The game loads faster than the PS5 even with DirectStorage DISABLED on a 3.5 GB/s Gen3 SSD when you remove the cache.pso file: twitter.com/compusemble/status/1701753698169291126?t=3JTRp6HJYnX5KuWAspTqMA&s=19
Deleting or renaming the cache.pso file in the game's installation directory will cause the game to suffer from shader compilation-related stutters, and additionally cause frame-pacing issues to become more severe when firing Burst/Blast Pistol towards certain metal objects, like Seekerpede/Scolo boss fights. Moreover, it does not make the two portal transitions in Bugtrax Bronze challenge at Zurkie's as instantaneous as PS5 version of the game, it merely makes those transitions slightly faster.
Conspiracy time. They put that in there to intentionally slow loading times. Sony really pushed how wonderful their landing system was and can't have it beat by pc.
@@I.C.Weiner Your conspiracy is wrong. The point of the cache.pso file is to remove or at last greatly limit compilation stutter. As for why it make load times suffer for a second or two extra compared to a PS5 it likely has to do with shaders being cached in the background so that you don't experience any lag which leads to under a second of extra load times per transition. That's just a guess though, I don't know for sure. With that said the cache.pso file does a lot more good than harm.
The compiled shaders should already be in AppData\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache, so if they are already compiled, deleting this file should have no negative effect. But if you update the game and/or drivers, or even change settings, it could require a compilation of new shaders, which could cause issues without this cache.pso file. Hopefully Nixxes can look into it and fix whatever issue this file is presenting for load times in the game.
This is the file that tells the graphics driver what shaders to compile. upon starting the game for the very first time, it will compile shaders during logo/intro videos so DO NOT delete this file unless you started the game at least once and you've already made it to the main menu. Also if you've already deleted it, DO NOT update your graphics driver or change your CPU as that often results in flushing pre-compiled shaders and attempting to recompile them again.
@@GENERiCmood This is wrong, you do not need the file for first boot, I just wiped my entire cache system wide and it booted fine. These are just some precompiled shaders to ease first boots and some areas that load. Im gonna guess that's why it slows everything down, they're not GPU specific.
"Keep in mind that first you have to run the game with cache.pso file in the game folder, and then you will have compiled shaders in AppData\Local\NVIDIA\DXCache. Why are we in an age of no optimization and just throw in DLSS or make false statements about games call games complete? I mean, what is it, exactly? Is it the goofy purple-haired devs out there now? Great video. Finally this is getting some attention.
Yep. Thanks again for bring this to my attention!
Interesting, cache.pso seems to be their attempt to ship some shaders by default to avoid compile stutter. Weird that it causes slowdown.

A 2 second difference isn't a huge deal, but this is very facinating nonetheless.
I do hope this is looked into more.
Is there any downside to deleting that file? What is that file supposed to do?

Just rename it with a single letter at the beggining. If you for some reason need it, restore it to its original name.

Tested on Steam Deck, and yeah, night and day difference in the first Multi-Portal Sequence.
What ssd being used?
It says it in the description.
"Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus-G SSD Gen4"
🤯 Sony purposely gimped the PC loading with a bug .pso file! My gawd, my gawd! 🤦🏾♂️
lol faster, will finally get that pesky stutter gone then
Now we need some mod to make this game fun.
No reason to play on a PS5.
At the time ,it was mandatory
So basically, it was just propaganda.
Shitstation 5
I'm betting Sony won't be releasing anymore pc titles..They're fighting for every dollar on the 5

All that work to get MAYBE a half second of faster load? PS5 is incredibly impressive.
yet it plays every third party game at 1080p upscaled to fake 4k and can't even hold a 60 framerate
"all that work" delete or rename a file 🤡

@@jaemiura5526Why do you care so much ? Just interested ?
1 second more faster, but stil ps5 version is the way to go
Not with the pay to play online bullshit that got a price hike lol
Maybe just rename it instead of deleting it? That way you can name it cahche.pso again when you update drivers, change CPUs etc for first boot
