Capolavoro ,una partitura intrisa di passione , un orchestrazione potente ,ci vogliono due interpreti affiatati e delle belle voci ,ma devo dire che loro due sono credibili .
Breathtakingly gorgeous! They are capable of making this undeservedly neglected opera a staple of the Italian repertoire. How I wish more people would give it a hearing. Critics be damned!
Oh, if only you had added the duet with Biancofiore just before this! That is one of my favorites in the entire opera, and emblematic of Francesca's character as a whole (even though it clearly harks back to Desdemona's prayer and final moments with Emilia, it's still very much in character.) Plus, the music is just exquisite. The scene in the second act where the maids are sewing and she is reading to them and fretting over her pet bird is also superbly done. Pity Zandonai tried to write huge crowd scenes -- he was at his best in writing intimate small-scale moments, either between Paolo and Francesca or Francesca and her sister or her serving-women.
