For me this song is how there are two personalities within me fighting with each other. Master: the personality which tells me I am shit and no one gives a fuck about me because I am this big loser who has achieved nothing in life. Basically everything that symbolizes negativity and darkness Puppet : the real me who wants to break free of the chains bounding me from flying away.
Picture this: A little 6 year old girl shopping in a pink children store singing this song because her dad was a heavy metal lover. Yeah, that was me. God bless you dad. Thanks for introducing me to Metallica, SOAD, Guns N' Roses, and more
I’m about to rant about how much I love this song. Everything comes together so well and Metallica truly is telling a story through their lyricism. Even down to the instrumental. The song is obviously narrated by the substance, towards the user. The most remarkable part to me is the bridge before that last “Master, Master” Sounds to me as if the person has now reached an overdose and is falling into the pits of death with that last scream. The tone of the guitars riffs guides you through the user going through the steps of a near death experience and as the music slowly progresses back up to the basic tune of the song as if the user is now coming back to life now trying to live without the drug and now going through a phase of rage. “Master, Master where’s the dreams that I’ve been after? Master, Master you promised only lies …” It’s just very interesting and impressive to see just how Metallica produced this song. This is good music. It really portrays the demonization of drugs and just how they can control you. Well done
I'm a recovered heroin addict now 4 years.. I listened to this song in my misery, at the depths of the worst imaginable place a person could be.It was fuel to overcome.. and I have💯.
Yeah, your 20s is the only time you are capable of writing and recording good music. Once you hit 30, everything you do turns to shit and kids think you are corny and dated. Father Time, undefeated.
This is really a symphony. This song has always stood out amongst most. Judging by the likes, we're far from alone in seeing the beauty here. Fucking great.
I dug into the whole thing of Eddie playing this in stranger things season 4 and honestly I think I figured it out. During the riff at 5:40 if you slow down the clip you can see that Eddie plays a hard F sharp power cord. As well as when Eddie is shredding out you can sync the finger placements in the EXACT SAME order as the master of puppets solo. To further prove my point you don’t think Eddie would be listening to Europe no obviously like Anthrax and Metallica. And lastly we see Eddie hit the two hard strums just like in master of puppets case closed.

Possibly THEE greatest metal song ever, this song encompasses everything a metal song should be, heavy yet melodic, has cool guitar riffs and chords, an awesome chorus, guitar solo and is a subject matter that is deep, meaningful and philosophical, not just fluff like love or women, this is the gold standard metal song in my opinion
Songs like this and war pigs are proof people in the 80’s and 90’s were too lazy to listen to the lyrics (Edit): I mean the people that thought metal turned you into a satanist

I played this to my dog. . . . He is now cowering in the bottom of living room because the agressive booming sounds frightened him, but haven't changed him into other species by some supernatural means like some people claimed it would.
If this is your first time hearing this song, go listen to the entire 'Ride the Lightning' album. Hands down one of the greatest metal albums ever produced.
I actually think it would be better for new people to start with a little calmer songs like nothing else matters or sad but true then they'll probably get really into it. Never the less that's an amazing album!
Love how in the center of Thrash metal era, in the center of the greatest thrash metal album, in the center of the greatest thrash metal song, there is a sweet sweet desperate intense melodic solo that bring you in tears. Epicenter of intense feelings
@@blackvomit5094 it's thrash, as a beating hard and violent (that's what thrash metal is hard) and trash on the other hand means rubbish or garbage same like people confuse there-their-they're or hear-here or your-you're or were-where-we're, hope that clears things up a bit
Ironically enough, this song calmed down my pent up rage, when i search for something to help me in youtube and all these self help videos just made me angrier cuz all they're saying is to keep hiding your rage until you explode, so i thought that only loud and "angry" instruments could meet with the loudness in my head and it worked, listening to this song helped me just like when a sad song helps you better when you're sad, i'm really glad i found this song.
I don't understand why people have to hate on other genres of music. I like almost any genre. going from Melodic death metal to EDM... I don't see what hating on other peoples music accomplishes. It just makes people mad and causes arguments ...
I too like a wide variety of genres, but it's only human nature to argue about subjective things like musical preference. I don't mind this, it's what keeps humans sane; it's called freedom of speech and expression. However, I will agree some people exercise this freedom foolishly.
Sarunas Veselka I agree with expressing musically opinions; like "I don't like X band because..." but like "everyone who listens to X band is a faggot". That kind of stuff doesn't really make sense...
Josh Strutt That's what happens when uneducated people try to debate. They add social attacks (that usually don't make any sense, there's nothing wrong with being gay) without seeing the other side of the argument. Although, this could also be justifiable in certain situations i.e..: In my opinion anyone who thinks that Justin Bieber is better than, let's say, Metallica, they're pretty darn stupid. I will not see to their side of the argument because I know very well that it's terrible music.
Sarunas Veselka Hahahaha yeah, I can relate with you on that. Some music is just not good. If you're talentless and have to rely on auto tune then you should probably just stop making music.
+ProGamerZombieKiller he must be a hatter.. maybe a Drake and meek mill hatter ???? ... smh , it takes more than honesty and loyalty to hate heavy metal

It would have been awesome if Metallica made a video for this. I can imagine some kid spending the first two minutes trudging through a decrepit city trying to hook up with the drug dealer. Then, through the next verse, he is prepping his "breakfast on a mirror". Then at 3:30, the drug hits. Nothing but sweet memories, beautiful plans for the future, floating, flying, joy, happiness. But around 4:45, thing start to go wrong. The dream fades away to some dank cellar, at 5:20, the kid is in a stupor, being taken advantage of until 6:50 . . . then the kid is back looking for the dealer. After finding the dealer, the cops show and a chase ensues. The video ends with the kid in front of a rehab center, police bearing down, dealer encouraging escape. Fade to black (with laughter).

Haha. Hell yeah 😎
Obviously this song is their Master.
Lol 😂
The funny thing is that this song is about how drugs will kill you slowly, rule you
Drugs=Master
Drug addict= puppet
Is it really
For me this song is how there are two personalities within me fighting with each other.
Master: the personality which tells me I am shit and no one gives a fuck about me because I am this big loser who has achieved nothing in life. Basically everything that symbolizes negativity and darkness
Puppet : the real me who wants to break free of the chains bounding me from flying away.

Бля как же в России много бать металлистов
I’m about to rant about how much I love this song. Everything comes together so well and Metallica truly is telling a story through their lyricism. Even down to the instrumental.
The song is obviously narrated by the substance, towards the user. The most remarkable part to me is the bridge before that last “Master, Master”
Sounds to me as if the person has now reached an overdose and is falling into the pits of death with that last scream.
Master, Master you promised only lies …”
It’s just very interesting and impressive to see just how Metallica produced this song. This is good music. It really portrays the demonization of drugs and just how they can control you. Well done
My G your Rant was top tier perfection no wasted words at all, you capsulated what this Masterpiece means so eloquently
And in just two words this user, who is now an addict, broken and unable to live without it, begs for mercy with “Fix Me”
I think he was saying face me. Like you did all of this and now you hide and laugh.
I'm a recovered heroin addict now 4 years.. I listened to this song in my misery, at the depths of the worst imaginable place a person could be.It was fuel to overcome.. and I have💯.

The lyrics fit perfect too!❤️

Probably the greatest song ever created about the horrors of addiction, and released a long time ago.
And yet addiction nearly destroyed Metallica and James Hetfield some 16 years later. Singing about it is one thing...learning from it is another.

Sarunas Veselka I agree with expressing musically opinions; like "I don't like X band because..."
but like "everyone who listens to X band is a faggot".
