    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 2 года назад +2

      Hi KMass - the second shotgun is simply for redundancy purposes. One of the advantages of the MKE 600 is that you can use it with either phantom power or battery power (1 x AA battery), so we could have one running to our Sound Devices MixPre6 via XLR and one feeding a camera with the included XLR to 3.5 mm TRS adapter. Nice to have the option and a little back-up is always nice for peace of mind.

      @@creativegreatsvisuals not at all! The MKE 600 can be powered by either an AA battery or phantom power. If you’re using phantom power the Green LED will illuminate, otherwise you need to move the power switch to the “on” position to use battery power (LED will briefly flash red but won’t stay on unless you’re battery is dying - then it will illuminate red)

      Hi @JensEser - the LED can provide various info depending on how the microphone is being powered. If you're using Phantom Power, the LED will be green and the Battery On/Off switch has no functionality; if you're using battery power and switch the postion to "On", the LED will light up red for ~1s and then go off indicating up to 150h of operation, if the LED lights up red and stays lit, you have a low battery warning with 8h or less of remaining operating time, if the LED flashes red briefly and goes off, your battery is empty. For more info, please check out the manual, linked here: www.sennheiser.com/globalassets/digizuite/41097-en-mke600_manual_09_2022_en.pdf

      @robb.blumenreder Год назад +2

      Hi A7 - Sennheiser offers an adapter cable named the KA 600i (shown at 0:58) on the left in this video. This is a TRRS style adapter that enables you to connect to a headphone adapter like the Apple USB-C to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (~$9 USD). If you're not mounting the mic on top of the phone with a clamp or cage, I'd recommend picking up a standard XLR cable to keep the shotgun mic as close to your subject as possible; attach the XLR cable to the MKE 600 and then to the KA 600i adapter to go into the Apple USB-C 3.5mm jack adapter and you're good to go. I'd also suggest using some velcro as a strain relief so the cable isn't pulling down on the iPhone USB-C port since the cables have some weight to them... also, if you haven't checked out the Blackmagic Cam app, it's highly recommended for iOS!

      Hi Daniela - the Zoom F3 has (2) XLR inputs, so you just need to purchase a standard XLR audio cable from wherever you're buying the F3 - one end will plug into the MKE 600 and the other into the recorder. They come in various lengths, so be certain to get one that fits your application best.

    Thanks for the info! Would I see a noticeable decrease in quality if I plugged the MKE 600 directly into my Fuji XT3 using the 3.5mm adaptor (versus XLR a XLR recorder)? I film indoors, in a treated room, and am planning to place it on a boom pole above my head, just out of frame. (I prefer to avoid syncing my video/audio in post). Thank you.

    • @robb.blumenreder
      @robb.blumenreder 2 года назад +4

      The audio components on most cameras are a compromise based on their need to integrate into the camera body. The preamps are generally lower quality and noisy when compared to a dedicated audio recorder - you would absolutely notice a difference if you were to A:B the audio. Since most devices also have an audio output, your best bet is to use an external recorder for the MKE 600 and connect the output of the recorder to the camera. This makes syncing in post much easier since you’ll have a reference on the camera that matches the recorder.

      @@marcelbarlaw4865 didn't notice a difference too much as I was using the Zoom F2-BT 32-bit Float recorder on battery and the AE-9 32-bit at 96KHz on Phantom 48+. I just normalized the volume in Adobe Audition and it's good. Trying to make it sound "better" with tuning/equalizing/dessing/etc. makes it better for what you are hearing with but could be A lot worse in other things like speakers vs earbuds. Leaving everything the same made it sound really clear on an external speaker. I think all the dialog videos on RUclips are "scams" to get views but they can work great if you have totally a crappy sound recording setup and need to fix things to even it out.
