All these French people getting mad about the bread, meanwhile I (an Indian-American) don’t care much about nitty gritties when people make Indian food because I’m just glad they like it enough to try 👍
Indians are pretty used to different tastes, variations, etc. We all have personal recipes and we don't give them separate names. For example, them having different names for hung yoghurt and greek yoghurt is the main problem why they care so bad about the recipe. Other examples are like petty things like crushed tomatoes vs blended tomatoes in a recipe that blends them anyways.
Depends, here in Australia I hear alot of indians complain that our butter chicken is not "real indian food" and Indian guy here also was told his butter chicken was not authentic because his mom used butter chicken packaged seasoning oml. Thank you for your open mindedness but all cultures have some annoying people, even my own.
Thank you for this recipe! Anytime I want to make a new bread, and try something new, I say "let me see if John has a recipe"....and you always do, and its always amazing!
I love when someone as experienced as you tries something new and shares it. Baking is an art, it is incredible that sweet recipes and bread recipes are so so different.
Made your French bread this morning, very good! When I make again, I will use 2 to 2 1/2 tsp of salt, could be just me, but I thought it needed a little more salt! Enjoy your videos and enjoy trying new recipes! TFS
Thank you John for being specific about the type of yeast! Most online bakers either don’t know or don’t bother to tell the difference and just use the term “dry yeast” to describe whatever they’re using. They almost never specifically tell you whether the recipe calls for instant or “not instant”…
I am quick to click when the word EASY is in the title. I barely make myself do the least amount of kitchen work possible, so I am attracted to non-fussy recipes. Thank you for those!
2:22 if you measure your flour onto a piece of parchment, it's easier to get it into your mixer and not onto the counter... Just fold/bend the paper into a cone/funnel and shake in a little flour at a time directly from the paper, no scoop necessary. 💖🌞🌵😷
Hi Preppy, I made this today for my new KitchenAid’s maiden voyage. Must admit at first it was a little daunting, but the bread came out amazingly. Thank you for posting this. Five stars⭐️
I happened to purchase my french bread pan in the used office supplies section of a local thrift shop. It was misclassified as a weird wire desk or pencil tray. The pan caught my keen eye for kitchen wares!
I baked this up yesterday and it was a wonderful recipe! Very easy to make. I had a french bread pan but never used it before and wanted to make some bread to go with gumbo... I think this will be a new go to recipe for lunches- to make small sandwiches for my boys. Thank you very much!!!
I made this to take to my son's for the 4th of July. It has the most delicious crispy crust! They all loved it! Next time I'll cut the dough into 4ths because my loaves were pretty big and took me longer to bake but this recipe is a keeper for sure. Thank you!

For those upset about authenticity, french bread is an American thing, it's not the same as a french baguette. This is a recipe for that, American French bread, NOT an authentic French baguette recipe.
So, Imade this recipe yesterday evening and it turned out so delicious and soft (made them with A.P.Flour)!😋 I had actually stuffed the baguettes with leftovers of a chicken and mushroom saute I had prepared for lunch, along with block cheese and refried beans, and it may sound discouraging to you but those boys were good af! The only thing that could have been better on my end is for a bit more color on the bread since they were on the pale side, other than that I highly recommend this bread recipe❤
I love this stuff. These comments are ridiculous. If it’s food, and it tastes good, I don’t care if it’s authentic. Truly authentic human cuisine is raw unseasoned meat, LOL! Thank you for the recipe, John :) P.S. I’ve made your artisan loaf a dozen times now. It’s my favorite bread recipe now because it’s so fast and simple and rewarding.
Agree. Most people aren’t trying to recreate an “authentic” 1700s/French Revolution bread recipe, including making a custom brick oven and growing your own home yeast on the windowsill. They just want something that is good for a minimum of labor.
Great video, thank you for the very detailed instructions! Can I cut this recipe in half? And if so, do I cut the yeast portion or leave that as is for half the recipe??
Another amazing recipe. I love your tutorials and I really enjoy watching you. And don't even get me started on the yellow bowl....all the cracks and chips, how simply charming!!! I love it. I go to garage sales to look for plates and bowls just like that. ❤

PRO TIP: Active Dry Yeast lasts for years if you store it in the freezer. I have some Organic Active Dry Yeast by Bioreal from January 31 2018 (the date stamped on the top of the box) that I'm still using. Also Parchment paper is a good replacement for oil to avoid things sticking to surfaces and as a more healthlful alternative to tin/aluminum foil --now that we know how harmful ingesting aluminum is.
Will give this one a try! Did some research though--King Arthur Flour recommends instant yeast for french bread. Will try both and see if there is any difference.
