Thanks to Ian for saying it how it is, if you have cash and want to go mad then go for it. If you want a capable gun for 4 weekends a year then buy budget. lots of snobbery in the airgun market but we all had humble beginnings with springers.
Sadly the snobbery are even worse in Sweden. Try to join a club with a pcp and your denied membership because it's exclusive clubs for the competition shooting with their special rifle you might see on television. Only way to join a club is to start your own. But Sweden have difficult laws when it comes to air rifles do it isn't that easy.
I actually have one of those stoegers, I can take rabbits out to 40 yards, then my old R10 would do the same, it was more consistent but for what I do (pest control as a living) you don't need to spend that kind of money
Picked up a new Kral NP02 and a three litre dive bottle for less than the price of a new high end springer. There's no reason to risk shooting quarry with a springer. Also at 12 foot pounds legal limit, I really can't see any value on spending big money unless you're target shooting.
What are you on about, 'There's no reason to risk shooting quarry with a springer' that's complete nonsense, i outshoot many people with cheap PCP,s i sold my last PCP about 25 years ago and shoot an AA TX200, no need to find a source of air.
What be a good test is to get a load of people that only just getting in to shooting and don't know price of guns and makes. Put a cheap one as a high price tag and the other low and see who can tell . I bet most pick the expensive one as it makes them feel more better shooting something expensive. Its more mind than use if that makes sense.
Thanks, David. It does make sense. I remember one gun distributor telling me he doesn't do 'try before you buy' days, because the customer 'doesn't miss in the shop'. / Charlie
Just discovered today that RUclips unsubscribed me from your channel at some point. I'd started wondering why I hadn't seen a video from you in a long while.
You said the Stoeger was a Chinese gun. The barrells are made in Italy and they are assembled in Turkey, and they also have manufacturers in the USA... Seen nothing to suggest China ???? My xm1 embarrassed alot of top end rifles at the shooting range, the gun is only as good as the shooter. More expensive doesn't mean better by any stretch of the imagination.
Myself have a few airguns also shotguns and rifles, but my mate have bought a few PCP’S and they are really accurate and will kill rabbits and all small pest species as good as anything also he had the HW100 which is quite a heavy rifle but and better quality built but these cheaper PCP’s are just a good and will do the same job, I have put pellet on pellet at the range of around 30 meters so you won’t get better than that also another mate got a Daystate and they are just as accurate as that even for a lot less money… Myself got a few expensive guns but you can’t go wrong for the money with these cheaper ones also you have your faults with them but they come guaranteed but saying that the more expensive ones have also come with their factory faults.
I have shot pigeons rats rabbits crows jackdows gray tree rats with a sub 12ftlbs rifle and the price just less then a £100 yes it can be done and I have as much fun as the man with his £300 rifle ready for the shock it was my very first Hw35 and it might be less then a £100 not heavy to carry there for a game bag rabbits and pigeons
HW35 will set you back about £355, and it's an heavy gun much heavier than most PCPs, though it is a capable hunting gun, there are much better lighter springers out there, i brought my first HW35 in the early 1970s.
Been an owner of many air guns from the age of 16 all the way to 20 and I can say if your looking for a solid pcp that’s mid range/low range price wise I got mine for 400 odd quid the kral puncher breaker
@Fieldsports Channel Hi Charlie, earlier in the year you were asking for evidence of Corvid predation. (I haven't managed to get footage as I live in rural Lincolnshire and we have a community tree🤣) I am in Lublin Poland at the moment and after two weeks in the city (there's lots of mature trees 4-5 stories tall and good habitat in parks and allotments) the only birds I have seen have been Magpies, Crows, Jackdaws and Feral Pigeons. My mother in law lives here and says they used to wake up to a dawn chorus of songbirds, this morning it was like something Hitchcock directed. Outside the flat there must have been 6-8 magpies and 50+ carrion crows/jackdaws squabbling with each other. My wife is planning to write to the council to suggest a cull and putting up bird boxes for songbirds. If you want to find irrefutable evidence, here might be a good place to start. I have never seen so many Corvids and so wiped out a songbird population where there is good habitat and ready food sources. This is all down to top heavy predation that has not been controlled by shooting. Ironic really as the balconies on the flats are ideal shooting positions 3 floors up in such a densely populated area. Hope this is useful.
complete newbie here I would like to get one for the garden A few questions: Do I need a licence? How do you recharge it, can you buy full cylinders to recharge and then take them somewhere to recharge or can you buy a compressor ? Would you recommend a spring one or a pcp ?
Got a few old air guns all still working fine bsa webley still all in fine condition WE have a old rellum taurus in work for the for pest control I took it in to work in the late 90s gets left outside now and again but it still deals with the rats fine it doesn't even get cleaned😮 iron sights still as good as iron sights can be. Just thinking now I might bring it home give it a good clean and service
I've got a bsa scorpion single-shot cost me about £300 about 12 years back. Shoots pellet on pellet. You dont have to spend a grand on a pcp for decent accuracy.
I HAVNT SEEN any price reductions ON pcp'S................I do see lots of price increases...Clearly he knows little about pcp's both sub 12's & FAC models have an enormous difference in power output, I fail to see his point that power outputs are similar........If so, why is there a need for an FAC before purchase..........TOSH
I have a hatsan at44 in .177 sub 12, and after finding the right pellet i can hit a 5p piece at 65 yards. I head shoot rabbits out to 60 yards but generally most of my shots are sub 40.
Yes, my old BSA Mercury(forty years old)still puts rabbits and Woodies in my freezer.👍👍😆
I had a webly and Scott vulcan, around the same time, a cracking gun, but also had a bsa meteor, wish I still had them
I had a bsa mercury and a tx200 back in the day
I sold my last PCP about 25 years ago and went back to springers, you only need one rifle, i have a AA TX200.

I agree
Some people have all the gear and no idea
Iv got a break barrel stoeger great. 22 I'm shooting targets at 45mtrs for under 250 quid. Sights are brilliant for a cheap gun.
I actually have one of those stoegers, I can take rabbits out to 40 yards, then my old R10 would do the same, it was more consistent but for what I do (pest control as a living) you don't need to spend that kind of money
They get a bad rap stoeger don't they? There not consistently accurate but they hit a target pretty good don't they?
Those xm1's are fantastic.

I’ve humanely shot many rabbits with a springer.
What risk is there?
12lbft is 12lbft.
The rabbit can’t tell the difference
The. Bullshit around break barrels if you put the time 5 p groups at 40 yards easily .
If your going to buy a “cheap” pcp go for the Gamo GX40
Or coyote or phox basically the same so is the boxer

I had no fault with the Hw100 i used to own. Superb rifle and no hold over or hold under out to 35 yards, in .177

Thanks. What a sad but fascinating story. According to the conservation industry, the birds are reaching a 'natural balance' 😁 - / Charlie
Yes finish is different but so is accuracy in the reviews I’ve seen of that stoeger

Would you recommend a spring one or a pcp ?

Nice.

Quietness ?, you get a full power 177 PCP they make hell of crack unless a moderator is fitted
You've gotta use what you have, my £80 Springer would happily kill a rabbit if I chose to do so, I don't hunt myself though I stick to cans 😂

The question wasn’t answered. Is a 12ftLb gun sufficient irrespective of how much it costs. Yes, maybe at 20 metres but it’s rare to get that close.
Well that depends on the quality of the gun, particularly the trigger. It's not so much the power, as more so accuracy
