You're right; Barranquilla has the prettiest women in Colombia.
Barranquilla has a lot of people of middle eastern descent, there's really good middle eastern restaurants there
that's also true actually I noticed that too
Interesting you say that.Shakira is Lebanese descent she's from barranquillla.
Well done - you absorbed at lot in a short period of time. I've been to Barranquilla ~20 times and agree with virtually all your observations. Barranquilleras are the best - married my morenita and couldn't be happier!
Well, since its foundation Barranquilla has been a city far ahead from the others when it comes to development in Colombia. Basically because everything started there, the first seaport, the first airport, even the first 5 stars hotel in the country and so many other firsts here thanks to its location. For that very same reason you see a lot of different people when it comes to races/mixed races, there were italian, german, libanese, Chinese people who moved there during the good times that the city had in the past, and of course we had black people and native indigenous too.
It’s true that the city was kind of stuck in time for around 40 years, but it is now back on track.
As for the tourism, you’re right. Historically It has not been a place for that purpose, it has always been a business hub city, but I don’t think it’s reeeeally hidden hahaha, we host the second biggest carnival in the world and musically we’re very well known because of the cumbia which was born there and artists like Shakira, El Joe Arroyo and other vallenato singers. Additionally, not English friendly isn’t accurate, it’s the Colombian city with the highest levels of bilingualism. Aside from that, I really enjoyed your video and I’m glad you liked your stay in Barranquilla. 🫶🏻🤟🏻
And they do have good vallenato here.
I appreciate your comment. Very informative. I plan to visit there in maybe 5-6 months.
Barranquilla was never officially founded, it started as a scattered settlement near the river and was later declared city on April 17th, 1813.
Thanks for the video. I call it my second home. My fiance lives there and I visit frequently. I consider it a family city. Very low key. Not a lot of tourist are there from what I see. If you are thinking of buying real estate probably a great place to buy since they are still building up....the North side
WES WITH THE CONSISTENCY!
I like Barranquilla too. Go to Puerto Colombia if you can. Very nice place
I told you Barranquilla is a hidden gem. Please leave it alone!! Don't want it to turn into another Medellin
I don't think it will for a while, there's not enough nightlife or sexual tourism yet
Deja de promocionar la gentrificacion , el turismo es bienvenido pero no vengan a vivir por favor, nos afectan a todos.
Asi es y ya hay una colonia de extranjeros grandecita.

I went to Barranquilla a few years ago and hated it. It was hot, the "beach" had brown water and lots of trash, it was hard to get around and just couldn't find much of a reason to stay more than a two days.
There are so many other great places in Colombia do waste you time here unless you have a specific reason to be there.
Finally Wes! I was going to recommend you do Barranquilla. Thank you for this post!
I love that you say you’ve been enjoying Barranquilla a lot and then we see the basketball court in the background 🙌
I stayed in the North side by the Centro Comercial Buenavista and it's very beautiful and laid back.
El Caiman de Rio was my favorite hang out spot as well. Overall the food scene is great and I never gotten bored.
The South and el centro is def sketchy but overall the people are nice.
Barranquilleras are also hella beautiful!!
no lies told here
I was just there at the Caimán and Malecón last night. Big difference at night compared to morning and midday.
@@eddieonthegotravelI am visiting in December.
Where area would you suggest staying in Barranquilla?
@@JAYY_JAYY the north side
@@JAYY_JAYYdefinitely North
I was there for two weeks. The north is very very safe. Cops are all over the place and the locals up north wear a lot of jewelry believe it or not.
You been going extra hard and consistent with the upload videos lately. I’m loving it bro! 👏👏. Cheers to that 🍻. 📈
I loved every bit of Barranquilla. From alto prado to la pradera. I think about moving there actually.
Thanks! Alot for speaking about Barranquilla is a city with alot of potencial and people never speak about it! I was raised there but after highschool I left. Everytime I go back am happy to see the growth of my city! Hopefully more people like you come to our city! Anytime you need anything related to accommodation let me know.
I would be visiting Barranquilla in December.
My first time .
Where area would you suggest ?
The best city of Colombia
Sup Wes, glad you found your way to Barranquilla as it's my under-the-radar favorite spot to escape Northeast Winters. They surprisingly have a lot of healthy places to eat: Snack Fit, Fit Choice and Healthy Food Gourmet. It's hot as camel balls right now so Bogota weather and vibe is where I want to be now.
Hello Wes, I’m from Medellín, and I really love my city. I believe it has great things, and that’s why it is very appealing to tourists nowadays. However, I also feel very pleased when tourists discover that Colombia is not only the classical Bogotá, Medellín, Cali, and Cartagena.
Barranquilla, as you have seen, is a very underrated city that has seen great development in the very last years, just like Manizales. And just like those cities, there are more that are following the same steps.
Wes, I would personally recommend you to visit cities like Bucaramanga in the east, and Pasto in the west when you have the time. You will also be impressed because those cities seem to be following the same steps as Barranquilla. And I think it was about time for tourists to discover that Colombia has a lot to offer in terms of emerging cities.
Bucaramanga is a good city. Hidden gem
How is valledupar?
You hit this vid to the tea. I travel to Barranquilla every year, especially to Los carnavales. Everything you said in this vid is true. I love Barranquilla, really glad my family is from there being that I’m US born and raised. Great vid!
100% agree. Plus, Barranquilla is the only city with river (Rio Magdalena), swamp (Ciénega Mallorquín), and beach (yes, there's a beach called Puerto Mocho (under maintenance now, will be ready in 2024). But please, let's keep it as the "hidden gem." We don't want another Medellín...🤦
it's not going to happen for a while because you need to speak Spanish to really enjoy it.
@@WheresWes I am sure that You don't know that Bquilla has a huge billingual BPO industry and that she is the second city in colombia with more English speakers is just that maybe they were working while you were visiting the city !
@@WheresWessi, es preferible hablar un poco de español al menos
Barranquilla locals think that city is boring but I think it's a very authentic part of Colombia. Very different from Bogota and Medellin.
Yeah 100%, thats why i liked it
Once you leave Medellin and visit the other cities you start to realize how overrated medellin is. I get it, overall it is still the most liveable, but with how little tourists other places get you'd think it would be above and beyond better and it really isn't IMO. For my tastes it is too touristy.
agreed
When you consider the noise, traffic, congestion, etc., really not sure I'd consider it the most livable either. Ready to leave and try another city after 2-1/2 years here now.
Nice to see a fellow chinese in colombia, we're a rare species there haha. Have plans to be there end of the year and probably visiting here
Wes, you hit a Home Run with your analysis of Barranquilla.
My wife and her Family are from Barranquilla (married 15 years ago) and they say this summer the heat is definetly hotter. Also the Streets have been a little bit more worrisome and attributed supposedly to current President. Strong Middle Eastern presence surely adds to the delicious food in the Golden Door city. I am from Boston, so add Edgar Renteria of Sul de Barranquilla who was Boston Red Sox shortstop for short spell but had a long successful career. He was the driving force to build the new baseball stadium 5 years ago.
Great insight Wes. So many true statements that I’ve heard directly from Barranquilleros here in Miami. They are usually super laid back and chill people like most costeños. I love the parallel you drew between Barranquilla and Panama City too. I spent every summer from Kindergarten until senior year in Panama with family and it’s crazy to see how both cities have developed in the last 30 years. Been thinking about going to do some remote working from Barranquilla as the north side is modern, affordable and not touristy. Seems like a better place to stay focused. For work and for families, as you said.
Hey I am from there. But I va been living in miami for 31 years. Thinking about coming back. But I would like a remote job there. It's very fun to live there for sure.

Underrated city in colombia
First time I went to Barranquilla was around 2010/11. Pass by last year while headed to Santa Marta and the city has developed a lot since my first time especially as a Port City and with the free trade with the USA that when it really started to develop. Just to add the Caribbean Coast of Colombia they love to play Baseball. Barranquilla & the rest of Caribbean parts of Colombia has similar culture to the rest of the Caribbean Islands.
That’s what my friend’s Dominican-born gf told me, especially about the costeño dialect/accent.
@@eddieonthegotravel Yup sound like mixture of Puerto Rican/Cuban dialect/accent in my observation.
Edgar Renteria long career in MLB and All Star, MVP WS
The next time I am in Barranquilla, there is a tour of the neighborhood association below, which shows you much of the culture of Barranquilla, the romantic museum and on Instagram there is a young man who gives you a night tour of the Prado Viejo neighborhood with Paranormal stories

Have you been to Peru? As a person on the tall side I felt claustrophobic but they have great food. Barranquilla is my favorite city in Colombia and I totally get the Panama City vibes
I’m 6’2 and felt like a giant when I was in Peru. Everyone is short
What a nice video 🎉 thank you.
Good stuff. Previously, I’d only heard of Barranquilla for its Carnival. It’s always been buried behind Cartagena/Medellin/Bogota/Cali on the Colombia gringo trail destinations list.
Yeah I been buried for the same colombians. Cachacos they don't stand that barranquilla is a great city
Excellent video! Thank you for making and producing this one! It was very enjoyable and informative!
Soprendentemente, me ha gustado su explicación... claramente al norte es todo bello y bastante seguro y ya para el sur, mantén los 4 ojos abiertos. Igual el gran problema es el calor y el costo de vida.

I lived in Barranquilla for a year. I could probably live there forever if it wasnt for the freakin HEAT! 0_0
BRO AGREED. I want to come back in October when it's better but the heat is crazy
@@WheresWes October is still too humid. The best time to visit Barranquilla is from december to march when the city receives the trade winds from North so the weather gets a bit cooler and drier. Luckily this is also the best time to visit the city from a cultural/touristic perspective because of the four festivities: 1) Día de las velitas 2) Christmas 3) New year's eve and 4) Carnival... that really goes from the 1st of January to Ash Wednesday. Maybe if you come for Carnival you would change your opinion on how close-minded the city is.

Colombia is not a conservative country. Idk why people keep saying this. Lol Saudi Arabia is a conservative country. Colombia has legalized prostitution and a high single mother rate.
You've never dated Colombian women or been here if you think Colombia is not conservative. US/US/Aus is 10X more liberal than Colombia. 1st date sex vs 3rd date sex is a good rubric for country being liberal vs conservative (if you know how to close as a guy that is).
@@wanderingdoc5075 I’ve dated Colombia and have spent time in Colombian cities you’ve probably never been to. I’m speaking from experience. They are not conservative! They are very sexually open. I’ve smashed chicks there faster than the states…
The state is not conservative, but the society tends to be
@wanderingdoc5075 usa you don't even need a date anymore. Never thought I'd be mad at how easily available 🐈 is but I was wrong. They don't understand liberal until you get into open marriages, polyamprous relationships, 12 year old trannys, and everything else going in usa. These other countries are way more conservative, Saudi Arabia, etc is just conservative to the extreme end.
Hey Wes, always appreciate the content. What type of pants do the local men wear in Barranquilla? Jeans, slacks, linen pants, Kaki type pants?
I was in Barranquilla bout 6 months ago in March. It was still very hot.. my friend I made told me it gets hoter. year around heat.
I was in Colombia in Jan. I was impressed with Barranqilla , I preferred it to Cartagena . I also liked Pereira more than Medellin . B
I was there for some time and it’s beautiful. Rio caimán is a vibe. But definitely hot af be prepared to sweat and detox all your demons 😅
Hey West. Did you know that my cousins are fourth generation Chinese Colombian?Plus, I'm glad that you finally understand that there is good food in Colombia, and I'm actually making a video about it to respond to certain RUclipsrs and I am including you in it as well.there is a saying among Colombians that people from the interior do not know how to cook like the paisas and those from Bogotá.
Traveling to the Paisa region and complaining that all Colombian food is bad is like going to Ohio and saying that all North American food is bad when you never been to New York City or LA.
The worst offender is Bogota, LOL.
Bogotá has the best restaurants and bakeries. All you need is money 😂
Nice video, informative
great video thank you
Was just there a couple of months ago. Got used to the heat within 2 days.
i did not get used to it over 4 days

@Haraaami it loved it. Being from Florida the vibe and weather is pretty similar. My Gf lives there so I will be here pretty often.
Dude you're here now?! Awesome! Yeah, a polo is the worst shirt/fabric to wear. T-shirts are bad enough. lol And yeah my lack of acclimation to the humidity. I’m used to dry heat. The city of Los Llaneros. Great views and delicious food.
Villavicencio is fine, great weather, beautiful sunsets and no bugs. The city is clean with decent traffic. Only downtown is kinda sketchy. But I wondered what would I do on weekends other than hanging out at the primavera urbana Mall. Many places also only open at night.

yeah bro, I'd say average is like 5'5/ 5'6
Wes, praying for you and your well-being. The death threats were extremely out of order and left you with little option.
I say the following with the utmost love and understanding:
No one is without shortcomings however, everything you mentioned about your ex-wife is actually standard operating procedure in a devout Christian wife. You clearly didn't understand the full breadth of the faith. Telling your wife that you don't want to go to church some Sundays is akin to blasphemy. The Bible actually advises us to seek counsel from the elders in the congregation. That's standard too. As a husband devout in the faith, you by your own conviction would never want to go to bars or clubs. A model Christian wife would never have to compromise any time in worship because her husband would be right there with her anyways. As devout Christians, we really don't have close friendships or hang out much with people of the world. That's standard as well. While you're at home, waiting for wife to come back, you would be preparing the Bible study that you would share with your wife. Obeying God supersedes anything your spouse asks that is in opposition to God's commands.
All the best Wes.
sounds like you are making a dating video
Barranquilla is like a dirty Miami
Dude what happened to your wife?
There are way better looking chicks than Shakira in Barranquilla

There's no ciclovia. Rarely do you see anyone ever bike or any outdoor activities due to the heat. It's summer everyday. On average, locals tends to be more overweight compared to other cities in Colombia. Fitness and biking is not really a huge thing here. The city has a problem with severe flooding during the rainy seasons. Streets are in constant repairs. Other than that, the costenos foods, Aguila, baseball games, the Carnival... welcome to Barranquilla.
