Hey guys 👋 Just in case you didn’t know: there is colorism within the Black community in the United States (and many other countries where Europeans settled). Colorism is when people of a lighter skin tone are favored over those with dark skin. It dates back to slavery where the lighter slaves were “better” because they had white blood in them. I think that mindset is still prevalent in the Black community, especially with images in advertising or the media (movies/music videos). This song not only says Black is beautiful but SPECIFICALLY brown (melanin rich) skin. It’s like in some Asian countries where fair skin is preferred over tan skin.

Firstly, Beyonce made the song to celebrate the beauty of dark skin of all shades (Some black people have lighter skin than others). Media portrays light skin as beautiful causing some of us to grow up believing we are ugly. Secondly, not all black people are muscular, have long limbs and athletic. Thirdly, Thank you for the tribute to Chadwick Boseman. Wakana Forever!

I have to say I really appreciate how hard-working you guys are and the fact that you also appear to have great hearts is the icing on the cake! You two are so great at articulating your thoughts and feelings about the music beyond just reacting to the videos and I LOVE all of it. The research, choice of fonts, visuals, etc! "Gamsahabnida!"
