    Over 15 years ago, the materialization of German brand Propain Bicycles coincided with the release of their inaugural model, the Rage. A thoroughbred race bike since its inception, the Rage has undergone six iterations over the years, each sharing the same PRO10 suspension design. The latest Rage CF model was introduced in July 2021, after two years of development and feedback from Propain Factory Racing. With a new suspension layout, full carbon frame, mixed wheel compatibility, and updated geometry, Propain aimed to modernize and evolve its downhill platform to offer riders a versatile, robust, and capable race bike.

    Hmm.. Having a bike with the option to change the chainstay length from 445mm (obviously nimbler) to 460mm (obviously more compliant and also what the Propain UCI DH team rides) and NOT testing the long setting whilst complaining about the nervosity of the bike? In addition, a fork with bushing play that will of course cause arm fatigue and leave an even more nervous impression of the bike under high-frequency bumps. I've to admit that I’d love to see a test update on the Propain Rage… apart from this: Good job VitalMTB! As always.. 🙂

      Yeah that´s what i thought. After all a blown up fork is not representative to the whole bike. Maybe they switched the CS-Settings, but it did not change for the better. who knows. i would love to see some insights on this. what were the problem solving strategies. what was changed, what wasn´t. But all in all, i really loved this series of videos :)

    that's kind of weird. entirely possible that the whole issue was a combination of fork not working correctly and bearing/shock bushing issue through loose bolts or even damaged bearings. when the bike just does not feel right it's so hard to tell what the issue is, the speculations can be totally off.
    that being said, loose bearing bolts is a total no-go for me. reason for this is mostly production dimensions being off, so unpredictable stress is put on bearings and hardware. often times manufacturers will tell you you should have tightened the bolts, that is absolutely unacceptable. would be nice to hear how propain would handled the issue, I've seen an al tyee with a lost bolt and axle being pushed halfway off bearing before being noticed, happened on the trail :(

    Not sure if it is similar issue on the Rage, but I have a 2022 Propain Tyee and it took me some fiddling to get the front and rear to have a balanced feel. I attribute some of that to the really progressive 30% leverage curve. I have a 2023 RS SD Ultimate coil on it and really had to slow the rebound and stiffen up the fork a bit to make everything feel in snyc. But now that it is set up better, the bike is blowing me away. I was getting some arm pain one long runs using the stock bar, but since swapping to the OneUp Carbon and PNW XL loam grips, that is largely not an issue now. That stock chainguard on the Tyee is HARD plastic, so it causes some slapping noise. I put mastic tape over it and it helped a decent bit, not sure if there is a similar problem on the Rage.

      @avySeal 2 года назад

      I also have the ‘22 Tyee, with the later version of the RS.U. Coil. It also took me some time to balance the fork & shock. I also have the OneUp bar on. Super smooth now. Yea, that chain guard can be annoying loud.

    I own one of these (29/27 XL), and I can relate to some of the opinions given by the testers, but definitely disagree with others: First, the bike is surprisingly VERY agile (for its long chainstay) and really feels like a trail bike with huge capabilites. Second, also true, it is loud because it amplifies every rattle through its huge downtube. The solution is to find those ratlles and velcro the hell out of them.
    Third, also true, some bolts have a tendency to loosen, and if that happens, the whole thing feels terrifying considering the amplification of the vibrations. I presume that a little busing play in the forks must be the reason why they thought the bike was unpredictable.
    This is the part I most disagree on, because when everything is torqued and well setup, the bike is sooo good... mine has FOX susp. and it feels light, very easy to corner, but keeps composure in the rough as a downhill bike should. And in the face of jumps you can feel exactly where in the travel you are, jumps are just easy.
    I honestly think if they would have tried the mullet, with a different fork, and maybe in the long chainstay setting, this test would have been very different. Kind of a cursed week for the vital boys... cheers for the work anyways and healing vibes to Dennis!

      @@bimfred I agree, a lot better riders than me are making them work just fine - especially when they're being paid to do so. @@ROSE-by5su I own a Propain and it is a. Awesome bike. The review didn’t make much sense like the bike was to small they could of got a reach adjust headset or a larger size smaller bike feel more playful and longer bike fell for stable and there main reason they didn’t like is it wasn’t stable at speed Thayer should of got a bigger bike to start with and they should have serviced all the component before the test its not Propain fault that rock shox messed up the fork most of the time they do and they need a service to feel optimal have a bad fork completely throws of the balance of the bike and destroys the ride quality. The thing about screw coming is a very easy fix lock right exists. In conclusion I think it would have been much more equitable if they got the right sized bike and the components where all at 100%. But if your opinion was completely change by one short review on the internet with no real structure or proper compassion point then I would that there are no bad reviews or Propain trail bike and are great.
