provided you get a decent bandwith where you live)

    in Israel for mobie contract: You pay about 6.5€ a month, you get unlimited calls and SMS, and around 200 GB internet volume, you can call internationally for free to landlines, can tavel abroad with it (on special request or regular term) and you can cancell any time without a penelty. You just pay the remnaing time you used the contract until the day you canceled.
    When you order internet home, you get it in 1-2 days, and it is Fiber speed. All the country almost is already connected.

    Ugh, the Anmeldung. I lived for several months in Germany as an exchange student in the 1990s without registering with the city. It’s a long story and related to a misunderstanding about visa requirements. But, every time I heard the police sirens at night, my heart raced, for fear they were coming to arrest me because of not registering! Otherwise, loved my time in Germany.

    Thank you for the super useful tips! I just arrived in Duisburg a month ago and I have few points to add on! 1: depending on the city that you live in, your appointment date for your Anmeldung can take a long time! there is a waiting period of around 3-4 months for me! 2: getting an internet connection for the home is not that tough these days. I got my Vodafone internet and it was activated in less than 30min. Thanks for helping me transition to the German lifestyle "SMOOTHLY" with your videos.

      @simplegermany  3 года назад +3

      Woaah!! Thanks for sharing your experience! Super cool to know that your internet connection was up super fast! Regarding the Anmeldung you are right. Especially with Covid appointments can take a lot longer, which is why we recommend making an appointment online already before you come to Germany 😊

    • @iProDeeP
      @iProDeeP 3 года назад

      @@simplegermany Yeah I agree! Sadly in my case even an online appointment was not possible! I had to vist the foreigners office just to get my appointment slip! I have to wait all the way till January to get my tax ID, after that only I can apply for my residence permit which will delay my opening bank account as well! Infact I couldn't verify my N26 bank account cz f all these delay!

    • @jhdix6731
      @jhdix6731 3 года назад +4

      You probably were lucky that your predecessor was with the same Internet provider you are.
      DSL ports are registered to the provider, and sometimes that means a connection on a manual switchboard. In those cases, to get your landline connection up and running, someone needs to physically come to your home or that distribution point down the road to plug in that one connector cable. That's usually the part that takes longest, much longer than just setting up your account to log on or sending you some hardware.
      When your contract ends, usually only the account is deactivated, but that connector is left as it is. So, if your predecessor was with Vodafone as well, all that needed to be done was the account registration.
      The same applies, if your apartment already had cable TV available , and you chose a plan that uses this already existing line to access the internet.

    I moved in Germany last Monday and I'm trying to stick with all of that, I hope to get every points done properly in a reasonable time but I'm a bit concerned about the SCHUFA. Do you think they will take in consideration my credit score from the Country I was lived in previously? I'm currently living in a temporary accommodation, I'm eager to find my own place but it seems so difficult especially with a dog

    Thank you so much for the great tips. One thing that’s annoying me though is that you just name the chapters “thing #1”, “thing #2”, etc. instead of naming the exact tip or topic. I think it would be much easier to go back ans forth between chapters this way.

    • @fannychristozova8158
      @fannychristozova8158 3 года назад +3

      I don't find it annoying, I think it's clever! If somebody hovers over the time frame of the video and see let's say namings like "Internet provider" or "Housing", they'll think like, 'well yeah, that comes naturally into mind, why even mention those' but then when the topic is talked about, you hear a lot of additional things you probably had no idea about! So I'm only saying I think it's the smarter way, in cases like this. 🙂

    Don't know about Germany, but in the United States. It is much easier for women to introduce themselves than for men to introduce themselves. Americans are fearful and suspicious, separated by houses and by yards. It isn't looked at positively for a man to wander onto a property and knock on doors, and that could even get him in trouble.

So when we come to Germany, do we need to sign up for public insurance first and then get a job ? Or first get a job and then we will get that insurance from our employer.

    Hello. How can I cancel my prepaid sim card? Or I should just stop charging it and it will be cancelled automatically?
    Thank you

      You can stop charging it, yes. But you can also contact your provider and submit your cancellation.

    You kind of forgot to add that one should get vaccinated. Without vaccination, the restrictions are so annoying and hinder one's ability to dine indoors among other things.

      This is something I wanted to ask. I was following a gay guy on Instagram from X country (I dont want to say the nationality to avoid generalizations) that was living in Leipzig and now in Berlin. He is doing videos all around the city sometimes without a mask. Someday, someone asked to him that If we will get vaccined and he HAVE THE DARE to record a video saying in a sassy way that he is NOT getting for sure vaccined. I felt that was so unresponsible that I DM to know the why and he only answered "Because I dont want to" no futher explanation.
      I inmediately unfollowed him and blocked.
      He is all around having colds and sickness, always showing it is not Covid but still... And he goes a lot to the gym. A LOT. He even went to a water park, swimming next to children. I couldn't believe it.
      I mean, are there any restrictions there? What about with people who is not getting vaccined? Specially if the person is a refugee?

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  3 года назад +2

      Every state has their own Covid measures in place. Generally speaking that means that one can only do indoor activities (including gyms, swimming pools, restaurants and hotels) with proof of vaccination, a healed infection in the past 6 months or a negative test).

    If come to Germany from a country part of the EU and I already have European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), should I hurry to get regular German health insurance?

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  3 года назад +2

      Hey Angel, the EHIC is great for travel, however it is not good for a longer stay or actually living in Germany. For living in Germany, you should get insurance from a German health insurance. Feather can help you find the best one for you: www.simplegermany.com/feather-health-yt/

    Hi, if you are renting an apartment for 5 or 6 months while on a language learning residence visa and for example, a pipe bursts and there is a flood(through no fault of your own) who is liable for that? I'm not sure if I need the liability insurance for such a short period, because I cant imagine what damage I would do to others' property.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  2 года назад +2

      You should check our rental agreement and speak to the landlord. It depends on the specific cause for the water damage which type of insurance will cover, e.g. if it is a burst pipe, the landlords building insurance will cover to repair the damage on the house. Your home contents insurance will cover the damages to your property. Hope this helps.

    For opening a german bank account i need a resident permit (not just visa) and for my insurance i need a bank to pay ! What should i do ?( i just arrived few weeks ago)

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  3 года назад +1

      Hey Reza, you should be able to open a German bank account with your Meldebescheinigung, which you get when you register with your local Bürgeramt after you have moved into your flat. Try to open your account with one of the banks that we review in this video: ruclips.net/video/n25SQus45xQ/видео.html 😊

    You don't mention renting a bike. Which is a cheaper option than buying one. You pay 20 euro per month and have always a bike in good condition. Bike mechanics are very expensive in Germany so if you can't do every repair by yourself, than you will pay. And the rented bike has a "pfand" - you pay 60 euro at the beginning and this is your insurance. When your bike gets stolen you get another one in 24 hours and loose only these 60 euro. You lost your bike key? They will deliver you a new one tomorrow. There are electric bikes available to rent too (ofcourse are more expensive about 60-100 euro depending on how much you use it). I think over a half of Liferando/ Gorillas etc. bike couriers in Berlin use rented bikes. From one hand they get a new one immidiaetly when it gets broken (and they need it tomorrow to go to work) and from the other hand they are mostly immigrants so they don't have a problem to get rid of the bike when they go back to the home country.

      Very interesting insight! Can you name a bike rental company you know?

    • @AsterFoz
      @AsterFoz 2 года назад +1

      @@simplegermany the most popular is Swapfiets. They have charakteristic blue front wheel you have already seen for sure. As the name suggests it's a company from Netherlands (fiets = bike) and exists in every bigger city in Germany. I personally moved from one city to another and just left a bike at their store in the 'old' city and two days later got another one in the 'new' one. So i moved with a bike without having to transport it with all other of my belongings. Recently facebook shows me some new long term bike rental companies, but i'm not planning any change right now.

    I'm wondering why it is illegal to use mobile hotspot as WiFi inside home? I looked it up in the internet but didn't find anything.

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  3 года назад +2

      Hey Ali, most providers do not allow full-time home usage as per their terms and conditions. You need to leave your home several times a month, and should you consume too much data from the same spot or your home address, the providers are at liberty to cancel your contract or connection. You are also not allowed to use your SIM card with an LTE or wifi router at home. Hope this helps 😊

    • @simplegermany
      @simplegermany  Месяц назад +1

      No it is not illegal. But a provider might cancel your contract if you misuse your hotspot for permanent use.
