The aim9L can be flared reliably from rear aspect by most stuff that isn't a Tomcat, but you need to pull very hard together with the flaring, and flare alot.

Not that im complaining for my grind's sake, makes life easier, however it is kinda funny when people scream and complain that their flares dont work when they leave a hot trail with their burner on.
When your top tier is an f-104... Italy kinda suffers anyway, it's not the worst plane but for sure not the best top tier at all, the misiles are great wich kinda saves it, good stuff that you making a video on the forgotten Italy stuff, poor guys, great video as always Ethan, keep up the wonderfull quality content.

Maybe this video was made before the nerf, but the AIM-9L will chase a lit match. Extremely flare hungry now. In terms of performance it still has the best tracking and off-the-rail turn of any of the IR missiles save maybe the R-60M.
The aim 9 Ls and speed make it amazing for blitzing I would say it’s better then the viggen because of the amount of time it takes me to get used to trying to aim with no tracers again

F-104S and subsequent had ECM POD. This pod was so secret that it was not use in NATO exercises.
On Wikipedia all performances of war aircrafts are undermatches, for example: F-111 can reach Mach 1.45 at little more than sea level, not “only” Mach 1.2 ;
F-104S was supercruise capable.
Tornado airframe can supportable Mach 1.6 at little more than sea livel (reached during test of ej200 engine, the eurofighter engine, so probably olso eurofighter can reach that speed at the same altitude..).

I once got like a 7-8km kill with an aim9-L on a guy. I was going mach around 5km alt and he was probably at 6-7km alt. Took about 20-30 seconds for the missile to hit too lol

I have no idea of WT avial high tier. I dont own a single plane with a jet engine in it, yet "didnt ask" at 6:20 killed me
I always seem to be sparrowed by an f14, cant get these cool missile shots where nobody is paying attention. I just end up getting behind someone, launching a missile, it gets flared, i try to run and then they shoot a sparrow at me and I die...
Fun fact, that new top teir MIG has the same speed as the F-104
As far as my experience fighting Aspide-1A's, the total energy they have combined with having the highest max overload of any Fox-1 at 35G (Even though Aim-7F is more maneuverable in many scenarios because of it's 27 degrees of fin angle vs Aspide's 20.7 degrees) makes these missiles rather dangerous, but I wouldn't quite put them at match with Aim-7F. I feel that slot would probably go to the Super 530D carried my M2K. The 6.5 extra seconds of burn time makes those missiles practically impossible to drain of energy at range.
I feel the hierarchy for SARH missiles is as follows:
1. Aim-7F - High maneuverability paired with class-leading range and a very high quality seeker.
2. Super 530D - Very long range paired with VERY snappy reflexes and high fin deflection limits. If you're within 12km, it's notch or die
3. R-24R - Class-leading acceleration paired with 24G's overload, 25.2 degrees of fin angle, and a radar seeker that is very resistant to chaff.
4. Aspide-1A - Literally an E-2 sparrow with slightly more burn time, 10G's more overload, and a better seeker. This missile is a demon if you get close in.
5. Aim-7E-2/Skyflash/RB.71 - Pretty standard SARH missile. Nothing really to write home about but also nothing really to complain about other than the shorter legs.
Note: Just because a missile isn't at the top or close to the top does not mean they are not lethal. Any one of these shot in a head-on from within 6km is a 90% PK missile. Every SARH on this list is to be respected, but not feared.
Additional Note: It appears more and more given the potency of seeker heads and the radars they're tied to on these newer missiles that who has the best missile is more and more dependent on which missile has longer legs. Watch for long burn times or exceedingly high thrust motors as suggestive indicators.
@@perennialE I guess one of the reasons the 530D feels slow is because of the much lower thrust from the sustainer stage (considering it is rather heavy) paired with the very short but powerful booster stage (38KN for 2 seconds --> 15.25KN for 8 seconds. 10 in total). I feel the Aim-7F's have more potential down low for range since they have a motor better suited to it (26.94KN for 4.5 seconds --> 6.34KN for 11 seconds), but at medium to medium high altitudes, the 530D should equal out for ranges of ~16-20K (ballistic coefficient from the 530D's having a much higher end mass, making them more resistant to the effects of drag).
As for the 2 second arming time, I never really have a problem with missiles like that, because I don't like to use them at those kinds of super close ranges to begin with. Very risky shot as to whether the missile will even pull in before overshoot. I'd usually just spray a tad of guns and pop flares once or twice.

you actually CAN take both aspide and m61 with custom loadout it make the plane really good if you take m61 x2 aim9l and x2 aspide
