The benefits of the librarys (Bücherei) I always use before I get an employer for example use the Internet and newspapers, to search for a job or a flat. And you can borough books, digital media, games etc.
I love the public library, no matter where I am. Mine here in the U.S. also loans I-Pads with a library card. So much more than just books. Ours also has a free monthly movie-usually a fairly new one.
You guys are so helpful ❤ The German government should just give you some monthly salary .. As a foreigner it's very hard to find this kind of information 😕. Thanks guys
I would wish to meet you personally. Bcoz you are among the people whom I didn't know existed to this level especially in Germany a country known out side as conservative by character
I'm an Edeka fan...but I have Aldi, Lidl and Netto just 5 min away...so i look for sales and shop accordingly as i recognize that sometimes Edeka is more expensive. It's just so much bigger and nicer in the small town I live in..and has everything available. The others definitely do not 😊
I hope you know how valuable and helpful your videos have been for us new international students. I absolutely recommend your videos to anyone who wants to move there and I've learned so so much from you. Thank you!
If you bike and take your bike on trains/local transport to explore the country-side, folding bikes (Faltrad) are a good option. You don't have to buy a ticket for a folded up bike on public transport in Germany. My girlfriend and I have probably saved a several thousand euros over the last 10 years years. Plus folding bikes are smaller and lighter, making them easier to bring into your flat or cellar, to prevent being stolen. 🚲
Omg I just discovered your channel, it's a blessing. U guys helped me so much. Well I don't know if I will be in Germany or Poland but I will definitely make it to Germany even if I went to Poland first. I will watch all of your other videos and take notes too because there's a lot to learn. Dankeeee
Me and my best friend enjoyed a lot this video and put in some thought and discussion to all these tips. You've a new fan in his face, I couldn't count how many times he actually said "Bravo!" while listening to the two of you a while ago! (I didn't make him, he was genuinely impressed, and I say this while you already know that I myself am a true fan a true supporter) A few of your tips turn out to be quite a great consideration, including for someone not really intended to set off to Germany, because they also apply to countries like ours. And I should definitely FINALLY take more time and commitment to learn already to ride a bike!! (halfway capable by now.. didn't have the chance to do that as a child) Thank you, and never ever ever forget that Your work and investment into what you're doing is, to put it mildly, priceless! 👑👑
In some towns there are Betriebssportgemeinschaften from firms which you can use too if you aren t work in that firm and with one membership you can use different sports equal.
Bikes are more expensive than 500€ at the moment more like a 1000€ for decent bike. But the return of investment for your health ia great. Now only the road design needs to change.
Regarding alcohol on picnics: During times where the big C is present everywhere - make sure it is really allowed in the state that you are in. Some states in Germany have set up rules on alcohol not being allowed outside as ridiculous as it seems . My dad was working as a lorry driver and after his shift at the hotel or guesthouse in Rheinland Pfalz he stayed overnight in few months ago he got himself a beer and sat outside and completely by himself in the perimeter of the accommodation and his lorry. He actually got approached by some overly eager guy from the Ordungsamt and fined for having his 'Feierabendbier' outside. Bit over the top methinks, as no harm done to anyone. make sure it is really ok to do so in regards of extraordinary C19 rules, cause then you save yourself from having to pay a fine - Which in turn nicely links into the saving money topic again ;-)
The Edeka vs Aldi thing is too true - I’m lucky they’re both close because it’s the best of both worlds. Also for any other Americans looking for something more like a Target that’s groceries + whatever else, there’s Kaufland! I cried tears of joy the first time I walked into my local Kaufland 😂
Found your channel today and subscribed immediately. Loved your content and deep explanations about each topic. I am sure it is not only going to help non-Germans but also Germans 😄 keep it up! lots of love from India. 😍

@@simplegermany hey girls thank you so much! Can you make a video or share a link of video of banking - is there any way of having an account with them and they give you a bonus for having /spending money with them? It used to be something like if you are 5.52 you can round it to 6 and the rest goes to this side account of the bank etc to save ..it would be helpful
Thank you so much ❤️ Your article on finding the social security number using Meine TK app just helped me in submitting the onboarding documents at a new job. 🤗
About the “fresh” fish that you buy at Rewe: If you don’t live directly by the sea, fish in German supermarkets is NOT fresh. The fish and seafood they offer at the fish counter was frozen, just like the packaged fish in the freezer isle. They just thaw it before they sell it to you. They even admit this when you ask them.
Not all were frozen (if they were it says aufgetaut on the price sign). Some are also fresh. Obviously not as fresh as a fresh catch in a coastal town 😉
You have to be very careful choosing another electricity or gas company, however, since many of the cheap ones have been going bankrupt with the extreme price rises and kicking out their customers, who end up with the most expensive providers. Here in Berlin, at least, people have been stuck with insane monthly rates of hundreds or even thousands of euros from the local providers. They will eventually get it back, but it is terrifying to receive a 2000 EUR bill for just January 2022.
You could Google the sport you're interested in and your city. So like 'basketball verein Dusseldorf'. Or even just 'Sportverein Dusseldorf". Another way is to look for Facebook groups located in your city that meet regularly to play sports. Hope that helps :)
You did not lie about the weather. I am about to move to Deutschland with my family and my biggest concern is about my wife realising she has to deal with German weather for the next 20 years 🤣. Hey Benrie, we have a guide about Unemployment benefits on our website, feel free to check it out here: www.simplegermany.com/unemployment-benefits-germany/.😄
Hey guys! Do you have any specific German Banks to recommend in order to open a bank account and not to lose any money on unnecessary utilities maybe? I was thinking Deutsche Bank.. What do you think? I'm coming to Bochum in order to live and work there so I'm watching these videos thoroughly!!🙃
All in all very good tips, but did you also notice that some low-cost suppliers of electricity and gas recently terminated their customers' contracts because they were unable to maintain their very cheap contracts given the current high energy purchase prices?
Yes! And we are not promoting low cost providers, but instead the idea to compare and not to accept the status quo of your basic provider. On Stromauskunft, the comparison platform we mention, you can select to exclude low-cost providers. Ostrom, the provider we do mention, is not a low-cost electricity provider. Hope this clarifies 😊
We have a guide on unemployment benefits in Germany which gives you some answers to your question: www.simplegermany.com/unemployment-benefits-germany/
Hi from Australia. I am enjoying your videos. You didn’t mention Seniors or Pensioner’s discounts. Is that a thing in Germany? I will be cycle touring, and it might save some money to access Seniors discounts.
I was under the impression that starting from 1st January 2022, by law, all contracts can no longer be enforced to be at least a minimum of 12 or 24 months, a minimum of 3 months notice to cancel current contract and if in case wasn't canceled cannot be renewed automatically for 12 months. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The second part is correct, the cancellation period got reduced to one month, however, a contract can still have a minimum length of up to 24 months. After that you can always cancel with one month notice.
Can we change current on going giro account IBAN to another??? Because I habe Sparkasse which I pay 7.50 per month. I need to change it to Commerzbank because they offer 0 fee. Main thing I need to keep IBAN because of my ABOs. Please do a video 🙌
That is not possible, because the IBAN consider of 2 parts: first part is the Bankleitzahl (=bankcode), the 2. part is Kontonummer (=account number). Both together is your IBAN. So, if you change the bank, your IBAN always will change because the bankcode can only be used by your old bank, not your new.
No worries. You will get a new IBAN when changing banks, but often banks offer a changing service that they inform all Abos about the change and you can choose, which provider to switch. Commerzbank offers that service too: service.commerzbank.de/wie-funktioniert-ein-kontowechsel-zur-commerzbank/. So ideally, you open the Commerzbank account first (www.simplegermany.com/commerzbank-yt/), then use the changing service. And once everything got changed and is running smoothly, you can cancel your Sparkasse account. Hope this helps!
Hopefully our written guide on how to start a business in Germany might guide you on this topic: www.simplegermany.com/how-to-start-a-business-in-germany/
Very good information and advice, as always! I envy Germans for being able to choose electric and even natural gas providers. I'm not aware of any place in the US where this is possible. No free market whatsoever --- and I think we all accept this as "just the way it is." Hmmmm. On the other hand, the church tax strikes me, as it would most Americans, as weird, if not downright sinister! I suspect there is a long and interesting history behind it.
Hi! I'm Roman Catholic and a regular churchgoer and will be moving to Germany soon. I don't know if I will get married in Germany. Just wanted to know if you know anything about me still being obligated to pay Church Tax?
Yes, you would have to pay Church Tax... however (if you are willing to lie about your religion): usually you can visit your church or take part in everyday church activities even if you do not pay the church tax (normally noone will ask you about it)... only if you want to use one of the more "special" services of the church (like marriage, baptisms, funerals, etc.) you should register... normally you won't be banned from having one of these, even if you are not "officially" part of the given church in Germany, but they will charge you heavily (for marriages or funerals usually at least double the "normal" price).
If you opt out at the Anmeldung you can still join the church once you want marry. Also your future spouse needs to be registered in the church as well. So, if you do not have fixed plans to marry in Germany soon, you do not have to choose the registration at a church now
5500 is 66000€ per year. That's not low income anywhere..thats an average salary. In fact, that's $97000 Cdn, which would be considered a very good salary in Canada!

If you opt out at the Anmeldung you can still join the church once you want marry. Also your future spouse needs to be registered in the church as well.
So, if you do not have fixed plans to marry in Germany soon, you do not have to choose the registration at a church now
@@luci2k1 thank you! 🙌🏽

problem is no matter how frugal you live, what you save from a low income (even 5-5500 groos is low) is not worth much
Is that after taxes or before?
@@CallOfCutie69 before
but to be honest even after taxes it s not a huge amount
5500 is 66000€ per year. That's not low income anywhere..thats an average salary.
In fact, that's $97000 Cdn, which would be considered a very good salary in Canada!
How can I know if I am being charged the church tax?
Have a look on your payslip.
@@simplegermany thank you, this is my first month here and I’m somehow still confused on a few things 😅
@@simplegermany thank you, this is my first month here and I’m somehow still confused on a few things 😅 your videos have been great help by the way 🫶🏼
If I stoo having coffee in a caffe every day, and I always leave 5 euros no matter on the cost, I will save 1850ish euros a year 😂
