The StG 44 may have been the doctrinal blueprint for something like the ak-47, but the actual design of the weapon has very little in common even though the silhouette happens to be very similar. The internal mechanisms are nothing alike.

Gotta correct something; the STG-44 was not the blueprint for the AK-47, it was the inspiration for the concept of an assault rifle, but the mechanics are very different. An STG-44's bolt and whatnot is kinda like an upside down M1 Garand bolt, the AK bolt system (I'm including the gas piston and all that in "system") is very different.
