  • What's new in smart:comp 2? Let me walk you through all the brand new features, plus share one of many ways I'll be using smart:comp2 to create auto-mixing type scenarios. It's been 3 years since Sonible released an update to its smart:comp flagship compressor and smart:comp2 is feature-packed and definitely worth upgrading to.

    Great review. I wonder how the spectral side chaining compares to Soothe 2. Might have to give it a go.

    Would a use case for the spectral link be say buss compression with a lot going on, say a drum buss where you wanted to tame the snare without affecting the lower kick or hihat/tops ? Or maybe remove the bass frequencies so the compressor didn't make the compressor pump on the rest of the sub-mix ?

      Yeah, it's not something that I was able to test extensively, but it will be great for levelling to make the comp work less hard.

    Dan you should do gear demos for a sideline gig? I remember mixing that Slowdown song by Jessica Childress back in the indaba music days.

      Yes! Tricky song to mix back then, but more experience pays off. What gear did you have in mind?

      @@SPLMixing I believe you tube reviewers get gear for free to help boost sales of new products. I'd just keep doing what your doing and approach companies to demo their products for them. If they see you have influence on prospective buyers they will come to the party. You explain things well.

    Doing some spectral side-chain ducking (electric bass with kick sidechain) smart:comp seems a bit tighter than smart:comp 2 at the exact same settings, really has me confused! have you done a side by side test with side chain spectral ducking and seen different behavior like I have at the same settings? For some reason smart:comp 2 is taking a lot more high end out of my bass signal at the exact same settings I had in smart:comp. (I know i can filter the sidechain signal and change the spectral limits, this was just a side by side test with some old settings i was using in the original smart:comp)

    • @SPLMixing
      @SPLMixing  Год назад +2

      The AI has changed and been updated, so IMHO it would be unfair to assume the exact same settings would work the same way.

      @@SPLMixing has to be a different algorithm or something, it’s almost as if it perceives the side chain signal differently than before, picking up mids in the kick that were below the original smart:comp’s threshold to include in the spectral compression

    • @SPLMixing
      @SPLMixing  Год назад +1

      @@FooFighter77 Yeah, it's definitely not the same algorithm, that I know for sure.

      @@SPLMixing having a difficult time achieving the same side chain result that I prefer a bit more in smart:comp, just more surgical out of the gate in the original in my particular use case, new version taking out a bit more of my bass signal than I’m wanting, has me scratching my head a little tweaking settings and doing A/B comparisons to the old version
