Heres reasons why Amy and Rouge is needed in Sonic movie 3
1. Rouge has a big role in SA2
2. Rouge is Knuckles' rival
3. The reason why Shadow changed his dark side of destruction is because of Amy's gentle kind words.
4. Maybe if Amy were to appear it's possible Metal Sonic can appear as well so that they can mix Sonic CD with the rest

I think Rouge is by far the most necessary. A huge part of this story needs to be searching for the Chaos Emeralds.
Amy by comparison has less of a reason to show up, a far harder justification to introduce her, and less of a need to fulfill a role anyone else could fill.
Shadow could be inspired by Sonic, a random human girl who reminds him of Maria, or even Rouge if they rewrite it a bit.

There are some instances where actors use their regular voice in live action acting and then an altered voice for voiceover. An example of the is Ryan Reynolds doing Deadpool and also voicing Juggernaut
Imagine the VA's for Amy, Rouge and Shadow posting small teaser videos of their characters' designs (sort of like those Cars 3 Character Trailers) with remixes of their Character themes from SA2 and other games in the Background!

Rouge was and is a huge part in the storyline of SA2 and no she wasn't just there for show.
Ya, if anything, they can easily replace Amy with anyone. But Rouge has a lot more story. Where she can easily fit in this movie.

If Amy isn't in Sonic 3 but Rouge is, then Sonic 4 better have Metal be the main villain, Sonic meets Amy and she gets kidnapped by Metal (bringing his character in for the first time), and then we see him work alongside Eggman (full fatsuit and all). If Jim Carrey actually does retire soon, I hope it's after a CD adaptation, not an SA2 one.
When Sonic 2 was getting ready, we didn’t know who was going to voice Tails and Knuckles until it was announced in August 2021 when Idris Elba posted it on Twitter and December 2021 when the first trailer came out and it turns out Colleen was going to return as Tails. I think that some of the casting is being kept under wraps for the third film until we get closer to the release date. Maybe when the first trailer is released, we’ll get to find out who will voice Shadow, and possibly Amy and Rouge!!!!
I really want to see Movie Amy Rose 🌹 in Sonic The Hedgehog Movie 3 no matter who the voice actor is as long I can see her in the film 🎥

As for Colleen she posted a picture of her at Paramount so it seems she is finally recording. As For Amy and Rouge I think they will both be in the movie but with just small parts because the movie needs to focus on Sonic and Shadow.
They are not going to add Amy or rouge if they are given small roles
Allow me to introduce you to a new mindset.
A scene can have multiple characters in it, including spectators, and characters that switch from one group to another to transfer information.
In other words, it does not always have to focus on just Sonic and Shadow in a scene.
An example is Sonic 2 where Tails was with Sonic the entire time until Hawaii where he was with Tom and Maddie briefly. Knuckles was with Robotnik almost the entire time except when he ran off to fight Sonic and later joined Sonic.
In Sonic 1 it was 1v1, Sonic vs Robotnik. In a way it was 2 v 2 if you count Tom and Stone although movie exclusives, probably to give Sonic and Robotnik someone to interact with. Cleverly, Tom is an extension to a community surrounding Sonic that Robotnik does have. Instead, he’s surrounded by machines.
In Sonic 2, they did a 2v2 to keep it simple and not have to juggle all the characters. You either focused on Sonic (and Tails) or Robotnik (and Knuckles) and briefly cut to Tom or Stone who make room for the actual characters.
Sonic 3 could be a 3v3. Move each trio as a unit. Sorta like how Sonic Heroes has 12 characters but plays like it’s 4 characters. Then Knuckles and Rouge can branch off briefly to fight or even truce into working together. Amy can probably move around a lot or even swap out with Tails or Knuckles at times. Having Rouge and Amy actually gives the characters more freedom to move around. Amy also acts as a parallel to Maria. It’s not necessarily but it fits together well enough that I would try to incorporate it if it were me just in terms of story structure, let alone referencing SA2.
The hard part is why they’re introduced. Tails monitored Sonic and was inspired. Rouge can catch wind of the Chaos Emeralds that were dispersed before Knuckles fixed the Master Emerald.
And Amy… I’m not sure so I’ll just make up a random fun concept that GUN also caught wind of the emeralds and found out how to travel to the other worlds via an old Gerald Robotnik file they discovered and chase Amy, who has an emerald. Amy escaped to Earth and runs into Sonic or is captured by later Sonic is imprisoned and rescues her when he escapes. Maybe Rouge is actually secretly spying on the whole situation with Amy and GUN and comes to Earth after hearing about the Master Emerald.
I’m making stuff up just to show it’s possible. lol

I'll say this, they are doing a WAAAAYYYY better job keeping the spoilers secret then the people who were making the modern Star Wars movies were.
Regardless of whether Amy and Rouge show up in the movie, I do want to share a thought I've had in my head since I first watched the second Sonic Movie. Amy and Rachel would ABSOLUTELY vibe!! Look at the scene where Rachel drives a golf cart into the arch, setting it on fire and tell that that is not a very Amy thing to do.
That would a funny duo lol, since amy does can have a temper but it’s only when something pisses her of severely like somoene juror oh her friends but she cool headed 90% of the time unlike racheal is who snarky and angry 24/7 it would be a funny dynamic 🤣

@@williamdreier5152 No they aren’t necessary the only integral characters are Sonic & Shadow. This is Sonic movie 3 not a literally retailing of SA2. It’s only taking elements from SA2. It’s inspired by SA2 the same way Avengers Civil War & Infinity War where inspired by there comic source material as in using the basic plot and borrowing a few characters.
I wonder how Amy & Rouge both will make an appearance in Sonic 3.

I think Rouge has a lot more weight in the story, she's a playable main character, that's a lot of content to work with. Amy's role is so small and only relevant to the story at the very end, anyone can replace her. I still would love to see both of them in the movie but I have a feeling we won't see neither of them.

I can see us getting Amy in the Movie before Rogue.
I believe that it is important to have more sonic characters in the movie. Especially amy and rouge. Because that’s the main point of the franchise. And them keeping things secret is a great idea because the movie is centered by a fanbase that would love to get any little bit of info out of something they love.
A big complaint that was very prominent in the past two movies is that the human characters aren’t as interesting as when you see sonic or knuckles on screen. Even eggman. That’s what people came for. I’ll relate this to a movie like thomas and the magic railroad where the main points that shined were when the anthropomorphic trains were on screen and not alec baldwin or other humans that were just boring. People came to see sonic. Not a human. And Amy & Rouge are perfect fits. Even if Amy’s story is tweaked, to be fair, Tails didn’t have as big of a reason to come to earth as knuckles but still served as a great member. Amy can do the same.

Sonic Boom, Sonic Frontiers, Origins PLUS, Superstars; the last decade she’s been really pushed as that fourth main member of the group and I think with how popular Peach was in the Mario movie; it would be a really great way to bring that female energy and not just have it rely on Maddie & Rachel. (Love them tho!)

I think if any of the previous voice actors were to make a cameo in the movie I would prefer Jaleel White. Something about the idea of featuring a cameo from one of the first people to have voiced Sonic sounds more appealing to longtime fans of the franchise. Like how the Super Mario Bros. Super Show theme song was featured in the Super Mario Bros. Movie, a real deep cut reference to the franchise’s history

I still don’t think Amy and Rouge are needed in this movie for the sake of Shadow. Movie Sonic and Knuckles are honestly much better at handling Shadow and convincing him to being good in the end then Amy.

Those female Sonic characters could be in it, because we all know that Paramount does listen to fans. They heard the criticism about Sonic 's first design while making the first movie and delayed that film to fix that, and they obviously also listened to the major fan demand for Live and learn to be in the third movie and it got confirmed that they agreed to make a deal with the Crush 40 lead singer to get the rights to that song so it will be in the Sonic 3 movie. Since they listened to the fans twice already, that makes it more likely that they may have also been listening to the amount of people who want Amy and Rouge to be in Sonic 3 while the plot was being written and are just keeping the answer of if they will or won't be in it, a secret until the first official trailer gets released to avoid any spoilers.

I would have loved to see a big cameo of having all the voices of Sonic in the USA make an appearance in the movie. That would be a moment worth watching on the big screen.

Ngl it would be so smart at the end of the knuckles show to put rouge saying some sort of flirty quote to knuckles showing shes up to no good. We dont have to see her but maybe we could see knuckles look over his shoulder confused and say something like "and who are you?" They only revealed the cast for (to be expected) some of the more minor roles in Sonic 3, so they are likely saving the bigger reveals for a later date like who's voicing Shadow, or maybe even Amy and Rouge.

As for deciphering the meaning behind Jimmy Marsden’s comment “all the new characters”, I think it’s definitely possible he could have been referring to some human characters when he said that. I also think it’s pretty possible he could have been referring to some Sonic characters. I’m sure that’s the vibe and immediate initial impression we all got, especially since he mentioned the “fans” just before and Shadow just after.
Also, it’s not like we ever got as much of a “new character” vibe and “excitement” from characters like Randall and so forth.
But would I like to see Amy & Rouge in Sonic 3? For the purpose of female inclusion, definitely. And perhaps to make the film more epic. Although I am already excited enough about Shadow 🦔🤩

If we were going to get either Amy or Rouge, we would’ve already got an official photograph of a stand in statue for either one of those anthropomorphic characters kind of like we did for Shadow back in November. Considering that we are nine months away from the movie, the only announced character besides Team Sonic is Shadow. Logically speaking, nine months before Sonic movie 2 came out so approximately July 2021 we already knew we were going to get Tails and Knuckles and they are the only primary anthropomorphic characters we got in the second film besides Sonic.
I think if they have a cameo of some of the voice actors, it would be live action, and only current voice actors. And I think it should be the kind of cameo where it's fit seamlessly into the movie, so for people who don't get the reference, it's not super jarring or immersion breaking. I'm thinking they could either have a cameo of Roger Craig Smith, Ben Schwartz, and Deven Mack, or a cameo with Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessy, and Idris Elba. It could just be something like all 3 of them hanging out in the background or something.

Shadow will want to kill tom, because in sonic 1, there was a scene where they said there was a sheriff guarding green hill for 50 years, and that's how long shadow was made ago. and Toms father killed Maria. and Shadow may want to kill tom for revenge.
Could Omega possibly be in it since he was created to protect shadow once he lost his memory and woke up again after fighting biolizard. Omega also joined up with shadow and rogue to form team dark
Who do you guys want in Sonic Movie 3 besides Shadow? Amy or Rouge? I personally want Amy because I think they have more potential to make a proper backstory for her like Knuckles in Sonic Movie 2. Rouge doesn’t really have a backstory in the games so they kinda have to make one up for her and that’s kinda risky because they barely have any source material for that and if they make up a backstory the fans aren’t gonna enjoy, they’re gonna get a lot of backlash. That’s just my opinion tho

When James says "characters" he's probably referring to the human actors too, since Maria is in it, Rockwell etc. Anyone saying it's more than that hasn't got a clue. James probably doesn't even KNOW all the characters in the movie.
I still think there's a possibility we could see Amy and/or Rouge or maybe even BOTH of them but like you said they're trying to keep everything about the movie TOP SECRET to avoid spoiling it
